Room was spacious, clean and hotel is well situated with good proximity to shops, cafes and museums.
Reception area is small and crowded and very messy which doesn’t give a good first impression for a 4 star hotel. They don’t have a secure, locked area for stored luggage.
Many rooms don’t have windows, which needs to be emphasised when making a booking. We booked a double room with windows but it took 3 attempts before we were given the room that we had booked.
Facilities are lacking: no convenient laundry service-guests are expected to find a laundry service outside of the hotel. The room safe didn’t reset after we followed staff instructions. Breakfast is included but the breakfast room is an unattractive dark and dingy space near the casino. The breakfast staff were offhand and inattentive and spent most of the time talking with each other and eating rather than attending the guests.
It’s not an eco friendly hotel as far as it’s still using individual soaps, shampoos etc.
We had a kitchenette in our room with a microwave and cooktop but no cups/mugs, crockery or cutlery. Two paper cups are provided for making coffee.
Leider unser schlechtestes Frühstück in Costa Rica.
Friendly, helpful staff. Firm, comfortable bed.
Dark lighting in room. Sound transfer into room from outside hallway/foyer area.
The staff were friendly.
My room had no windows and were up a flight of stairs with no elevator option
The proximity to various landmarks of San Jose
Small details of negligence
We stayed there twice -- before and after taking tours into the countryside. Price was right - centrally located for museums, but warning that the central city is pretty grim. Go the the right out the hotel and right again to get to pedestrian mall that is much more attractive than going the other way. Then head up toward the museums. The breakfast available at the hotel is excellent. We ate there three times. But the place is slammed for the first hour with people trying to eat before their scheduled tours. When we had an 8:30 tour, we were barely able to finish breakfast in time.
They'll give you a box lunch if you have to leave for a tour early, which we used once. Awful - processed meat and cheese on toasted bread, juice, apple, cookie.
We stayed there twice. The first time we had to carry our luggage up additional stairs to the mezzanine floor after getting off the elevator (extra rooms have been added on a "loft" level because the ceilings are so high). Those rooms don't have opening windows and it took a while to get the stale smell out. The next time we got a room with a balcony and opening window and no internal stairs. So make sure to book a room with a balcony. There's a motion light in the room entry that comes on when you use the toilet at night. The second time we stayed we figured out how to cover the sensor with an elastic sock.
Paid extra for room with windows, otherwise too dark.
Good breakfast.
Phone in room didn't work, nor WhatsApp, so difficult to contact reception without going down 4 floors.
.
Big room. Central location.
Free underground parking.
Shower pressure was coming on and off but nothing beyond that.
Very nice staff and hotel!
Why it’s always so difficult to find restaurants for the evening in San Josè? Nothing around the hotel despite a Kentaki Fried Chicken?
