This comfortable and huge room was walking distance from all of downtown Durham and NCCU (a bit further but safe and pleasant walk). The staff were kind and responsive. Everything was well maintained and quite new.
Pay extra for parking in an empty parking lot with Street parking nearby. Why?
Hot water in the shower with pressure. Microwave in room. Frige in room. Big TV. Fast elevators.
Small pillows. One side of bed was like a boat and my partner woke with a sore back. Lighting in room upon entry hard to find. Only 1/2 the outlet at desk worked so hard to get everything charged up. Breakfast was not so great. I think they use a steam oven for everything. So best to stick with coffee (one urn was cold) bagel or a waffle but skip the steamed bacon.
The rooms were clean.
Clean when walked in and the rooms were large and clean
Staff was great
Breakfast was awful
The location was spot on. A couple minutes walk to DPAC and downtown. 5 stars!! The rooms were super clean and spacious. Nice and modern! Another 5 stars!! The staff was very nice but maybe ask the cleaning crew to not knock at 9am if you have an 11am check out. I was enjoying my little weekend vacation and sleeping sooo good on that comfy bed after working 10hr shifts every day since Thanksgiving. 4.9 stars
Soooo what i didn't like. It was supposed to be city view but unfortunately my room overlooked what I think was an old parking lot with a dumpster that some folks were digging in and drinking next to. One fella was passed out most of the day. Garbage was all over the road so that what we had to look at when the curtain was open but as the old saying goes you don't pick your neighbors. Also the breakfast was a 1 star. I'm a chef but I usually don't care what I eat as long as it's good. I'm definitely not no bougie kitchen critic and will slam a greasy ass gas station hot dog like nobody's business! That being said the tomato and feta quiche was like a rubber hockey puck. LITERALLY! I couldn't cut it with my knife and just had to try to tear a piece off with my teeth. That was a no go for me. Didn't even attempt to chew that and put it in my napkin. The bacon had the texture of super thin potato chips. I'm gonna assume this was precooked and packaged reheatable bacon but bacon dust can be good sometimes (i said sometimes). Not horrible but not not horrible if you know what I mean. And alas the boiled eggs. These are precooked bagged eggs and with all bagged eggs, they are overcooked and funky. Wash the brine off of them first so they don't taste bagged. That might help orrr just boli eggs and peel them. Its easy i promise. I am on a potato hiatus rn so i didn't try those but my nephew said "not hittin'", i'm gonna say they probably weren't "hittin'". My advice is stop using these made for convenience and way overpriced items on your breakfast line and let your cooks use their skills and fresh ingredients and make good simple food. It's actually cheaper, healthier and quality wise way better and your guests will thank you i promise. Oh and hot coffee would be nice too.
