The office personal was extremely sweet when we contacted her about our late arrival, and it had an adorable yard with seating, games, hammocks, and decorations!!!
I was highly upset to find the large open portion of the wall looking out into the woods has so much build up green pollen and dirty we were unable to see the beautiful view. We booked this rental specifically for that morning view which was completely disappointing to find that we could not see out of it. While the top lookout was dirty as well the real disappointment came from booking this rental instead of a hotel for the view.
The house/hotel is absolutely beautiful! Full of antiques and original wood, stained glass windows, fireplaces, a wrap around porch with rocking chairs, water (Elk River?) at the back of the property, this place exceeded my expectations. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. I booked a suite, which was about $200/night. It was well worth it. The walls were solid so I couldn't hear my neighbor if I even had one. It was very clean, aside from a used bar of soap in the shower. The bed was large and soft and incredibly comfortable. The decor was beautiful, and I loved the balcony overlooking the trees and water. I found myself hating to leave the next day, wishing I could stay an extra night. I slept through breakfast due to how comfortable the bed was, but it looked to be mostly portable with granola bars, oatmeal packets and such.
The only parking is on the street, and is rather limited. I did manage to snag a good spot but if I had stayed another night I don't know if that still would have been the case. Also, the curtain rod in the shower needs to be tightened down as it's about to fall out of the ceiling.
Friendliness of staff
Room smelled musty but was better after fan and opening windows for a bit.
The room was cute and the view of the balcony over the river was very pretty- loved hearing the water rushing by as we took a nap. Our room was well furnished with desk space, couch/chairs, etc. The main building was beautiful with old wood fixtures and decor. Customer service, and the inns involvement with the events we were in town for (themed cocktails, custom bottle caps) were much appreciated and great touches that made the stay unique and memorable . A highlight was the hideaway bar with a river view. A ghost tour was free for guests - which was interesting but we didn’t take part after a long day out and about. Bed was comfy and smelled so clean and crisp. We had a great walk down the town center.
Minor maintenance items need a little love. (Loose faucet, bathroom caulking)
Breakfast was a bit confusing- we had to figure out to sit and wait for service. hot items were mostly carbs which were good but not ideal as a hearty breakfast but it was good. If you have dietary Restrictions you may be fending for yourself.
The location along the River and the Glamping pod which was very comfortable, clean and relaxing.
Sadly the town of Sutton has little to offer except the River
Tent was wonderful, staff was welcoming, and the place was clean and quite

We liked the concept of the dome tent with the open view and the unique decor. It was well cleaned on the inside, had comfortable furnishings, and had nice bathroom facility. The two staff members that we met were also friendly.
The outside of the dome tent and deck areas were not well kept. There was a old toilet in a box sitting by the entrance that had been weathered. The outside of the dome windows had several areas that had not been cleaned in some time. The main problem was lack of adequate heat in the dome tent. Using both the wall unit and the additionally provided box heater didn't heat the area effectively. The price of $180 for the night was over priced even if the facility and heat provided would have been as expected.
I orginally did not get the room i ordered because it was not ready so was givin another room. The room was ok. Staff was friendly. It was ok.
The location and ambiance was good.
The bathroom was too dirty to take a shower in. I can overlook small things, no problem for a seasoned traveler who has been around the world, but when the bathtub is dirty to the point I need to clean the tub before bathing myself then the housekeeping is not doing very well. I was too tired to do their job for them and opted for rest instead. No complaints, no fuss.
Beautiful old facility. Location is beautiful by the river. Old brick road. Very quaint setting.
The grounds are unkempt. The lobby was in need of care and decoration. There was a pile of stuff sitting on a bench or chair when you first walk in. There was a giant wasp in the bathroom flying around the shower ... didn't see it until I was showering. There was a non English speaking gentleman at the desk when I went to check out could not understand me and I could not get a receipt. I think the place could be fabulous with good management.
We stayed in the bird song room. It was a separate building with a balcony that overlooked the elk river. We had to leave early so didn't have breakfast. Cafe had good pizza and beer selection.
We did not stay with you. We arrived Tuesday at 530 and there was no one at the desk. There were no instructions or directions given to where our room was supposed to be. We called the number twice and no one answered. We sent an email to this address and there was no response. My husband started knocking on doors that said employees only. He eventually found a guy, who had no idea what to do, so the guy called the house keeper, Emily. Emily told him where our room was so he showed us to the carriage house and we went up a bunch of rickety steps to look at the room. No thank you. She eventually showed up and acted like we were supposed to know where the room was, know there was more than one building, and know the key was in room. She suggested we just keep looking in rooms until we found one that was vacant. She said no one is at the desk Tuesday evenings (but according to the hours on the door the cafe was supposed to be open, but wasn’t). Why would I stay somewhere that allows unmonitored 24 hr entry to the premises, the phone isn’t answered, and the building I was supposed to stay in appears to be a fire trap?
I told Emily we were leaving and wanted a refund. She said she couldn’t do it and told me to call Booking.com. I called them and they said to talk to the property manager. This is what I told Emily and then all of the sudden she could issue a refund and appeared to take care of it. I’m still waiting for it, I do not believe she actually did it.
I’ve done plenty 0f late check ins at other locations. There is always an envelope with a map, the site/room number circled, and any necessary instructions. If I call the phone is always answered. This business is run terribly, and I will never recommend it.
Really nice glamping dome right on the river.
Rooms were beautiful and beds super comfortable! Loved that one of the Braxxie chairs is close by!
Stayed in one of the glamping tents. It was a cool experience. Could have been cleaner. It was
The deck was extremely nice. Parking was absolutely terrible. No designated parking. The dome was not clean thoroughly prior to getting there and the kitchenette was not restocked and the coffee pot was broken. Other than these things, it was a nice stay though. The deck redeem the whole thing.
We had absolutely no problem staying at Elk River except our stay wasn't long enough. The young lady who registered us in at 8pm was lovely and another young lady saw us at our car, in the rain, getting our luggage and stopped to help us carry it all to our room. Our Bird Song room was wonderful and clean, we enjoyed every minute except it was just too short.
We travel quite a bit from through West Virginia and Elk River will definitely be a stop along the way, making sure we stay a few days to really enjoy it.
Very beautiful and quiet area.
But be aware there are steep stairs to some rooms.
