The hotel is very pretty and the overall ambience is fantastic. The central amenities are excellent, with a restaurant, cool bar and club room with complimentary snacks and drinks. Also the shared facilities with the “Residence” (rooftop pool, fitness center and recreation spaces) really added to the value of our stay.
There were numerous quirks to our room that were a little bothersome. The bed and pillows were not comfortable for us. There was no upright seating (small table or desk) in our suite. The coffee cups were undersized so we had to manage the spillage every time we made a cup of coffee(we did love the Nespresso coffee maker which we use at home, just needed larger cups). Also, the deadbolt lock on the room door did not work(and had never worked based on the misalignment of the striker and the plate) which made my wife nervous. For a nightly rate of over $500, these issues stood out to us.
One of my favorite boutique hotels. I love the paradox of the old mansion with the upscale modernity of the Tower. This hotel also features one of my favorite bars. Small and quaint with a green-dominant color scheme that sets up a perfect bar mood. But, there's been a fair bit of staff turnover at the hotel, particularly the bar. On my last visit (December 2025) there was only one bartender, and he was often AWOL to the chagrin of many a patron (including me). I am told there is an ongoing talent search, so perhaps the issue will be remedied in the near future. Otherwise, the staff is generally very professional and service-oriented.
Very comfy stay overall. In the tower the whole building made random squeaking noises which were annoying but over all very nice hotel.
Staff were so friendly & accommodating. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

I love this hotel, and will give it another shot. They can be overwhelmed during wedding season. Maybe too many events happening at the same time in the Saturday I arrived- two weddings and an art exhibit/concert. Super lovely, but my room was over an hour and a half late getting ready; and I had to really plead to get in at that time. And things a pricey hotel. Everything else about this hotel is great, and usually spot on- maybe just caught them at a bad time.
Staff
A beautiful hotel with beautiful art and history! Lovely staff in every location I had to cross with someone. The breakfast was nice too!
Everything. Love the marriage of the historical mansion with the modern high rise. It's immaculate (clean) and the staff is very friendly. And it never seems crowded so it's intimate and cozy.
Nothing.
We stayed at the Colombe d'Or for our 25th anniversary, and we had booked the Van Gogh suite in the main mansion. What an amazing experience! The atmosphere is very European, and our room was so nicely decorated and comfy. The hotel staff had prepared two very special attentions, beautiful flowers and an exquisite bottle of Champagne. The swimming pool on the 10th floor terrace has an absolutely stunning view on Downtown. We also enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the main restaurant. Last but not least I must praise the staff kindness. All in all, it was the ideal place to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
very nice hotel
The bungalow was spacious and I felt very safe
I was told via phone and messaging through booking that the bungalow I reserved including a soaking tub and shower. When I arrived I noticed there was no tub. I notified the front desk and was told I’d receive no price adjustment for their communication mistake but could comp my breakfasts, which they did. The
Staff only seemed to believe me after I showed them the message conversation where their staff said I my bungalow would have a soaking tub and shower. The bungalow is not located on the property.
Beautiful hotel with great pool, bar and restaurant. Helpful staff and spacious rooms. Quaint and lovely.
From arrival at the fabulously restored Fondren Mansion and through our stay the staff were professional, pleasant, and attentive. Our tower king suite was sleekly elegant and well appointed. Amenities were delightful and linens luxurious. The location was ideal for our meanderings through nearby museums. A highlight for us was the impressive art throughout the property and, especially, the lovely sculpture garden. We are fans!
Don't stay in the bungalows. Only if you’re with a party or kids. The tower rooms are superb.
The staff at La Colombe d'Or are fantastic! Every guest is treated as if they are truly special. Many places say this - this hotel actually does this.
