We spent a week here over Christmas and were very happy with the food, the service, cleanliness and overall quality. The Royal is essentially an enclave within the larger Barcelo Active resort and definitely worth the extra. The all inclusive was definitely worth it and top tier drinks included. Great pool and first rate restaurant & drinks overall a much more intimate environment. Not packed & easy to get sunbeds & towels.
Coffee pods in room were great.Extra bed was brought for our teenage sun which was very much appreciated.
There is definitely need for some maintenance throughout as certain tiles etc were showing age but this was ongoing. Pool although heated could be much warmer. Yes there is a view of the power station but this didn’t bother us and the large balcony was great to chill out on
Clientele seemed to be largely British & Spanish
We would definitely consider returning
Impressive hotel with everything you need for a great holiday. The Royal level has the best pool and bar area so worth the extra to stay in this part of the hotel if you are a couple. We hired a car as we like to explore the whole of Lanzarote and also easier for getting into Costa Teguise as lots of people seemed to be waiting for taxis or buses in the evenings.
The hotel offers great value for money with the option of upgrading to Royal service which offers access to private areas and dedicated restaurant.
The gym is well equipped with a cross-fit area; it offers Les Mills classes throughout the day. Instructors are super friendly and do a great job at keeping you motivated by organising running club, hyrox and cross-fit type of sessions along with a mini iron-man competition.
The only downside is the lack of a beach but the nearest one is just less than 2 km away and easily reachable by taxi or on foot.
Highly recommended!
great holiday, lovely pool and facilities, room
was modern and kept clean.
the buffets were good and a great selection on newyears at gala dinner
There’s something for everyone. Right from children all the way to the elderly and everyone in between. Different restaurants , pools , snack bars, gyms , wellness centre etc It’s suitable for both sport lovers and those just looking to unwind and sip something cool at the pool side.
Our 4th visit, our 3rd in the Royal Level since first created. We are My Barcelo Unique members & this one remains one of our top favourite RLs of the many we visit.
Our suite was vast with a balcony receiving the afternoon sun as & location as we requested. Thank you. The balcony was furnished with old metal chairs, out of keeping with RL. I would suggest these are replaced with the nicer padded cushioned chairs all the other RL rooms & suites have.
We had some issues with the suite & being properly serviced. Guest Experience Manager Beatriz interevned & quickly all was well. She coulld not have done more 7 went way over & above. Truly exemplary customer care.
Now to the good things. Everything! A beautiful spotless well cared for complex with the most stunning gardens you could imagine. in particular the RL restaurant & bar are in the most beautiful setting. The outdoor terrace is a fabulous addition to the RL bar but needs more tables & the seats need cushions for comfort (please!). Entertainment was excellent. Staff kind & helpful.
The Ascana RL restaurant is the best run with the best staff & absolute finest service of all the RL restos & we have been to the all except one. The ladies who Manage this resto are top of their game & this has always been the case since it first opened, it gets better & better. I'll make special mention to the lovely hostess Eylen Garda who took extra care of us. And Patrice (hope I have that right), the breakfast chef & Egg Queen who makes the best Poached Eggs of all Barcelos.
Food continues to be excellent. What more do people want? Breakfasts & Lunches particulary. The grill chefs excel. Some things we missed from previous visits - Gorgonzola wheel (a big miss), Handcarved Iberico Jambon (another big miss), Lamb Chops & Entrecote steak served far less than previous visits. The Mexican evening was very good. The wine service is excellent.
The service & drinks in the main Pool Bar continues to be Tip Top. We use this in preference to the RL pool bar for shorter queues & better service & always have. The staff there deserve a special mention for their hard work & efficiency,
There was always sunbeds available around the RL pool during our stay & we continue to enjoy the peace of the quieter RL pool. Thank you for providing these alternatives.
so, another fabulous holiday, our second visit this year. We'll always come back. It's got everything we need but it's the staff who make it so special. Just seamless good service & customer care. And the jewel in the crown being the restaurant team. The best!!
The gala buffet dinner was phenomenal. Friendly staff giving wine choice recommendations, nothing was too much bother. Surf & turf including the best minute steak I’ve had in a while to the chocolate fountain, if you’ve ever considered Christmas away, do not hesitate to upgrade to Royal. The bar next door has an amazing team which completed beautifully a relaxed yet festive stay away from the hustle and bustle of home.
3rd time to stay in this hotel. Mostly good overall experience and comfort. A little outside of the town but publiv bus available outside the hotel and about a 30 min walk into the centre so still doable. Two non inclusive restaurants available to eat in depending on the night if not eating in the buffet restaurant. Royal level gives a few additional offerings to the general level. Plenty of pool towels available and shower availability close to the pool which helps to facilitate changing for a l flight that might be later in the day. Friendly staff and plenty of food and drink options for the All inclusive level.
We have stayed at the Barcelo over a number of years, and on recommendation this year we booked the Royal Level along with another couple who sung it praises from a previous visit. They like us were extremely disappointed, as they felt all standards had dropped.
Firstly the bar and restaurant staff were all very helpful and pleasant, not so much the front of house staff. We complained about our room, the lamented floor was lifting due to a previous flood, I guess, and had sharp edges that caught your feet, the WALLPAPER in the shower !!!! Had lifted and had black mould, the basin tap was very stiff and noisey to use. We were told they were fully booked and we could not be moved, we decided to make the most of it no matter how unsatisfactory it was. The RL restaurant had been reduced in size we were told and was very cramped so most days we ate at the larger restaurant which had more room and a better variety of food. To top things off the large pool was closed without any notification or
pre -warning, there was work going on involving grinding paint off, very noisy and the paint dust settled over the outside dinning area over the placemats and cuttelry. We have videos of everything, but just a couple of clipped pictures taken off the videos
Overall we were disappointed with the Royal Level.
Good; Hotel reception area, external grounds and hotel rooms are very nice. The royal level bar is also nice with good evening entertainment. Drinks are very good, Cruzcampo & Heineken on draught and bottles - very nice. Cocktails are made for you in the bar and pool bar which were impressive. Wine was very good too and served to you at the restaurant also.
Bad; The communal areas inside where the rooms are were very run down, standards very poor. Cracked floor tiles, walls damaged, lifts are so bad. We could not believe that hotel management deem this as acceptable. Our room faced the power station, it does have a sea view but the humming noise is the worst part (if you’re not aware of the power plant it will be a big problem). Our room had problems with sewerage and smelt so we had to move rooms, we had a delayed check in due to ‘maintenance issues’ so this was obviously the problem so why put us in there?. Not what I expect from ‘Royal Level’.
Average; The food was average. Good selection but only the same that you would get in any standard all inclusive.
We didn’t see it as value for money as too many issues and hotel failings.
Having read many reviews on several hotels before booking it was clear that apparently someone will have an issue with any given hotel. We selected this one based on consistently positive reviews regarding food and cleanliness and I can confirm that both were excellent, especially the Asana restaurant which had a lot of super efficient staff cleaning tables between courses. Rooms, communal areas, pool areas…..all spotless. The rooms are a generous size with a large bed, bathroom, living area, table and chairs and a fridge/coffee making area. The fridge is preloaded with water, soft drinks and beer which are free - any additional product required is charged although cartons of water are provided daily by maid service. There are multiple water stations throughout the hotel dispensing still and sparkling water. The nightly entertainment was much better than previous experiences in Lanzarote. The staff were friendly and helpful. The number 3 bus right outside the hotel took us into Arrecife (€1.40 each way), buses seem to be every 20-30mins. The hotel location is on the outskirts of Costa Teguise and yes, there’s an ugly power plant off to one side but you don’t see it from the pool area (some rooms would face it!) and the coastal walk into Costa Teguise is nice. This was my first experience of a Barceló hotel and I wouldn’t hesitate to use the hotel group again.
We visited here 2 years ago and booked direct with the hotel as we did this time ! First visit was outstanding and I really can’t believe a hotels standards can slip so much!
Royal level ??? We made a lot of money for poor service, poor food and dreadful surroundings in the royal level. We booked a suite which I have to say was very comfortable although the bathroom window had no hinge which meant it was either open or closed!
Staff … with the exception of 2 the rest were rude and made us feel like we were a nuisance . Had to constantly ask for a drink refill at lunch when there was probably only another 5 tables on the royal level restaurant at lunch.
Never did the a la carte the first time as we really didn’t feel the need so due to the lack of service we decided to try the Italian, La Dolce Vita…. Only allowed one drink with a very limited choice of menu !!! Thought we paid for all inclusive.
The one saving grace for this hotel was Raquel from the entertainment team! She was fantastic, got everyone in involved no matter what the activity !!! Ole.
Last observation was flies!!!!! Where were they coming from ? I counted 10 on my partner at one stage…
We did speak to customer services and were offered a discount code for our next stay… thanks but no thanks.
I work in the travel industry in the UK and I’m sure this isn’t the impression the Barcelo group would be happy to promote
Royal level is great, 2 royal area pool areas and a quiet lounge open from 5pm. Staff are lovely. Huge hotel so plenty of room for everyone. Food is great, again you can eat in any restaurant but there is a nice quiet buffet restaurant for royal area guests. You get one free a la carte meal during your stay, we ate at the Koi which was amazing, free meal is a taster menu but amazing food. Only negative for me was the distance from the resort, there is a lovely costal path, however the resort centre is 40-45 min walk away, there are a few shops and restaurants maybe 30mins away
Everything has been amazing all the staff are polite friendly and make you feel so feel welcome. The restaurant staff are brilliant nothing they won’t do for you. Enjoyed every minute of my 7 night stay. I upgraded to Royal Level my maid Carolina was just outstanding had a room on the 7th floor best views. A win win win!! Will recommend definitely. Thank you 😊 xx
Impressive hotel with wide range of facilities and with helpful and friendly staff. For those who enjoy gym/exercise facilities it is hard to beat. Location means one needs to take local transport (buses) to town, other facilities and sandy beaches. However, buses stop right outside hotel and run frequently from early to late.
Generally a good hotel which has beautiful grounds. A la carte restaurant not good and have to pay for-drinks, also have to pay for some food at pool bar which is crazy. For Royal level the a la carte restaurant should be all included or don’t as it causes confusion and embarrassment when having to pay for something later.
The chef in the Asana Restaurant used boiling water from a kettle to defrost frozen fish.. I could write an essay on how bad this Royal experience was.. But I think a chef defrosting frozen fish with boiling water just sums up the rest of the awful hotel service and food standards. He also handled raw meat and fish with the same gloved hands, cross contamination on a grand scale . OK if your like lamb flavoured sea bass..
Huge sports based hotel with a good selection of bars and restaurants. We ate in all restaurants and always a good selection of food but restaurants in main part of the hotel were better. Happy we went all inclusive as location is remote with nothing in walking distance. Taxi to town is €4 if you want a change of scenery. Even though we were part of Barcelo club and booked months before stay we still got the power plant view, moved room after a few nights. Great hotel for adults to have a relaxing holiday with good food and drink, but a bit quiet for kids.
Oversight on our part but children in same area. Also every colour of wrist bands was allowed anywhere in the complex.
First visit to Lanzarote (we were meeting up with friends who were staying in an apartment a short walk away), luckily we chose an amazing hotel with excellent facilities. Various pools, bars, seating lounges and the gym was fantastic. Entertainment looked good but we only caught the end of one performance, wish we had returned sooner! Location was great, we like to walk and Costa Tequise took us 15 mins, we found some great restaurants, though the hotel food was so good no need to go out. Bus service outside hotel takes you most places in Lanzarote. We will be returning Barcelo Lanzarote Royal Level without a doubt! Plan to hire hotel bike and take the trail from hotel, along the coast past Arrecife airport to Puerto Calero
