Location and good breakfast
Quite a few things sadly. Unfriendly staff at reception (although the lady at reception was helpful). Smelly bedroom. Worst of all the extortionate cost of room - when I looked online the cost of booking direct with the hotel was about a third of the cost we were charged, but it was too late to cancel. We were walking the Camino and stayed in places costing less than a fifth of the price where we were made to feel a lot more welcome. The first room we were given stank of rotten eggs so we told staff at reception and went off to explore. They didn’t seem surprised or apologetic, but said they would send someone to look at it. When we returned to the room we discovered that someone had simply sprayed a huge amount of fragrance (presumably to mask the egg smell), but that was overpowering so we asked to change room. Fortunately the second room didn’t smell. We had wanted to use the spa, but were told we would be charged extra for using it (in spite of being charged almost €400 per night for a standard room!!!). And there was no turndown service on either evening so I had to use towelling dressing gown instead of towel to dry myself as towels were wet. Our stay at the hotel was supposed to be a treat to celebrate our anniversary, but in the end we couldn’t wait to leave because it was such an overpriced disappointment.
