It was clean.
They over charged me from my booking.
We liked the river view.
We did not like the tub shower. The glass door only opened on one side making it awkward to turn on the water only when standing in the tub. Should have walk in showers at the level/price of hotel.
Parking is a pain if you opt for the street parking.
Staff at the roof top were not friendly, we left the roof top and ate downstairs and found our waitress to be exceptional.
Beautiful rooms, free car service with in mile limit, beautiful roof top restaurant.
Nothing
A most excellent stay, from easy and informed check in, to an incredibly clean and comfortable room. The bedding and pillows are excellent, electronics are all updated and working as expected. The bathroom layout is terrific with good privacy, a really unique shower situation, and incredible water pressure in the rainfall shower head!
The property is very well managed and definitely conveys an impression of luxury, much more boutique than you’d expect from a huge chain like Hyatt. The grounds are expansive with lots of outdoor seating and play areas, and with direct access to river walk, an enjoyable outdoor experience amongst the Savannah hotel options.
We booked as part of AMEX FHC program and the check-in representative was well versed in the program and explained all the options. Too many hotels require that I ask and then fail to understand the program. The Thompson staff is on top of all the details!
The only caveat is the .7 mi distance from hotel to main areas in historic Savannah. But you know this going in so just be prepared to be dropped by the hotel car (great service) or have a nice stroll.
Special note: this is a pet friendly hotel but we never once smelled pet odor. Cudos to cleaning staff! Also, the dog next door was barking regularly since the owners left him alone. One call to the desk and they invited the owner back to their room to manage their pet. Problem solved efficiently.
In all an exemplary stay and what you’d hope from all your hotel stays!
Nice Hotel, great location. Very clean and comfortable as we stay for one night, very close to downtown areas. Good choice.
Primary issue was with one staff member with an attitude at breakfast. The resturant was short-staffed and this staff member was not understanding/cooperative. However, the manager came to our rescue and made up for the rude/uncoperative staff member. Suggestion is to train the staff for customer service as when expects that at a high end, expensiv, hotel.
It is one of the nice hotels in the area... the restaurant downstairs has such weird times and days if you are there for work in say a Monday and depart on a Wednesday early morning... you do not get to take advantage of having it right there... you have to leave and go find some other place each day or go to the bar upstairs which is cute... just not something I could see doing every night week after week
Truly, one of the best hotel experiences of my life. Stellar accoutrements in the bathroom, with fabulous water pressure from the nicely-situated rainfall shower head, and lovely luxe shampoo/cond/body wash, followed by use of a reallllllllly good blowdryer (as a hairdresser of almost 50 years, that's saying a lot). The bed was comfy, there were enough outlets and usb ports to be helpful, and the decor for Christmas was beautiful. I'm glad I paid a little extra for the river view room - it was a lovey way to wake up, to be able to see the sunrise over the water. The room was uber quiet, with nary a sound overnight, and very good blackout curtains. Highly recommend!
I love the Thompson and have stayed there several times. I often go on long car trips, and make a point to stay at the Thompson because I enjoy the hotel so much. The showers are amazing. The rooms are beautiful. The view is really lovely.
I usually travel with my dog, and she is welcome at the hotel. There is a park right outside and along the river for walks.
This is my 2nd year in a row spending Christmas here. We are still on property enjoying. We love Savannah at Christmas and it has a special sentimental value to us. This year the hotel was different. It was super busy compared to last year and although the rooms are still clean (especially to be a pet friendly hotel), there is room for cleanliness improvement in the common areas. Also, as I noted in previous review, the hotel is very far away from all the "action", but if you can get the use of the house car it makes up for it. I also mentioned in my last review the busier it got the less friendly the house car driver became. This year he was worse. The same afternoon car driver still works here, and his personality was awful. I mean 0 hospitality. We used Uber the entire time after that 1st trip. We spend so much time planning for this trip every year and I cannot let 1 person ruin it. That being said. When choosing to stay here, you do need to account for the cost of Uber/Lyft. Parking around the hotel is cheap and abundant, so no need to valet. To sum the only negatives are the house car driver attitude and the distance of the hotel from everything. Hotel is nice and service in other areas was good. plentiful, so there’s really no need to valet.
Overall, the only negatives for us were the distance from everything and the consistently poor attitude of the house car driver. Otherwise, the hotel itself is nice, and service in other areas was good.
We stayed at The Thompson Hotel a few days before Christmas as a get away treat. Very pleased with staff, proximity to river and historic district, amenities and quality finishes. Alan was especially helpful chauffeuring us to dinner both nights, a great value to avoid giving up our on-street spot and avoid driving on crowded historic city streets. Ask at checkin for the hotel car direct number to arrange pick up/drop off each day (first come/first served).
Bar Julian was a highlight as well with unobstructed night time views of Savannah’s city lights. Felt like a ‘young & local’ crowd dolled up with kitschy 60’s era Christmas decor and ‘named’ Frosty’s for the holidays. Very cute! Tallest building within city limits, it was great to see ships sailing by from above.
The walk to the historic district was a nice healthy way to begin a day of sightseeing. We walked the entire way along the boardwalk in front of the hotel during the day and felt safe. I would take a cab or drive at night here or anywhere in Savannah.
Great getaway, European clientele for some reason, we will be back!
Spacious and organized. Comfortable, well-lit, and well decorated. Thermostat was working. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Water pressure and temperature were excellent. Nespresso machine was great and availability of decaf capsules was amazing.
Beautiful hotel with a great location to the riverwalk. Enjoyed gorgeous sunsets from the rooftop bar. Staff are helpful and friendly. Can't wait to come back!
The hotel is very nice, clean and quiet. It is within a short Uber ride of many sights to see in Savannah. The staff was wonderful, especially Alan, the courtesy van driver. He had us in stitches with laughter before the ride was over. There is no business center and no pantry store, but other than that, a fine place to stay.
Hotel was great! Beautiful, clean and the staff was very helpful! Having a house car was an added perk. The fitness center was great, too.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with fantastic atmosphere with rooftop and lobby bars. Gorgeous rooms with a great view. Clean, new vibe.
