Boutique Style with Noticeable Service Trade-Offs
Pros:

As someone who stays over 120 nights per year in hotels, I feel comfortable comparing experiences across a wide range of properties.
While the hotel is stylish and well located, the overall value did not meet expectations. At approximately 1,100.- for two nights, even during New Year’s Eve, the experience felt overpriced. The rooms are on the smaller side, and comfort did not fully match the rate.
Breakfast was acceptable but quite limited, with no variety across days and no alternative milk options. A simple request for a straw for our toddler was declined in a way that felt unnecessarily abrupt.
The pet cleaning fee of 150.- stood out as particularly high — higher than we’ve paid at many luxury hotels, where the service level is noticeably stronger.
In my experience, this stay reflected a common issue with some boutique hotels, where design and branding seem to come at the expense of service depth.
Overall, a pleasant concept, but the pricing and service level were misaligned during our stay.

Our stay at the Palmetto
Pros:

We loved the location and vibe of this hotel. We would have no complaints except it is located on a very busy street. There is a lot of road noise at night and early morning. We were placed in one of the balcony rooms in the front. Would recommend requesting a room not on the street and it would be a non-issue. There is hot chocolate, coffee, and water in the beautiful lobby and we enjoyed delicious cocktails at the bar. All of the staff were friendly and courteous. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for location with walkability to many of the main attractions.

Overpriced Stay at Budget Hotel
Pros:

We stayed here two years ago and really enjoyed ourselves; it definitely looked and felt like a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, while the rates are even higher, the standard is clearly lower. The carpets are stained in the hallways and our room is disgusting. Stained carpets, bathroom vent caked with dust and falling from the ceiling, missing pieces of floor trim, and the worst caulking I’ve ever seen in a shower. I stay at a Hyatt for work 50 nights a year and this is below even budget hotel standards. Customer service is equally bad evidenced by no valet available to take our car at checkin…last stay we were met curbside before we even got out of the car…this time we were directed to pull around the corner and park the car ourselves. Room 308; I’m happy to send you pictures.

Our daughter will be at CofC for the next 4 years, but this is the last $2000 you’ll get from us and we’ll no longer recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Must go to the bar!
Pros:

The Palmetto Bar is our favorite bar in town. The expresso martini is to die for! Forrest, is an extremely knowledgeable mixologist introduced us to premium cocktails. Can't wait to go back when we're in Charleston.

Charleston YES. Palmetto Hotel NO!
Pros:

The Palmetto Hotel did a bait and switch. They sold us one room promising a City View and Private Sitting Area, but instead gave us an Accessible room in the back of the hotel overlooking the dumpster! They then wanted to upcharge us to make it right!

Beautiful, comfortable, and convenient
Pros:

We had the best stay. The hotel is beautiful and smells so good! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was super comfortable and the bathroom is very spacious! The breakfast in the morning was delicious. We loved the location. Very close to some of Charleston’s best restaurants and we loved being so close to the waterfront boardwalk. We will definitely return.

Come to The Palmetto
Pros:

Forrest is the most incredible bartender I've ever experienced. He's more than someone who prepares drinks, he makes art and makes every single customer feel like they are living in a quality moment.

Highly recommend The Palmetto Charleston
Pros:

My daughter chose The Palmetto as her home base for family and friends for her wedding, it was a wonderful choice. The staff was friendly and helpful, The accommodations were wonderful. The lobby is inviting and relaxing. I spent time people watching through the street view windows and enjoying continental breakfast in the morning, sweet tea in the afternoon. The lobby bar is inviting and lively and the bartenders are attentive. The housekeeping staff was courteous and exemplified Charleston’s hospitality and were timely with all requests. They made the wedding week all it could be in so many ways! Amazing stay, I will be back!

The best hotel staff I've seen in my traveling career
Pros:

I traveled for a living for work and I can say without hesitation this is the best staff I've ever seen in any hotel. Genuinely friendly and caring and it is sincere. It's not that fake hospitality you get in some places and it's every single staff member I came across. The hotels beauty, cleanliness, and absolute perfect location make it a no brainer 5 star property but the people are second to none.
