Casa Grande Mountain Retreat is a heavenly and amazing place. Getting there from the South (much easier from the North) is an adventure. But worth it. The beauty of the location (waterfalls, lovely pool, flowers, all the space), combined with a helpful and kind staff, and very good food. It is really nice that our breakfasts arrive in a picnic basket. My one desire is that it stay not too accessible. But who am I to keep others away?
We loved the lush, rustic setting of Casa Grande Mountain Retreat and will definitely return when we are next in PR! This is a place to get away from the hustle and hassles of modern life. Open the window slats, disconnect your devices, and just relax to the sounds of coqui, tropical birds, and wind in the palms. They have renovated the reception and dining area of the main building, so it is a calm, well-appointed place to dine or have a coffee. Our meals were delicious and reflected the chef’s talent for balancing traditional Puerto Rican dishes with new approaches. Guests should understand the drive could be a challenge if you are not used to narrow, curvy roads, — especially after dark — but everyone seemed to drive cautiously. There are also some outdoor adventures nearby which we will check out next time.
Extremadamente satisfecho con ganas de volver.
Need to decompress? Connect with nature? Breathe clean, oxygenated air? Book & thank me later!
Our dinning experience wasn't to our liking. The food that was ordered tasted as if it was microwaved
The resort was beautiful and tranquil. The staff were humble and accommodating.
Usually a nice temperature area, but in this summer it was not so fresh and the ceiling fan was lazy. It was full and my wife needed a close accommodation but was not available and movement was not easy.
There are a few things you should know up front before you book here. 1) there is no AC... so if you're going in the dead of summer and you're sensitive to heat, think twice. 2) the restaurant has limited food choices, the menu doesn't really change, and it's *expensive*. For example, one night for 3 people we paid about $180 for 3 gyro sandwiches, 3 fruit juices, a beer and 2 desserts. The food was fine but is honestly an area for improvement. I don't mind paying money for good food, but we all wished there were more local choices and less "pasta bolognese"/chicken gyros. 3) if you are at all sensitive to rainforest noises like coqui or other frogs, this place isn't going to work for you because every night is a riot of noises almost all night long. We loved it, some might not. 4) its rustic. No mini fridge in the room, no options for lunch except what's on offer in the snack case (when we were there it was granola bars, yogurt, chia pudding, and rice with plantains). The rooms are clean and comfortable, but it is rustic. And like in many parts of PR, you can't flush your used TP.
The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, the pool is lovely, the grounds are meticulously kept. All of the staff is super friendly. The trails down to the river are a fun excursion, so bring shoes you can scramble across rocks in.
We loved Batey Adventure Tours about 25 mins away, the river kayaking adventure was wonderful and don't miss Mathias cafe next door to the Batey office. Roast chicken, alcapurrias, habichuelas, and other delicious food awaits. It's a favorite of locals.
Finally, the resort is LGBTQ friendly so they get 500 stars from us just for that.
The property is beautiful! Our stay was fantastic, but I was not aware that some.rooms do not have mountain view. This was a bit disappointing, especially at the price we paid and what we hoped for during our anniversary trip . I would recommend more clarity on the room category/description so guest know what they are booking. The staff and property grounds were fantastic though. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the beautiful hikes.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. When I arrived I was given a room right next to the pool, with a loud system right outside the door. I immediately requested a room change and they were very kind and gave me a much quieter spot. Definitely call before and request a room away from the pool. It might also be helpful to request a room that overlooks the mountains and not the garden. The garden side is basically a wall of greenery, it’s nice but there’s no view or direct sunlight. This was one of the few places where the pictures are 100% accurate.
My hotel room was cute, clean and comfortable. The restaurant has vegan options but is not vegan. This was a bit of a bummer because Im vegan and I ate most of my meals there. The menu was also the same everyday. So it became a bit “meh”.
I went solo and I was not prepared for how terrifying the drive there would be. I rented a car and followed the instructions they emailed the day before. I do wish they’d e-mail that much earlier and more than once, I’m a planner and had printed directions in case my gps didn’t work only to find out from that email that the gps would likely be wrong and I didn’t have access to a printer. It added a bit of anxiety. The area is all blind turns and narrow roads, so be prepared! During 1 excursion I ended up on a 1 lane dirt road on a cliffside, I almost started to cry 😭 BUT I made it and you (probably) will too:)
The pool was great and I got a massage that was lovely. Overall it was great!
There is no TV, no closet, no AC, no mini fridge. The lighting in the bathroom is non existent. Showering at night was difficult since there was terrible lighting and the bottles in the shower weren't labeled where I could see them. The grounds are pretty though. But I would not stay here again.
Amazing experience and even better at night.
Quiet, clean facilities. Loved the mountain surroundings, being in contact with Mother Nature. Friendly staff . Will go back.
Truly a magical place to come and get away from it all and sleep in nature. Somewhat of a tough drive but so worth it. Food options are mostly limited to the hotel restaurant so recommend bringing extra snacks. I'm definitely coming back.
Relaxing! And they are very accommodating!!
Beautiful place to stay in the jungle. The pool was lovely, the area was great to explore, the meals were very good, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
This hotel would not be the correct choice for most people. There is no air conditioning, TV, or frig, and it is very (!) remote. We took a Google recommended way and could have easily gotten stuck or dead (the hotel sent better instructions but I didn't read all of the details). The restaurant doesn't have so many choices and is mostly "healthy".
The jungle location, however, is so nice! We were so surprised that there were NO mosquitos, unlike the rest of PR. This is probably due to having no standing water and so many birds. (The birds, frogs, crickets made it tough for me to sleep well, but my wife loved it.) The bed is really comfortable, with cotton sheets. The super strong fan made it comfortable and even cold as the night got cooler; this higher, forested location makes AC not needed.
The food quality and patio dining were fantastic, also. An automatic tip of 18% is added, which I didn't notice, but the staff fixed this the next day. We also did the nice (and free) yoga class. The pool is very nice and we took a nice walk along the river adjacent.
Serenity Now! This place is a hidden gem nestled in Utuado. If you are looking to disconnect and just breathe in pure oxygen, night sounds and morning song birds this is the place. Private and clean. Eco friendly. Beautiful botanicals surrounding the trails and walkways. A must do if you need some R/R. There’s a restaurant on site food is reasonable and very delicious. Enjoy the few pics I’ve posted. I will be back Casa Grande! Thank you Emily and Crystal for the exceptional hospitality!
Loved it! Will return!
What a great place on earth. Very beautiful and whimsical. Great staff. Very accommodating. I really miss it in this moment.
