Pros:

The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. They go out of their way to make your stay fantastic. A special callout to Eveline (concierge), Nilla (Artesian) and sous chef Fauzy - who all treated us like royalty. But all the staff are so great. The room was very clean, and spacious (as hotel rooms go) and the facilities fantastic. This was a return visit to the Langham and it was like going to see old friends!!

Cons:

The lift arrangements are confusing ! But we got used to it !!!

Ultra-Luxury in the World’s Largest City
Pros:

Oh, the Langham—a brand at which I’d never even considered to stay until I visited Jakarta over spring break. Taking advantage of the unparalleled value for money, I booked a night here without hesitation, and I had a spectacular experience.

- Location: The hotel is in the SCBD, quite close to malls and high-rise offices. Pedestrian infrastructure is decent, although I’m dubious about wheelchair accessibility in the neighborhood—I would think most guests would hail a taxi or rideshare to escape the heat anyway. The traffic sure is no joke, but at least there’s some proximity to attractions and restaurants.

- Atmosphere: The Langham Jakarta certainly strives to make a statement, and it doesn’t miss. You need to see the gorgeous art and decor for yourself. It’s stunning. The ceilings are high, the furnishings are sleek, and the floors and walls scinitillate with pristineness. Guests enter into a grand ground-floor lobby, upon which they take a high-speed elevator to the sky lobby on the 62nd floor. The entire property is an urban oasis in every sense.

- Service: I only encountered stellar service from all members of staff, but I’d be amiss not to shout out the wonderful Hanson, who graciously pushed me around the hotel in a hotel wheelchair to show me all the amenities (and even some hidden corners here and there). Since I didn’t have my regular electric wheelchair with me in Indonesia, I relied heavily on staff to wheel me places, and Hanson was always so enthusiastic to do so. Thank you, Hanson and the entire team!

Moreover, the staff were very understanding when I told them I accidentally knocked over a glass clock resting on the bedside table. It shattered and fell back behind the table as I was trying to reach the outlet to plug in my devices. My oh my…first thing to happen after I walk into a 5-star hotel, huh?! Goodness! I’m thankful the staff acknowledged it was a mistake and said it would be okay.

- Room: Some real highlights include the mesmerizing views (often 50 floors or higher for most rooms), the all-marble bathroom, the bidet, and literally dozens of bottles of complimentary water on hand (impossible to go thirsty here!). My 53rd-floor quarters were spacious, comfy, and well-appointed, featuring lots of luxury touches and technology. Ironically there may have been some noise from the wind (being so high up!) and the building HVAC, but it wasn’t bothersome. (Certainly could NOT have been traffic from so far in the sky!) And I have to be mindful of the price point—what I got was still way above what I’d get in a Langham in the U.S. However, a few observations stood out to me:

- The marble in the bathroom did appear stained slightly in places, including in the cordoned-off toilet space. For quite a new-build hotel, that was surprising.
- The wood floor was scratched and stained in a few places. Still clean, but a sign of heavy use despite the place opening in 2021. That’s the risk of opting for wood rather than carpet.
- The fridge (or something in the closet opposite the bed) seemed to leak water on the morning of check-out. It wasn’t the bottles of water, so I don’t know what was creating the spill—but it did get somewhat extreme as I checked out.

- Amenities: The outdoor pool and relaxation areas on the 6th floor, as well as a wedding space, were all lovely. There are multiple restaurants on-site, many with acclaimed British phenom Chef Tom Aikens at the helm, and breakfast at Tom’s by Tom Aikens was indulgent and delicious. The hotel is currently renovating most of their ballrooms and meeting rooms as of March 2026, but Hanson did show them to me, and I’m confident they’ll look outstanding once they’re finished. There are amenities like the spa that I didn’t utilize, so I can’t remark on those, but do check out all the Langham has to offer. And above all, it goes without saying that the free WiFi throughout the property worked very well.

- Value: Sure there were minor issues with my room, but for the unbeatable value you receive at hotels like this in Indonesia, it feels wrong to complain. 150 USD for my one-night experience, plus breakfast included AND a modest late check-out? WOW!

Thanks to the team at this landmark oasis for making my stay such a special one.

Far Below Five-Star Service Standards
Pros:

We stayed at The Langham Jakarta for three nights, and unfortunately, our overall experience was far below the five-star luxury standard we expected from The Langham brand.

The issues started from the moment we arrived. As Club guests, we expected a smooth and private check-in experience at the Club Lounge. However, instead of being escorted directly to the Club Lounge, we were brought to the main reservation lobby on Level L. This made us feel as if we were not recognized or trusted as Club guests, which created a very uncomfortable first impression.

During check-in, we also asked the Club team about lunch at Alice, but the staff did not seem to know the restaurant’s opening hours. Later at Alice, when we asked for recommended or signature dishes, the team was unable to explain them properly. We were also only given one menu for two guests, which made the experience feel unprepared and far from a polished luxury dining standard.

The breakfast experience at Tom’s was also disappointing. We were seated at a table that was not ready and was only cleaned after we had already sat down. There was also a lack of table clearing after our meal, and the service felt inattentive. We eventually moved to the Club Lounge because the experience at Tom’s affected our mood. We also noticed other guests waiting for coffee for a long time.

On another morning, my wife had an unpleasant experience at the egg station due to an unfriendly response from the staff. This felt like the final addition to a series of service issues during our stay.

To be fair, the restaurant and f&b manager reached out, apologized sincerely, and offered a complimentary gesture to restore our confidence. We appreciate the apology and the gesture. However, our comfort and confidence during this stay had already been affected and could not simply be restored.

The property itself is beautiful, and it is clear that significant investment has been made into the building, interior, and facilities. However, luxury hospitality is not only about the physical property. It is about warmth, consistency, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Sadly, this was one of the most disappointing five-star hotel experiences we have had in Asia. While we appreciate the apology from the team, based on this stay, we do not feel confident returning in the future.
