We booked this hotel last minute, but was hopeful as this is a Marriot hotel. Unfortunately, we were surprised to find a general lack of concern or repair. Mold was evident in the hallway and in the hotel room. There’s dents in walls and the majority of lights on the exterior of the hotel were blinking.
There room itself seemed spacious for a NYC hotel, but this could be due to the lack of furniture - it essentially was a bed and desk. Additionally, the mold around the A/c vent and covering of the fire detector was concerning. We stayed only one night, but if we were to stay longer, I would have checked out sooner and booked at another hotel.
In my opinion, the hotel was way overpriced for what you get.
I stayed here for a week in July 2025 and would happily recommend this hotel. The room was large enough and comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful - and there was always someone on hand in Reception if needed. There are three terraces, including two with great views of the Manhattan skyline and offering both sunny and shady spots. On our last night, which was July 4th, staff organised a party on the terrace to watch fireworks and decorated the hotel to celebrate. Lockers for luggage were helpful as we could leave our suitcases and head into the city after checking out as we had a few hours spare before an evening flight. There were also supplies freely available if you needed fresh towels, more tea or coffee and so on.
Pre-arrival registration was easily done via the app with building and room access codes available the day before. A smartphone can also be used as a key.
The hotel is conveniently located a few minutes walk from two well-connected subway stations making it easy to get to different parts of the city. The neighbourhood itself is quiet, but felt safe when walking around.
If I return to NYC one day I’d happily stay here again.
An absolutely wonderful hotel experience. We didn't know quite what to expect on arrival, but we were delighted to find that our room was spacious, charming and clean. The hotel felt safe, and the employees were extremely friendly and helpful. The common areas, such as the 8th floor terrace and the basement floor, were very welcoming and impressive. The price was good for New York - not cheap - but good for New York. Location is great - just a few mins walk from Queensboro Plaza where a subway train can get you into Manhattan very quickly. There's a variety of different restaurants and shops in easy walking distance. Would totally recommend this hotel.
Two minor quibbles - firstly the elevator can be very slow to arrive, and secondly the water pressure in our shower was disappointing. No stars lost for these small issues, but if they were fixed, this would have been a six-star stay. Thank you!
Great reception staff. Very helpful with info on food, shops and travel.
We had a king size bedroom on floor 2 (209 I think)
Pretty good standard of cleaning all round. Very comfy bed and a great shower
Limited clothes space but still OK
Safe, coffee machine, kettle and fridge
The only downside to our room was the aircon which although very effective seemed to fill our room with the smell of cannabis!!! This is not the most pleasant of room smells
Overall a great base for a stay when visiting New York
10 minute walk to rail station
20 minutes rail into downtown manhattan
Use a credit/debit card for swiping on entry for rail travel
Great hotel - nice room, comfortable bed, super cool view from the roof top.
Only thing that can be improved is the elevator - it is extremely slow!
My bestie and I stayed here for the New Year holidays and we absolutely loved it!
A big thanks to the staff, who was very helpful, attentive and professional. The balcony area is forever in my heart with the view of the city 🌃
A huge convenience was having the metro some 10 mins away and a Starbucks :3
Very good
This property is clean, has a lovely lounge, and is close to public transport to Manhattan. The room was simple. The only drawback was the bed was a little hard for my taste.
Great place
Whilst a nice Sonder property, the service provided by Customer Service via the app will make me never book a Sonder again.
The entry code did not work on check in.
The WiFi did not work.
The screen fell off of the window from the apartment upstairs onto my terrace - pretty dangerous.
Worse than all they charged me 2 x $1000 charges to my credit card - for a stat that was paid in full three months before. I still have not had this refunded 3 days AFTER my stay.
The attitudes, nonchalance and tone of the advisors via the app is nothing short of disgusting.
While they have admitted I identified an error at their side, simply refused to escalate to correct the error at their side to resolve.
I still await $1000+ for a stay that didn’t even cost that much!
I would highly recommend staying away from Sonder, as I will now do having been a pretty frequent visitor in the past.
Great view of Manhattan. Close to the subway and not a lot of tourist in the neighborhood.
Clean, close to places, security was helpful
Rooms are small, noise travels through behind the door so no real privacy if working remote. Wouldn’t stay at this location again.
My room was not cleaned any day, my room code didnt work when I tried to enter and I had to go to the counter 3 times to tell them. They told me to go back and try again.
The location was good and the place was quiet.
Feedback on my stay
I Paid high price for 4 nights room with terrace
Positive: nice Manhatten views, friendly staff
Negative: all the rest. where shall I start
Cleaning/changing towels/bed linned. Only happened once during the stay. I was on 1st day informed, that it needed to be requested….which I then did. Still nothing happened. Unacceptable.
It’s a self service hotel. Expect no service. No in room telephones to call reception etc.
Staff: all though friendly, especially front desk were laisy. Mourning in front of guest and showing no interest. Also gave contradictive information . After 5pm, there were nobody in reception, during day up to 4-5 staff…but still they were doing nothing!
Hotel: ok’ish. Nothing special. Very std
Check-in. Requested same information several times. Lack of professionalism
Location: near metro. However area is no eye candy.
Had I paid half, i would have considered it reasonable. Prices are in general high in NYC, but for this price there are much better options
Nice and clean property. Good location and close to train station. Room had tea, coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. Only thing missing was a gym on the property.
I think the rooftop terrace area is great.
This is a hotel that is a safe place to stay for the night but not luxury by any means
I would stay again
Travis and the staff at the Sonders (THE DUTCH) are amazing. This is our third time staying here and we recommend this place to anyone. The views of Manhattan are amazing too. This place is quiet and near to everything you would like to do in NYC.
