The Horton Hotel and Rooftop Lounge

We spent the afternoon and early evening on Thanksgiving Day in the bar waiting for the line at Dan'l Boone Inn to die down. Kendal was the only employee working and she was absolutely fantastic. She simultaneously managed the front desk and also the bar and was so pleasant. Even though we didn't stay there on this trip, we will definitely stay at the Horton on our next trip through Boone.

Beautiful, comfortable, the staff are kind, efficient and ready to help in any way possible. You can walk to shop or visit a restaurant. A simply incredible hotel and weekend experience. Last but not least, the price was right and what was offered was incredible!

Incredible stay! Comfortable and convenient. The rooftop is the best part with amazing views, firepit and a bar! The staff was amazing and so helpful! Will for sure go again!

My husband and I booked a lower-level room knowing it wouldn’t have windows, but we were not prepared for how dark, uncomfortable and dirty it was. The room felt more like an unpleasant basement than a hotel space. The lighting was harsh, with no table lamps, the grout on the floor was chipping and there was a black fur rug that was honestly disgusting. There was even a large salt lamp sitting on a tray with a dirty towel underneath it, which did not create a relaxing atmosphere-it made us question the point of the lamp. We also found mold around the seal of the room temperature water pitcher. To make matters worse, the room was beside a maintenance closet, and staff were loudly going in and out around 10:30 PM each night. I dreaded going back to our room each evening.
The breakfast was surprisingly good and the girl working it was doing an amazing job running everything by herself (while the front desk attendant was too busy on his phone to help her). The rooftop bar was also nice. But overall, the room experience really overshadowed everything else. I wouldn’t recommend staying in one of the lower-level rooms at all. We would not stay here again unless in an above-ground room. Even having a different room option I may look elsewhere for lodging. So disappointing when my husband and I had a quick getaway together.

This was our first visit to Boone and friends who live there told us the Horton Hotel is a great place to stay based on its central location on King Street. They are absolutely correct. We walked to dinner, we walked to amazing ice cream sandwiches, we walked to coffee the next day, and we walked some of AP State’s lovely campus!

The bar inside the Horton is inviting and we felt very welcome by Molly and Bree. In the morning, Kat took fantastic care of us for our very tasty and much appreciated breakfast. All of the staff truly cares that we chose the Horton to stay in.

We left behind a bag of treasures from the darling store almost across the street and Adam assured my husband that housekeeping found our bag and that they will be mailing those items to us. Great customer service.

The rooftop area is lovely and even though it was cloudy and windy as can be on our first afternoon there, we made a point of going up to the rooftop and taking in the stunning views.

Don't stay in room 2 if you want to get any sleep. The bar is right over your head. Got woken up out of a sound sleep by what sounded like furniture being dragged across the floor and walking back and forth. Continued for an hour, until almost 11. Lousy nights sleep for my long drive the next day.

Very nice hotel. Close to local downtown shopping and restaurants.

I paid Expedia for a ground floor room, there is no ground floor rooms here there is a lobby and a bar. The room they put you in because you booked through Expedia is a basement that smells musty and has no windows.

Very comfortable room and shower. Best thing was how friendly and helpful everyone was. And the location can't be beat.

what a surprise spot for a nice hotel..very small and done nicely...the rooms are each different and depending on your needs is what you pick.. we had a very nice room with a porthole window which was enough light...
the room was very clean and as was the bathroom which is done well...
The breakfast muffins are a very nice touch..
If going back to this area we would stay again..if you are in boone give it a try...

We enjoy staying at the Horton Hotel in Boone, NC. The rooftop bar is so fun! The beds are comfortable, showers are big, and have complimentary shampoo, conditioner, body wash. There is also complimentary hand soap and lotion. Complimentary coffee and breakfast. Walkable to all if downtown Boone and App State campus. Overall it is excellent!

The Horton Hotel will definitely be my “go to” hotel whenever I’m in Boone … great location, parking access, walkable, nice rooftop bar and friendly staff!

We have stayed at the Horton Hotel several times and have always been happy with the stays. However this visit from 07/25-07/27 was a major let down. The Hotel has lost its appeal. Staff are not as friendly as the used to be and the service is slow if not next to none. It started with a big issue with my reservation I had to call at least 5 different times to get it resolved. Granted I created the issue by going through Booking.com first. however once I figured out the problem the staff at the Hotel were less than helpful. The situation continued on for 3days! I ended up cancelling with Booking.com and making a reservation direct with Hotel Horton. Booking.com would not issue a refund without the Hotels approval. They sent several emails that the Hotel just needed to respond to. This is what took 3 nights and days! Our room was dingy, the heavy brown carpeting seemed dirty. The bed was severely uncomfortable I slept very poorly for both nights. The Hotel is showing its age and their success has clearly not done anything to upgrade or add any kind of amenities. Self parking is now $25.00 a day and still is advertised as Free on line.
The long and short of it we are saddened by the experience we had and the nature of the Hotel and staff. We will not stay there again! You pay a premium from a very dismal stay. It saddens us that this has happened for when it first opened and several stays we have always enjoyed ourselves, but never again for us.

Excellent stay! The rooftop bar was a total gem and we'll definitely be back.

The parking was a lil’ confusing.. but manageable. The staff at first were taken back with us since we are deaf. Once they figured out how to communicate with us it was smooth sailing.

Great stay, great bar. Walking distance from most attractions in Boone. Not far from hiking and Blue Ridge.

Parking wasn’t very convenient, there were spiders and gnats in our room, bathroom was small, BREKFAST server was not especially pleasant…. Don’t feel like the room and hotel was worth the almost 250.00 we paid for one night. The sleep inn we stayed in the night before was 150.00 cheaper and roomier and had a better breakfast. The location was great and the roof top bar was cool but that’s about it.
