Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful. The 'Snug' room we booked was bigger than expected, very comfortable, well equipped and beautifully decorated. The food, served in a lovely spacious dining room, was a work of art and delicious. Love the hotel decor. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We will be back.
It was really, really hot and I had a lovely air-conditioned room at The King's Arms in Dorchester, so top marks just for that. It was a lovely space with a little desk and a shower that was incredibly refreshing.
The only downside was the view out of the window, but there isn't much that can be done about that.
The egg and mushrooms on toast that I had for breakfast were rather good as well.
The King's Arms is the hotel to stay at in Dorchester. A lovely period property, tastefully refurbished. As weather was really hot, we appreciated the air-con (rooms facing High St have air-con). Breakfast was great as was dinner. Staff helpful and friendly. Hotel is in great location for exploring this lovely town. Ample parking at rear for guests. Nice option to have outdoor area for drinks, or dining. Only downside there was this area could benefit from sweeping up of leaves, cleaning of paving and outdoor metal furniture was tired/chipped.
This is the first time we've stayed at the Kings Arms, but we'll certainly be back. We average around 15 hotel stays in England per year, and this is a little gem. The level of service was excellent. I was particularly impressed that the staff and manager went out of their way to find a particular bottle of wine we had requested but which was not listed. Lots to see and visit in the area and we certainly recommend Athelhampton House and Garden.
The hotel does what it says on the tin. Room was great. We asked for a quiet room at the back, which was great the first night. Second night was interrupted by a baker’s delivery van at 4.00 am. We took this up with reception the next morning. Breakfast was fabulous both days. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings. The dishes are of good gastro-pub quality and portions are generous. Wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. Overall, recommended and we would stay here again.
Inventive and delicious- beautifully presented
The room was a little warm - hard to open the window sufficiently but effort was made to install fans.
We had a wonderful time, the staff were welcoming, the room was spotless, the food was really good and we will definitely be back soon! Highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Dorchester.
Been coming here for 50 years +
Latter years have had that quirky fun feel. This visit was just brilliant-the room was great. Everything well thought out and I mean EVERYTHING( fresh milk in the fridge? When did you last get that??)
Nothing
Lovely old building in true character of an old English Town
Nothing
Everything perfect. V comfy bed. Fluffy towels. Fresh milk in the fridge ( Who does that? Not many!) Fab cuisine.
Comfortable bed, lovely toiletries
Bedroom backed on to the car park where there were very noisy local children playing and one screeched incessantly
The hotel is nice enough but, having asked for a quiet room, I was woken at 3 am by loud banging and scraping of furniture below my room which went on for an hour
Food was exceptional
The bedrooms were great, big , modern and very well appointed. Great attention to detail. A very pleasant surprise!
We arrived on Friday and stayed three nights. The room was excellent, clean and spacious. The hotel is right in the middle of Dorchester, with parking. We dined in the restaurant each night in addition to breakfast. The food is really great & suffering from an intolerance, I was catered for, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend the Kings Arms. Katie
Lovely original hotel in the old town of Dorchester, lived up to expectation and a easy restful start to exploring Thomas Hardy 's countrside.
