This is not a 5-star hotel - a decent stay thanks to the kindness of the staff and the good location, but the marketing
Pros:

The staff truly did their best with what they had available and were consistently very kind, this is something I really want to highlight and thank them for. The location was also good and convenient.

Cons:

The main issue is that this property is not a true 5-star hotel, yet it is marketed and priced as something completely different from what it actually offers. From the website, it appears to have many facilities such as a spa and a gym, but none of these are available.

Our room had no real windows. The only openings faced the internal stairwell, which meant there was no proper air circulation, and if left open, people walking on the stairs could see directly inside. This is a very important detail that should be clearly disclosed.

Many of the so-called 5-star services felt superficial. For example, turndown service was offered, but in practice it only meant someone briefly entering to open the bed sheets, without refreshing the room or bathroom l, which is what proper turndown service should include. Concierge service was extremely basic.

The included breakfast was also extremely limited: essentially scrambled eggs or a croissant, while most items, even espresso, were charged separately. This is far from what one would expect at this category and price level.

We did not have a bad stay overall, and the room itself was nicely designed. However, I would strongly encourage the management and ownership to present the property more honestly. At present, this is a 4-star hotel rather than a true 5-star, especially considering the rates charged.

Stylish comfort in the heart of Polanco
Pros:

This is small boutique hotel hidden in a sidestreet in the opulant Polanco neighbourhood of Mexico City. The building is beautiful from the outside, and has an even more elegant interior. The team at the front desk where polite, and with our limited Spanish, they were very helpful in english.

The breakfast to in-house guests offers a limited yet substantial menu, and offers an variety of choice should you prefer a more subtstantial breakfast. Our room was tiny, and tucked away between steps and a open quartyard, but as soon as we were unpacked and settle we enjoyed the refined interior. The inclusion of the minibar is a nice touch, and lines, towels and bathroom ammenities are of high calibre.

Happy to return the next time I visit Mexico City

Cons:

Its not an Hotel Alest problem. I just dislike when hotels put an authorisation hold on your credit card. As I am travelling accross Peru, Colombia and Mexico, I have 5 different hotel that put an $18 000 authorisation which takes 5 working days to release back after check-out.

Best Boutique hotel in Mexico City.
Pros:

We were delighted that our decision to stay at The Alest Hotel turned out to be such a good one for our first time ever in Mexico City: the hotel itself is a small and elegant boutique hotel, with the best staff and best little restaurant, the 45. They treated us like royalty (which we're not), babied us when we needed it, and catered to our every request and need: with courtesy, kindness, and impeccable professionalism. Mexico City at its best. If ever we return, we'll reserve there again! Muchas gracias a todos!

Alest Hotel, Mexico City - a wonderful hotel.
Pros:

This is a superb hotel. It is situated a short walk from many museums, parks and restaurants in an area which feels very safe.
The rooms are spacious, modern and scrupulously clean, the beds and pillows are very comfortable and changed daily.
The hotel restaurant is exceptional - both for quality and value.
All the staff are pleasant, professional and enthusiastic. As seasoned travellers with over 30 years experience, this is one of the best hotels my wife and I have ever visited.

Horrible Experience w/ Management at Alest Hotel Polanco México City
Pros:

We were headed to Guadalajara and Mexico City coming up this Friday. We were going to Alest Hotel in Polanco. On February 22nd, the Cartel Leader El Mencho, was hunted down and assassinated in Guadalajara. The Travel Advisory shot up to Level 4 and advised not to travel to Mexico at that time. Due to not feeling safe at all, we cancelled our flights, restaurants, tours and another hotel. Our reservation was a non refundable at The Alest Hotel in Polanco, which we understood. We are very frequent travelers to Mexico and this has never happened before. Worried for our safety we cancelled the trip. EVERYONE ELSE we made reservations for were accommodating. We cancelled 2 1/2 weeks before our vacation. So it was not a last minute cancellation. The Alest Hotel in Polanco cis claiming that everything is fine in Mexico City now. We just didn’t feel safe as Americans traveling down to these areas and felt it was best to cancel all travel.

I had written this very professional email to Management at The Alest Hotel Polanco explaining our situation. Our response came back from the front desk manager. Unprofessional. We were not going to get charged until arrival. They said they would look into our situation. They IMMEDIATELY sent in to the credit card authorization fully knowing they had no intention of taking our situation into consideration.

To me this was a horrible business situation that we encountered. They had no intent, strung me along and just very unprofessional in dealing with.

We will go back to Mexico City another year. Unless you are absolutely 1000% certain you are going love The Alest Hotel Polanco just be buyer be aware. BTW, travel insurance would have not covered this situation as I looked into this well.

Even if I would have booked refundable reservation, I have zero confidence they would have provided a refund to me. They bounced me around to different people. When I explained this situation Luis spun my response inaccurately as well.

Luis,

Good evening. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think there may be a misunderstanding on why we are canceling. There is not any inconvenience on our part. This is a very and horrific situation going on in Mexico right now and we feel really bad for the folks down there.

With the shooting od El Mencho and the unrest in Mexico, the US State Department has issued a Security Alert: Level 4 – do not travel due to the violence and safety of US Citizens. We had every intention to visiting your wonderful city in two weeks. Right now, there is a Shelter in Place advised for US Citizens. This situation will not be resolved in two weeks.

Had this situation not happened today, we would be making the trip. We completely understand that we purchased a non-refundable reservation. If we were canceling because of a situation on our end, that would be our fault. However, because of Security Alert: Level 4, we are being told to not even go to Mexico. There are also several airlines not willing to fly down there at this time. This is a security issue and safety issue for my family.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning to U.S. citizens in certain parts of Mexico to shelter in place due to ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity.

Our airline allowed a full refund due to this horrific situation as well. We also were refunded for tours we had booked in Mexico City. Our ask is that you please understand the situation going on in Mexico and refund our payment. This is out of our control.

At some time in the future, we do want to visit Mexico City and would really like to stay at your hotel in the future.

I hope this makes sense and understand that this situation is NOT due to any inconvenience on our end. We must be aware of our safety when traveling outside to another country. We love Mexico for vacationing; it is just this is an unfortunate and sad situation right now. We are not the type of family that books vacations and just cancels. We just cancelled our whole trip to Mexico City.

Our deepest apologies that we must cancel this trip. We hope you all are safe as well..

Thank you for your understanding..

Fantastic stay !!
Pros:

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable
Blackout blinds helped sleeping at night and we had no noise from outside
A quiet downtown hotel Mexico City is a must for us
Staff from breakfast to security and reception were superb - shout out to Maribel who looked after us for breakfast and remembers our order every day
The only small issue was the television, not having many international channels (other than the news) and streaming into the TV with extremely challenging
The staff was very helpful in trying to help with those and we were able to watch YouTube in the room
A very small thing - would highly recommend the alest hotel

Absolute gem of a boutique hotel in Polanco
Pros:

Very well situated little boutique hotel in Polanco, just steps from Lincoln Park, shops and restaurants. Impeccably maintained, gorgeous interior and exterior spaces. The atmosphere is elegant and serene. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Great amenities too - LeLabo bath products and a free mini bar and snack selection that were restocked every day. There was some noise level on weekdays due to construction in the area, but not too bad.
We enjoyed the breakfast service that was included every morning. Sergio and Maribel took very good care of us. Pro tip; ask for a side of corn tortillas and salsa with you Mexican-style eggs and a little jam for your toast.
We appreciated Carla’s welcome to the hotel and her recommendation for a taco spot on the night we arrived.
We were also happy with Luis Angel’s help in taking the bicycles out for a spin. All of the reception staff were very friendly with their greetings as we came and went. Pro tip; they close the streets down for bikes, runners, roller bladders, etc. every Sunday. The route is just half a block from the hotel and it was one of the best experiences of our trip to CDMX. You can reserve the bicycles.
I also would like to mention that I was completely surprised and delighted to come in from a day out on my birthday to a decadent chocolate cake with a candle and balloons. Very nice touch.
We felt the value was excellent for the level of hospitality provided. This place is a gem and we look forward to a return visit.

Cons:

La verdad, nada. No tengo absolutamente nada negativo para señalar.
