The room was clean, I guess it’d be hard to not clean a 12x12 room with barely any room. The hotel itself was nice but the area is horrible, I hope you know how to fight vagrants if you want you stay here because you’ll get harassed anywhere you walk around the downtown area. Staff was great once you’re inside and the lobby security is great for someone that can open a door. 0/10 chance I’ll stay here again for the sole purpose of the area is trashed, the areas “residents” are problematic. Keep your belongings tight and maybe take some personal defense classes if you wanna visit Oakland lol
Good location, close to lots of stuff in area.
Suoer cool casual hotel with bar and resteraunt, and extras. Staff was super amazing. Rooms were very clean.
My daughter and I stayed the night after the Jessie Murph concert. Great location!! Only a quick, straight 4 block walk to the venue, which was so nice to not have to get parking. Loved that you had to have a key to use the elevator…made me feel safe and secure.
Front desk staff were nice but I left my computer charger in the room and when I called lost and found, I got 0 help or return call.
Neighborhood is sketchy- homeless around. The rooms were not well thought out- they hired the wrong interior designer. First, Inlike the concept of hanging print photographs. But the print in at least two rooms I got was a photograph of smoked cigarettes. Yeah, something you want to see above your bed, so romantic- NOT. This is coming from a photographer who’s taught it. No closets, no suitcase stand, bathroom sink was so tiny I almost hit my head on mirror shelf, which didn’t make sense because it was big. Air conditioners non-modifiable in either room.
In concept- I wanted to like it. I’m going back to Berkeley this weekend but staying elsewhere.
Quirky place, had a good vibe. Rooms are great for a weekend stay but wouldn’t do much longer since they are small.
Average cleanliness. Be ready to pay additional $48 charge for self park over night parking in adjacent lot.
A lot of food to eat in the area. Be cautious at night walking alone. Overall safe and laid back. Just don’t bo
Interesting place. Art deco look. Very clean. Small room but comfortable. We would stay again.
It’s really good
The cleaning people and car service guys are the only nice people. If you check in later at night the service workers for check in are very short (morning people are fine). The Taco Bell across the street has a closed lobby that says a lot.
Front desk staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The tvs weren’t working when I got there and one of the elevators were down. When I left, both elevators were down. The room was very cute but the hallways were dimly lit and a little creepy, but overall a good budget option.
It was a great time, would recommend Moxy to anyone who is looking for a nice place a weekend getaway
Comfortable bed and nice to have blackout curtains. Slept well there.
No tables or counters in the room. The one table-like surface had an angle to it and everything would slide off. In the bathroom had to stack all my stuff on the toilet. Rooms extremely small. Location did not feel safe at all; vast homelessness and many destroyed vehicles on the block. Security guard was helpful.
I liked the decor and style, good vibe. I liked the beds and it was pretty quiet for a street view room. I didn't use it, but appreciated that there was a mini refrigerator in the room.
I thought the staff could be more professional and accommodating. For instance, I asked for early check-in on my res. notes, but when I got there nothing was ready. That's fine, but I asked her to call us when one was ready and she said she was giving out rooms first come, first served, so we had to stick around. Also, there is a bar right there in her shared space. We asked for a drink and she said it didn't open until later. However, there was a small snack area in the lobby where we noticed beers, grabbed one and said "can we sit at the bar and have this?" When she said yes, we asked for a glass and she handed me a plastic cup. A glass cup would have been nicer.
I really liked the person working the evening of 7/19/25, she was very helpful when I had issues with the shower in my room. I like this place, I've stayed here before, its hip, close to where I go for music, has a bar and the rooms are spotless. I'm giving them a "good" rating because of the points listed above.
I booked a Bayview room and I had a city blight view, there is no Bayview at this hotel it is a listing error, I requested an early check in 6 days before my arrival and never heard from the property, Upon check-in I was not given my two free drink tickets that has been included in every Moxy stay I have had previously, once I checked in my shower did not work at all, so I had to move rooms, my television did not get all the channels so I could not watch a sporting event Sunday morning that was part of my intended itinerary... other guest were compensated for this issue I was not, the bar closed early due to lack of personnel on Saturday and Sunday night, like 8:00 early... I only like to stay places with a bar so I can relax a bit outside of my room before I turn in for the night... in the one years' time since my last stay here the property looks a little tired and the common areas could use a good clean and a spruce up... I love Oakland but it's a challenging city and on my previous stays the Moxy offered a needed respite from the chaos and hustle of the city, not so much this time around.
Super fun and hip hotel. Great bar up front, lots of activities to do on site. Locked up, guarded parking. Great location. Close to so much.
