I love this hotel! I stay in the Old Port frequently and this is my favorite. The rooms are great and the staff is even better. I am a diamond member (working on diamond reserve) and got upgraded this week. We were delighted!
I couldn't have been happier with our stay. Right away, the staff was so friendly in greeting us, I put a little note on the reservation that it was our anniversary and they did a bunch of things to make it special, free pastries in the room with a note. Breakfast at Salt Yard is incredible, not sure if it's as high on lists as it should be but if you stay you need to try it.
You won’t find a better stay in Portland on the Harbor than the Canopy. The location is ideal, the bed is very comfortable and the staff is excellent. We stayed one night there as we had flown in from Atlanta and on our way to Bar Harbor. As we were checking out Alex DiNapoli with Guest services went out of his way to be hospitable and gave us great advice about places to eat in Bar Harbor!
What great customer service, we were so blessed to meet him and receive such great guidance.

We just spent a wonderful 3 nights at this hotel. I honestly think the word “no” is not in their vocabulary. The hotel was immaculate. A wonderful rooftop bar called Luna. Great drinks and bartenders. A special shoutout to Ellis and Marley at the front desk as they were particularly accommodating. Can’t wait to return!!!!
Booked a premium water view king. Room was nice and quiet. From the 4th floor there was not much of a water view. May be better on the 5th or 6th floor. Sadly the view of the homeless setup across the street in a small park with one bench was more prominent than the water view. Not the hotel's fault but still not what we paid to look at. A room without a "water view" may be better. Breakfast restaurant / coffee shop was outstanding. Valet fee was charged for one night but removed when I called them after checkout. We didn't have a car. Nice hotel in a great location but Portland needs to work on a few things.
Very modern and well equipped property
Nothing, what's not to like
Decided to take a quick weekend getaway for Memorial Day weekend. Portland is a quick 2.5 hours from our town, so easy. Full disclosure, we booked Canopy to take advantage of a JetBlue tiles promotion. In hindsight, it was a FANTASTIC choice. Hotel felt brand new. Staff was lovely, welcoming friendly and very engaging. Even the poor valets running through the rain to fetch our cars!
Room was very comfortable. It was. HA room, with a sofa/daybed, desk, split bathroom, loads of storage, and a doorbell/light signal for the doorbell. Linens were awesome.
We only ate in the hotel restaurant once because there are so many great places in Old Port. We had breakfast on our departure day and it was delicious. I had a ham and cheese croissant that was the best I’ve had outside of France (yes, I do know how bougie and pretentious that sounds 😂)
The hotel location was great, very walkable to shops, restaurants, pubs, ferry terminal, water taxis, etc.
Parking is valet only, and it worked out to be cheaper than the hourly rate at the same lot if we had self parked. Even with tipping the very hard working valets.
I would not hesitate to stay here again, and will be recommending to friends/family who are heading to Portland.
Fantastic hotel! Can't say enough about each and every employee we had contact with - extremely professional, courteous and just plain nice. The location is perfect for hitting the wonderful restaurants of Portland as well as shopping and The Portland Museum of Art.
The rooftop bar had a great nice menu - both food and drinks. And so nice to have a coffee shop in the hotel!
And the room was clean and spacious and comfortable. Would return without a doubt!
Quarto super confortável, limpeza nota 10!
Awesome location right on the waterfront in Portland! Modern comfortable rooms, great rooftop bar!
Wonderful Stay at the Canopy by Hilton! From the very beginning, Madeline provided amazing customer service. Kind and resourceful, she covered any question we had, and was such a joy to be around. This hotel is comfortable, clean and has a great location in Old Port. We had a double queen room that we booked through FHR, and we used our $100 credit for our pet stay. The hotel restaurant has a wonderful breakfast, and we used our Hilton Food and Beverage Credits there. There's also a roof top bar, and lots of nice touches. Really enjoyed this stay, and Madeline really made it extra special.
We had such a wonderful time at our recent stay at the Canopy Hotel in Portland Maine. The staff went above and beyond in their service to us. Everything was thoughtful and excellent hospitality was shown throughout every part of our stay.
One thing that particularly stood out was the way the staff coordinated the delivery of balloons and candy for my husband’s birthday. Allison and Andrew offered to bring up the balloons to our room after I asked for them to accept the delivery at the front desk. They helped set up the timing and thoughtfully brought it up to the room during the time when my husband and I were out for lunch. They even propped up the candy on the balloon weight and focused on the presentation of the placement of the balloons. That small detail and thoughtfulness makes a big difference. I even was able to coordinate this through texting Allison and Andrew (I love the texting feature with the Canopy team), so it was a complete surprise when we got back to the room.
The valet service was excellent - the staff was always professional, prompt and friendly each time they parked or picked up the car.
The room cleaning staff was friendly and helpful and happily gave us extra coffee supplies when needed. They made up our room nicely every day.
Each Friday night at the Saltyard Lounge features a live musician. This Friday featured an acoustic guitar player - it was a great touch. The lounge is actually a place where you can enjoy relaxing, even with it being a hotel. We stayed there during a rainy afternoon and enjoyed wine and a cheese plate. The cheese-plate featured delicious cheeses, with thoughtful accompaniments, like the flat crackers, herb spiced nuts, fruit, honey, and jam.
Evening tastings were excellent - one day was a yummy mini whoopie pie; the next was a delicious brownie bite.
The breakfast at Salt yard Cafe is always delicious. The berry yogurt parfait and sourdough egg and cheese sandwich were some of our favorites. We enjoyed sitting at the window seats and relaxing with delicious breakfast in the morning.
Finally - the rooms are very comfortable. Again, it was very intentional in how everything is laid out. You can relax in the room as well. There are real mugs with the Nespresso machine, a nice chaise lounge with our room configuration, and a TV that is properly laid out. I love the separation between the bathroom and the bedroom.
All in all - excellent stay, wonderful staff, and a thoughtful hotel. When I think of the Canopy Hotel in Portland, I think of hospitality. Thank you all for an excellent stay - you all are awesome!
The room wasn't service and the shower leaks water underneath the door which should be correct
This was our first time at a Canopy Hotel but we are Hilton honor members and have stayed in many of their hotels. But the Canopy brand was different as was the staff.
First of all the rooms and the restaurants were all very attractive and comfortably sat people in groups or you had the choice of privacy particularly in the Salt Yard Cafe. The Luna rooftop bar was spectacular and the bartenders were creative, attentive and personable.
We enjoyed the shelves along side the sink in our bathroom and the sound barriers throughout the hotel really made a difference for us.
But in particular, it was the front office staff, Alec D., Maddie H and Alison D. who made our stay extremely special. As the Canopy mentions on their website, staff are 'enthusiasts'! We intended to stay just one night and checked in with Maddie. She gave us the 'tour' of the city on the map and also gave us recommendations of where to eat. She also allowed us to have a late check-out before we went to the Celtic Women show. She also gave my husband a bandage for a cut he had.
But it didn't stop there, the next day we came back for another night, saw Maddie as well but also Alec. There were only 2 rooms left, so Maddie held the room for us while my husband tried to find his password. That was unsuccessful so Maddie got Hilton on the phone and we were able to check in. She was on overtime at that point. Alec also stepped in and offered us a wine and beer on the house. He has a very laid, back, calm demeanor. Alec was the person who helped us with the bikes- adjusting them and giving us the code. Both Alec and Maddie gave us recommendations where to ride and we cruised along the promenade.
In short- it is really the staff that make a difference. They really cared and were enthusiastic about our choices.
Another mention, the bikes are a great idea. We did a lot of walking the first day so the bikes on the second day were a pleasure.
My request is to make sure the staff are recognized, paid fairly and enjoy their jobs.

The hotel is beautiful and in the perfect location, you can walk almost everywhere, lovely rooftop lounge/ restaurant and the views are amazing! The staff was exceptional as well, kudos to Maddie and Renee who helped us with our stay when a part of our trip changed, and this made our entire stay in Portland even better! The rooms are clean modern and you have everything you could need including filtered water that is also included. There was barely any noise from the outside as a bonus!
Thanks Again, we will be back soon!
