Headed to Takayama or Hirayu? Break your trip at the Indigo Inuyama rather than in Nagoya or Gifu.
Pros:

The hotel food has large portions, and is above average in flavor. The real treat at the Inuyama Indigo is the view and the grounds. The grounds have many raked stone gardens. The architecture features wide covered spaces, a multistory glass wall facing Inuyama Castle, and great view of either Inyuama Castle or of the Kiso River from the hotel rooms. For walkers, the riverside path is adjacent to the hotel. Very nice onsen. Very supportive staff.

Cons:

I only comment for items that are average or below. Everything about this hotel is above average to superb.

Excellent hotel, great location
Pros:

Great room with plenty of room. Close to Castle, lots of free parking. Very clean Onsen.

Cons:

The parking/welcome man was very pushy/rude, in not allowing me to finish checking -I had to move the car twice and leave my wife to check in and wait with a lot of luggage.
I should add the check in woman was not happy with him as well.
The GYM had fancy equipment that most people could not use, just needed a flat bench and a treadmill that people were used to.
