I don't mind a property being a bit rustic, or bohemian, but if the floors are as dirty as these were, there was a leak from the sink, and fridge, dangling wires from the ceiling, and when I saw on the stained furniture I started to itch, and my eyes started burning. I tried calling the property, and received no answer, the voicemail for them was full, or turned off. I booked another place and considered the money I used to book the Alvarado a loss. I hope they work on the issues I've listed here. But I don't think I'd ever book here again.
Washroom smells bad. Has some sewer issues.
So hot inside. A few about to die plastic fans do nothing. Shower gives boiling water for a moment and cold for long time and hot water leaks to your feet from the leaking hot water tab. All the furniture is super stained. Dead bugs all around.
The kitchen sink tap leaks to spray you clothes. We cut a water bottle to put in it to drain the leaked water down.
The communications from the property operator is amazingly good but with all the wrong information. Building number was wrong. Parking address was misleading. You to juggle to tryout a code to open on of the many realtors’ lock and that code applies to none. You make an international call to the property operator and you are told that the code you received for this checkin without human interaction is wrong.
Let me stop here. Though there is a lot more to write.
Horrible experience. The owner was impossible to reach, the property smelled like cat poop, the room was dirty, dusty and unsafe (as the window next to the bed was broken). Don't stay here. We didn't. We arrived at the location, the Uber driver was scared for us. We contacted Expedia and they told us to leave because the property owner shouldn't ask for your credit card info via message, as they did. Luckily, we didn't share any ingo. We ran away the very same day. Seriously, don't stay here..
We arrived at the place at midnight place hard to know if was the right place nobody to check this place don't look safe at all it looks is an old house converted to apartments with a lot of locked gates for each apartment you don't know where is the right entrance afraid of knock at the door and you find somebody there my family was afraid when we got there we left with out getting in there and book to motel 6 in pasadena at 1 AM I should look at the reviews before if you traveling with kids not a safe place waist my money but safety is priority.
Some effort had been made to clean (toilet had been sanitized, bedding was fresh) there were still problems….previous occupant had left (spoiled) food in the oven, pubic hairs on washbasin, bath mat soiled, no lighter for gas stove, no cutlery. When I messaged they bought a lighter.
Worst of all was trying to find the place and gain access after an overnight flight….there was no response from the facility when I called. When we located the lockbox there was no key inside.
Everything was very great and the host was very nice!
The windows do not have curtains in the common areas.
My stay in Alvarado terrace is incredible and quiet.
It was very difficult to navigate myself around property, the instructions were unclear and the owner was not really cooperative. I ended up booking another hotel. Would not recommend.
It wasn't far from the crypto.com Arena
Our room was not ready when we arrived, the bed was slept in, the trash was full and had clumps of hair in it. There were used and wet towels on the floor. We tried calling Candice, but she did not pick up and the voicemail box was full. I took pictures and texted them to her, she never responded. The room was unsanitary, so we had to find a different place to stay at the last minute. Extremely disappointed. She did make sure to fully charge our card anyway.
It’s supposed to be NO star if you have. This property is not in a living condition. The owner should have not rented this out. I have to leave and find another place to stay after the first night. Broken window. NO heat. Water barely working. Dirty towels. Not clean/spider webs. Waste 1/2 hour at 2:30am in the morning due to wrong code and cannot reach the management until third calls. Waste a lot of my time and money. Truly I expect a full refund from this incident. Unacceptable. 😭😭😭
Amazing room and basic for needs without spending loads of money
Everything was dirty, beds were old and worn out, extremely hard to communicate
It started with bad communication and the continued threw the whole trip. We wanted to have an early check in but she didn’t answer or called me back, I call her like 10 times and my friend also called her multiple times, and she after that called my friend back. She also said they had Wi-Fi but the code we good didn’t work and when we told her she said she was going to look at it and text us back but she never did. Then the floor was really dirty, our feet got black just by walking around without shoes. And the bed was really hard, and one of the windows in the bedroom was always open so you heard the street really well and also the curtains was not darkened so the light in the morning really shined through so it was light in the bedroom pretty early.
Great host cool places to stay has options around the same areas
I want to give an honest review about my experience.
I will start by saying it is not all bad. They woman I spoke to when coordinating my stay was nice and I did see her try to correct some of the issues of the stay. I will also say the room I stayed in was spacious as well. Unfortunately this didn’t not outweigh some of the significant challenges I experienced while staying here.
Pros: Travel coordinator seems very nice, saw her attempt to correct issues. Room was spacious.
Cons: communication in difficult, information is not relayed in timely or clear fashion. Didn’t receive info on how to get in building till hour before I arrived (3 hours after earliest check in time) and I didn’t get room number until after I arrived and waited with no response. No staff onsite. So if you need help you may find it had to get it. Hard copy key did not work on front door was locked out twice, (one time I left my keys and had to wait over hour in middle of night to be let in, but after I realized the keys didn’t work on door at all so having them would have made no difference), left something in room couldn’t get back in to get it because keys didn’t work. Neighborhood seems questionable. Water barely work in my room, no hot water, couldn’t even shower or wash hands in bathroom. No internet unlike advertised, no one to fix it, had to use hotspot and will end up paying extra for data usage on bill with month. No air conditioning which was not ideal in summer is California.
Place was as described in the photos, had a couple issues with the place once we stayed. Front door of building had a busted lock, shower didn’t drain and had a lot of dirt so no shower, called to get it fixed but wanted us to stay there in order for someone to come fix it and we weren’t canceling our plans, lastly we came back around 2 am and were locked out of building due to lock being changed and no extra key left in lockbox. Oh ya and no AC
Staying at the Historic Alvarado Terrace felt like staying at a Bed & Breakfast. The room we stayed in had a victorian feel in the breakfast nook, and nice homey touches like small photos and hanging lamps and decorations that you don't find in most hotels. I wasn't expecting a full suite when I booked, but it looks like all rooms come with a separate bedroom and living room area and a mini kitchen (full kitchen in some rooms). The photos don't do this hotel justice, and I was pleasantly surprised after checking in. The owner Candace was super accommodating and you can tell she really cares about her guests. She really went out of her way to make more convenient arrangements for myself and some other guests. She was at the hotel day and night working and taking care of anything that needed to be done. I was a little hesitant to book initially because the area seemed slightly run down, but it was quiet at night, and only about a 15 min walk from the downtown convention center area. We really enjoyed staying here and will definitely book again in the future!
Overall experience was pretty good. Very spacious compared to many other places.
