Amphora's Garden

We were unfortunately very disappointed with our stay.

We specifically booked a larger room because we wanted to have more space and feel comfortable, but the condition of the room was far below what we expected from a 4-star hotel. The furniture was old, visibly worn, and stained. There were chips, scratches, and marks on the walls, and the balcony furniture had cigarette burns. The bathroom also showed signs of poor maintenance, including visible traces of mold.

The problem was not limited to the room. The hotel itself feels old and badly in need of renovation. The corridors and common areas look dated and neglected, and even the furniture in the restaurants was noticeably stained and worn.

Overall, there was a general lack of attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation throughout the property. For a hotel advertised as 4-star, we expected a completely different standard — both in terms of the room condition and the overall atmosphere.

Unfortunately, in its current state, this hotel is nowhere near what we would consider a genuine 4-star experience. The photos and rating create expectations that the actual condition of the property simply does not meet. We would not choose to stay here again unless a significant renovation is carried out.

Corridors were dirty, pool area in the Gardens section was tired and the pool side bar there was closed and the area was dirty and neglected. We had a large wrap around balcony but the weeds growing through the paving made a large section of it unusable. As the name suggests, Amphora Gardens, there are a lot of plants and gardens but they all need attention and maintenance. Breakfast was chaotic, people wandering around looking for tables, only one chef on the omelette and fresh egg stand which meant a 20 min wait. Breakfast was standard fare, quantity over quality.
Easy things to fix and would make it a great hotel.

large room but the kids (2 teenagers) were in a sofa bed in the lounger which was completely unsuitable. It was broken and screeched all night. We complained after the first night and Maintenance can to try to fix it, didn’t work and still kept us up all night. Second day they tried again - which was half better. They should not have been in a sofa bed that small and broken.

Het begint al bij de ontvangst: degenen die je helpen raffelen het af, geven je geen goed advies of welkom-gevoel en zijn allemaal niet netjes of überhaupt op dezelfde manier gekleed, ze staan daar gewoon in een tshirt en casual kleding (let wel: op zich maakt dat me niet uit maar wel als het onverzorgd is en ik bij een 5 sterren luxe hotel aankom).
Ze kijken je vervolgens gek aan als je vraagt of iemand je kan helpen om de koffers naar de kamer te brengen, aangezien we ook nog eens 2 liften moeten nemen en een stuk moeten lopen om naar de kamer te komen. Schijnt geen service te zijn, er zijn geen bell-boys maar als het moet komt er wel iemand (wat uiteindelijk niet is gebeurd).

Dan de kamers en look & feel van het hotel zelf: vooral de gangen en het hotel, dat heeft echt onderhoud nodig, een likje verf alleen al en ook in de kamers kunnen de gordijnen weleens worden gemaakt. Maar ook de lakens: ze voelden viezig aan en er zaten zelfs gaten in (zie foto’s). Niet oké. Je bent ook, door de kapotte gordijnen, voor 6 uur wakker want dan is het in de zomer gewoon al een klaarlichte dag in Kroatië.

De schoonmaak doet ook echt niet z’n best. Als je ze tegenkomt, staan ze op hun telefoon te scrollen. Ze doen met z’n vieren 1 kamer tegelijk, als ze überhaupt komen want we hebben ze maar 2 x gezien of nieuwe handdoeken gekregen van de 4 x dat ze geweest zouden moeten zijn. De vloer in de kamer voelt ook viezig aan als je er op blote voeten op loopt en je ziet gewoon op veel plekken dat er snel en grof is schoongemaakt maar echt schoon is het niet.

Tot slot het restaurant: de kwaliteit van het eten is echt van een laag niveau, de bediening heeft er echt geen zin in en wil het liefst zsm stoppen met werken, en er is zeer beperkte keuze in het aanbod. Echt het bare minimum - en nogmaals - in ogenschouw nemende dat het een 5-sterrenhotel pretendeert te zijn. Dat is dit gewoon echt niet.

El personal no es demasiado simpático , no hablan castellano

De kamer was verre van schoon, er waren dingen kapot. De jacuzzi was leeg en deed het niet.

Le canapé-lit: couchage indigne d’un 4 étoiles et pas en rapport avec le reste des prestations

Taxis into old town were sometimes hard to come by and expensive.

Lack of available sun beds due to towels being laid and residents not seen for hours.

De kamer was mooi groot maar de muren en gordijnen waren erg vies.

A full length mirror in the apartment would have been useful.
I think we would also have enjoyed a drink at the roof top bar after midnight if it had stayed open a little longer.
