Loved the hotel. Rooms full of character - in fact the whole hotel is packed with features and character. Very Clean and well equipped. Friendly and efficient staff. Easy parking. Breakfast was very good (glad to see porridge on the menu!), as was the Dinner - but some of the dishes were miniscule (Mackerel!). Service was excellent. The Chapel restaurant is a very impressive space.
Drinks were pricy and bar staff a little scarce. Dinner portions were on the small side. Some rooms were rendered and some natural stone - always try and get the rooms with stone walls as they have far more character - both are fine - one is finer than the other.
The location is fine and central if you plan to travel around, but sorry, Bodmin is not an attractive town and we can see nowhere you'd want to walk to from the hotel.

Wow.This is a stunning property. Such a sensitive and well thought out renovation, the building feels light and spacious and yet retains its character. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The room itself was so quirky, the high cell windows told you what this had been but it didn’t feel dark or claustrophobic. The bathroom has to be one of the next hotel bathrooms ever, large bath and large separate shower cubicle and wonderful underfloor heating.
Meets my criteria of luxury, large bath sheets and fresh milk in the in room fridge for tea.
The restaurant was excellent, fantastic dinner and great breakfast.
If you check out but want to leave your car parked for longer remember to tell the front desk so they can re register your car.

The property is exceptional as is the refurbishment of the old jail. I had visited it when it was derelict and now it is simply stunningly and exceptionally presented.
The rooms are simply beautiful and immaculately presented. The bed comfortable, the bathroom functional with under floor heating, classic and elegantly put together. The towels large, the body wash smelt beautiful. The room has a fragrance that seems to just be infused in its surroundings.
The breakfast is incredibly enjoyable and well put together. So much choice to on the buffet, fresh fruit, yoghurt and compote , delicious and exceptionally well presented. I drink oat milk in my coffee and nothing was too hard for the staff in the restaurant.

It all comes with a cost obviously and they certainly don’t miss you at the bar with drinks. But with that said you know that so if you don’t want to pay don’t go there. The staff at the bar were polite, helpful and good company. The receptionists were less so it has to be said. Friendly yes but able to arrange it sort things upon request ..not so. Your room comes with a note saying should you need it require any amenities (there is a list of those you may want) just ask. Well I did .. over 2 days it took to get them. It just wasn’t a priority to them and on the last time of asking it was ‘ I’ll see what I can do?’ I’d already asked 3 times. Not what I wanted to hear if I’m being honest for over £210 a night. I still never received a shower cap. It was a waterfall shower head and I have long hair. I don’t want it wet every time I shower. Simple request and one I’m sure could be fulfilled but wasn’t.

The whole ambience was amazing. The way the hotel had been renovated was unbelievable. It felt special

The breakfast and Dinner were outstanding , great freshly cooked food , fresh produce, and excellent service. How ever they did not have many, in fact most of the wine on their Menu. and only 2 of the 6 vodkas
The housekeeping left a lot to be desired, and the reception was below par. When I arrived we were greeted well, I had taken my husband and friend down for their birthdays . I had paid in full in advance in order for the cost not to be discussed in front of them, However the receptionist did not check and blurted out the cost by asking me to pay again. She then requested £250 deposit against potential damage to the room. I not only had to pay for one but 2 lots as I had two room - so £500. . The rooms were outstanding , however neither rooms had a spare toilet roll and one room only had half a roll. I asked if I could have some Earl Gray Tea and was told NO. There was no instructions on how to use the safe. The housekeeping on the second day did not only not replace the towels , but they did not straighten or hang them back up - leaving the damp towel on the bed. They did not replace any water in one room and only one bottle in the second room, the same with soft drinks and tea bag. Simply not acceptable for the cost of the room.
