A Perfect Balance of Luxury and Family—Beat Out Our Usual Stay at Mayakoba
Pros:

We recently spent 5 nights at Etéreo and it was a wonderful experience. It is rare to find a property that successfully combines true 5-star service with fantastic amenities for kids, but Etéreo nails it.

Etéreo vs. Banyan Tree Mayakoba
For the past three years, we have stayed at Banyan Tree Mayakoba, but this year we decided to try Kanai. While we love Banyan Tree, we found Etéreo (and Kanai in general) to be smaller, more intimate, and much easier to get around. At Etéreo, all rooms are "beach side," meaning the sand and pools are just a short stroll from the guest houses—no golf carts required. Banyan Tree wins on the private in-villa pools (which are huge), but the beach and main pools at Etéreo are superior and just can't be beat.

Room & Layout Tips
• Views: All rooms are ocean-facing, though be aware that first-floor rooms have less of a view of the sea due to the mangroves.
• Location: Request a room in House 4 or 5 for the easiest access to the main walkway.
• Plunge Pools: Most rooms have them. They aren't heated, but they stay pleasant as they are warmed by the sun throughout the day.

The Service
The service was flawless and personal. Everywhere we went—whether at the restaurants or the pool—the staff knew us by name. A special mention to Jerry, who welcomed us and conducted our check-in right in our room. I loved this detail; it was so much more relaxing than sitting in a lobby waiting for administrative tasks to be done behind a desk.

Our "Guía" (butler), Itzel, was also fantastic. She ensured everything was in order every step of the way, helped plan our itinerary, and even left a toy axolotl on our daughter’s bed on the final evening—a thoughtful touch that made her trip.

Smart Details
The resort gets the little things right. Instead of key cards, you are given simple, waterproof Mayan bracelets to wear, so you never have to worry about carrying (or losing) a key at the pool or beach. They also leave high-end water bottles in the room which you can use throughout your stay and keep as a souvenir.

The Facilities & Spa
The spa was the absolute highlight. It was, without hesitation, the best spa experience I have ever had. The facilities are incredible—specifically the included "cleanse" circuit (sauna, whirlpool, clay room, rain shower)—and the treatments themselves were beyond 5-stars. Do not miss this.

The pool situation is also excellent. The family pool is lively but never felt busy; it’s large enough to feel luxurious for adults rather than like a "water park." The adult pool is nearby but architecturally separated enough that you can find total peace there if you wish.

The beach is perfect for young children—smooth white sand, no dunes, and a very shallow, protected bay.

For Families
The Kids Club was marvelous. Our daughter actually requested to go there for "dinner and a movie" one evening instead of dining with us! A really nice touch is the "kids eat free" policy, which makes the resort feel much more welcoming than many other ultra-luxury properties.

The Dining
We ate every meal at the resort. The daily breakfast at Itzam was excellent, and the special "Abuela Dinner" in the Resol Garden was a standout—authentic, delicious, and exactly what we crave when in Mexico. The other menus lean a bit more towards high-end fusion; while the quality is high, we personally found ourselves enjoying the simpler, "home-cooked" style dishes the most.

Verdict
If you are looking for a place where you don’t have to compromise on luxury to bring your kids, this is it. We will definitely be back.

Exceptional stay!
Pros:

Truly wonderful experience all around. The service is outstanding from check in to check out. The guia (ours was Ommar) actually check in with you, your interactions are genuine, they are reliable and responsive. The rooms are gorgeous - specifically recommend the Ocean View with Plunge Pool. The setting among the mangroves is so unique and beautiful. The pools are outstanding and food all top class - especially the poolside menu and breakfast at Itzam. We will absolutely be back and are already telling friends! The snorkelling excursion was also wonderful - the reef is so healthy and it was very close to the resort. We saw lots of fish, turtles, and multiple sting rays!

Stunning setting , superb service, sea , sand and Spa
Pros:

We stayed at the Etereo Auberge for a pre Xmas break, I can honestly say this hotel is an absolute gem. The setting , rooms, food and service are all outstanding. Set in lush mangroves with incredible sea views, white sand, rooms that emulate subtle luxury, staff that are there for your every request, but friendly and service oriented. The food especially breakfast outstanding, with fresh quality unique dishes was one of the highlights. I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing getaway that will really leave you completely refreshed

Blown away
Pros:

We had a wonderful experience at Etereo. The resort is stunningly beautiful from the rooms to the pool to the beach. The biggest highlight was the service - outstanding. Every single staff member was welcoming, accommodating, and warm, which is the reason we stay often at Auberge hotels and resorts. The service was also consistently excellent, which is rare. We stay at luxury hotels and resorts often and expect great service but its not always this consistently amazing and high caliber.
We had an issue with our plunge pool and it was rectified in 20 minutes. My husband wanted firmer pillows - they found some and brought them quickly. My husband had a night that his stomach was off and our waiter offered off-menu items to try to help him feel better and checked in with him the next day to see how he was feeling. The staff knew us by name and we could tell they wanted to make our experience special. Very professional and lovely.
The beach is beautiful and well cared for - there was a team responsible for raking up seaweed. The pools were equally beautiful. There are 2 - one for families and one that is adults only.
The food was great. Each restaurant had daily specials and the waiters and waitresses made great recommendations.
We went to the spa, which we were skeptical about because we didn't want to burn 5 hours of our vacation but we were so glad we went. I had The Botanist which was a massage and body scrub and it was truly amazing. My husband had a deep tissue massage and said it was the best massage of his life and even wanted to go back the next day.
All-in-all we had a great experience and can't wait to come back!

A truly special hotel that immerses you in an authentic Mayan experience with world class hospitality
Pros:

A truly special hotel, designed to float above the mangrove forest, only steps away to a pristine and beautiful beach.
Watching the in-house Shaman conduct his nightly sunset ceremony on the beach from the plunge pool on my balcony, I knew this was somewhere I would never forget.
From the incredible food to the attentive and welcoming service, everything is faultless and to enjoy the experience, effortless.
Nothing is too much trouble and everything has been thought about to make your stay memorable. I cannot wait to return!

Best hotel in Cancun
Pros:

My family and I absolutely love this hotel. We have been coming here for 4 years now, we are going again this December and it will be our fourth time. The entire hotel has an extremely relaxing, and calm vibe. The property is very modern, renovated, clean, and beautiful. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and have great views, as well as the location of the hotel itself being absolutely incredible. It’s essentially situated on a sort of canopy where you can look down and see all sorts of unique flaura and fauna. The gym is pretty good as well, especially for a resort. It has all the basic necessities like a pull up bar, some treadmills, a smith machine, free weights, and a squat rack. The food here is also very fresh, and well prepared. The resort has Mexican food, Japanese food, and a contemporary cuisine so everyone can definitely find something for themselves here. The only slightly bad part about this resort is the fact that you can’t really swim in the ocean. Well you technically could, but there are stingrays in some parts, and a lot of seaweed and plants that kind of block you from taking a nice swim, but that is of course why there are two excellent pools that are very clean and well designed just like the rest of the entire property. I can’t stop praising this resort, it’s honestly amazing and if you get the chance please come here and see everything for yourself.

10/10 top hotel spots I’ve visited
Pros:

The property is more beautiful in person! The staff went above and beyond to make our babymoon special. They even provided a pregnancy pillow. Etéreo is a smaller more boutique vibe and set in beautiful nature. One of the best trips I’ve ever had. Ommar was an incredible guide and extremely helpful to us. He is so kind and thoughtful and on top of it. All the staff was so kind and friendly. Great atmosphere. Also had an excellent massage. The spa portion is a must visit and a hidden gem on the property. I cannot wait to come back!!!

Etereo was Spectacular on Riviera Maya!
Pros:

The resort was gorgeous! Our room faced the ocean, and we opened the curtains every morning so we could see it from our floor-to-ceiling windows. The swimming area was spectacular, never crowded, with plenty of seating and even in-the-water couches. Beach front lounges were perfect, and so were the wait staff. But it was the service that was over-the-top. The staff practically doted on us! We began our visit with a Mayan cleansing ceremony; we had a personal concierge who checked on us several times each day, the pool staff bent over backwards, the food servers were fun and super friendly; it just goes on and on. We felt like we were looked after personally. What a great feeling.

The people are what make this place so special
Pros:

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at Etéreo and the service here exceeded my expectations in every way. Sure, there are thousands of resorts in Mexico to choose from – what makes this place so special are the people and the service they provide. From a personal butler who helps orchestrate anything and everything your heart desires to the wait staff at the pool and restaurants, I was so very well taken care of during my stay. Beyond the people, some other things of note – the resort itself. It's beautifully designed and very well decorated. The rooms were large, tasteful and thoughtfully laid out. The resort sits in a lush mangrove. It was secluded, intimate and came with all kinds of personal touches. For someone who was on a solo vacation, the peace and quiet was exactly what I was after. I especially appreciated that one of the pools was adults only. Compared to a lot of other higher-end resorts, this one was reasonably priced and worth every penny. Special thanks to Daniel, Juan Carlos, Maria, Marlene and Oscar Sosa for taking such amazing care of me. I'll be back!

6 Days at Etereo
Pros:

Just returned from 6 exceptional days at Etereo, which is our third time visiting the property. We've loved each of our stays, and despite the decision to go during the "wet season" the weather held out for us again this year. The property continues to deliver, from the great rooms to the excellent food as well as the wonderful people that we've met there, both staff and other guests. Some specific shout outs would be our Guias, Adelaie and Jerry, Adrienne, the beverage manager, Daniel, Joel and Gilberto, our favorite bartenders at Itzam and Che Che's, our pool waiter Daniel, and the Mayan spiritual advisor Jenner. My failure to mention or recall everyone else should not be read to mean that anyone else that we interacted with was less wonderful, our experience being that pretty much everyone that we came in contact with was to a fault generous with their time and assistance. We always leave feeling as if we have developed new friendships, more than having been well served by a professional hotel staff, which is likely what makes them such sought after professionals.

We took advantage of the spiritual jewelry workshop, the Introduction to Mexican wine and the Tacology and Fuego and Vino specialty dinner menus. The food was, as always, wonderful and we would heartily recommend taking advantage of their excellent breakfast menu, and of course all the various salsas that were made available. We also ate off site at Toro, the restaurant at the adjacent St Regis, one evening, which was good as well but a little loud as there was a large group eating there that night. Our other adventure was the guided tour booked through the concierge of Coba and several of the Cenotes, which was a nice way to spend one day off site, although be warned the mosquitos were pretty bad, which we were told was true this year across the peninsula.

Beyond that, we spent our days visiting the well-appointed fitness center, languishing at the pool and beach, exploring the property and getting to know the staff. Etereo is not a Cancun party palace and despite our personal efforts to keep the bar open, once dinner service was finished, the hotel was quiet and so anyone that is looking for more activity than that might want to look elsewhere. However, if the above sounds like the perfect fall vacation, we would definitely recommend a stay at Etereo!

Pros:

Our experience at Etereo was truly amazing. From the gorgeous property, to the knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly staff, we were fully able to enjoy our vacation and relax and unwind. We were here for our honeymoon and they treated us so well and with such a special touch. Everything about this property was amazing. The gym, the spa, the restaurants, and the pool were all top-tier. We still haven’t stopped talking about how amazing the food was the whole time! and the service was truly impeccable. You can tell they really want to Make their guests feel special and taken care of And they very much succeed in doing so. I do not have one negative thing to say about this resort. I highly recommend going here for a relaxing trip with your spouse, family, or friends.

High Marks for Etereo
Pros:

Boutique hotel with only 70 or so rooms, which in my opinion is best suited for couples/adults. There were a few families there and I felt like they hadn’t gotten the memo: there’s really not much for kids. I understand, the property does allow children but I didn’t love that a couple dinners were impacted by fussy children. Additionally the adult pool is right next to the general pool if you are sensitive to that.

SETTING is a natural environment where buildings are built over lush natural mangroves. A multitude of busy birds, lizards, and the occasional coati. It’s gorgeous and tranquil, although mosquitoes were a nuisance in the evenings outside. Water at the beach is very calm, conducive to swimming. Seaweed was abundant but may be seasonal. Beach was a bit buggy, although again, I am not sure if it had to do with time of year.

SERVICE was outstanding. From the personal touches of waitstaff to exemplary housekeeping, from an efficient phone messaging system to doing everything to ensure a tranquil experience. One thing I will add and I am being honest, I think Etereo— along with many other ultra lux properties—need to set aside the butler concept (Gaia). Sometimes our Gaia was on the other end of the messaging system and sometimes it was another member of staff. All requests were met flawlessly by anyone who answered. I’ve written about this type of staff previously: they are unnecessary when the systems are efficient and the service is top notch. In my opinion they are just a way to make guests feel guilty if they don’t cough up with more tips.

FOOD was much better than I expected, not being a huge fan of hotel fare. In fact, we ended up eating all our dinners at the property although it wasn’t our original intention. Che Che was just OK, although their guacamole with a margarita for an afternoon snack was absolutely divine and was repeated every afternoon! We enjoyed Itzam’s à la carte menu 2 evenings, but we didn’t love the Abuelas dinner. Although the food was good, an inordinate amount is served. We are rather light eaters, but truly it was enough for four and in some ways turned us off. Would not repeat that, but again the à la carte evenings were very enjoyable, well presented and delicious. Also breakfast at Itzam was a delight, especially the service.

SPIRITUAL ELEMENT we found to be a bit kitschy. However the staff was more than obliging when we asked to skip it all. To each his own, of course.

All in all a really lovely stay that I’d repeat if traveling to Quintana Roo.
