Nice but wouldn’t stay again
Pros:

Stayed 4 nights. Good location. Upgraded to villa for bath and wasn’t unable it was so dirty.
Eaten alive at breakfast 50 plus bites as we had to have breakfast on the terrace. Didn’t have breakfast there again. The mosquitos were a nightmare around the pool and in the rooms. Might have been better if they sprayed them of an evenings

Pros:

We are extremely dissatisfied with the hotel. There were ants in the rooms, on our clothes. The rooms smelled, the windows did not open. The staff was incompetent and constantly did not understand what was being said to them. They accused us of stealing two towels from our rooms and made us pay for them afterwards - oh my god how could we steal towels that are so miserable and smell like mold. I would never visit this terrible hotel again and I do not recommend it to anyone. Scammers!

from the first interaction they treat you like a criminal
Pros:

Bizarre and incredibly confrontational check-in and check-out process. Demand passports for all guests, scan this QR code for this, scan that QR code for that. Give us your address. Park this way when entering, drive that way when leaving (because they have no parking and offer no advice where to park). Wait here when checking out so we can check your room. Finally told them to F-off and they tried to block me when leaving.

Absolutely stunning gem of a hotel
Pros:

This is one of the best places I have ever stayed, everything was spot on.
Super friendly staff that you really should get to know, they all work very hard.
If you have any questions the concierge will help you with any info at all (make sure to ask about the beach clubs they recommend, we used both (Martina Beach club was our favorite Ibiza style music very comfy loungers and excellent staff) the other was INTI beach much quieter and no loud music)
Water was given to us immediately on arrival, easy check in and Vicktor is on hand to take your luggage to your room (don't forget his tip !)
I have seen a few moans about the breakfast being in the restaurant which is not on site but it is ! its right through the door from the garden so I do not understand the issue here, also the food is excellent and lots of choices including the Omelet bar which I loved. You are limited to one free hot drink each but I am pretty sure you can purchase more also juice is refilled free, the staff are lovely, be nice to them and you will get the reward.
The restaurant 'Ipanema's' is also worth eating at in the evening if you are a meat eater you will love it ! .
The staff must have taken note from my Passport that it was my Birthday because they decorated our room which was a wonderful surprise and really made the stay extra special.
This hotel has a beautiful pool and loungers and is so so quiet considering its is 1 block from 5th Avenue, so now to the other issue some people may have, there is a huge club opposite the hotel called Coco Bongo, as far as I could tell, the only noisy night was Friday but we couldn't hear it in our room as we had air con on in the room and it absolutely did not keep us awake.
There is a lovely spa on site which is immaculate and as a guest you can use it for 30 mins every day for free just let the girls know what time you would like, they will ask you if you would like treatments at extra cost but there definitely no hard sell from these lovely ladies., ask them to show you round.
Check out is 12pm but if you ask nicely they will let you stay and have lunch and use the pool, I can only guess the other reviewers do not know how to ask politely if its possible to stay on a few hours whilst waiting for you airport car/bus etc...it was no problem and very welcomed.
This is a very secure hotel and they don't allow you to bring non guests in, there is no way anyone can just wander through the grounds either which brings comfort so you know your room is safe, talking of safes...its free and in the room near the fridge.
The location is superb, such an oasis in the middle of town and few minutes walk to the beaches, don't forget to explore the other streets as we found the food to be better and better value ie Marguerita's on the 5th avenue 800 pesos and 180 pesos in a bar on the side street, tasted the same.
Its totally safe to explore and we soon felt relaxed to be here, just keep an awareness as with any place strange and you will be fine.
I would totally stay here again I have zero bad things to say about the whole experience and I didn't want to leave.
Thank you with all my heart to the staff here..Natlally, Brenda, Vicktor, and Mercedes from Ipanema's.

Just no
Pros:

We stay there for one night yesterday. Surprise when we check out at noon we asked if we can stay for the day to used the pool as our flight was only tonight. They said we can stay until 1pm that’s it. First place in my life that kick us out after check out. Also the place was empty so don’t really understand the point. And we check in the night before at almost 7h30 at night so didn’t have to enjoy the pool at all.

Wonderful small hotel
Pros:

This is a great little hotel. The location is a block off 5th and about 2-3 blocks from the municipal plaza where there’s tons of street food vendors each night. There’s a great coffee shop about a half block away. Also only 2 blocks from the ADO station. Great AC, wonderful staff, big rooms. My only critique was lack of hot water (room temp was as hot as mine got), and the bath towels are a bit like plastic. Luckily they have nice plush robes. The pool area is best! The whole place feels like a jungle oasis right downtown. Safe, clean, comfortable with wonderful customer service.

Decent stay but could be better
Pros:

We spent a week at Magic Blue Spa for some rest and relaxation after visiting Mexico City and Oaxaca. Overall we had a decent stay but there are some things that could definitely be improved. First impressions of the hotel are great, and the outdoor pool area as pictured is beautiful and we spent a lot of time here. On closer inspection though the sunbeds were quite stained and dirty and the some of the tiles in the pool were stained green with algae. The pool bar had a good variety of drinks and snacks and the staff there very friendly - the happy hour between 1-3pm was great value and the cocktails were very tasty. The room itself was ok. It was a good size with a very large bed. However the bathroom was quite disappointing and felt shabby and outdated. The water pressure in the shower was poor and frequently cold. We told management about this and were instructed to leave it 10 mins to warm up and to turn the tap in the sink on. It did eventually warm up but this felt a bit low-standard for a boutique hotel. It was also a shame that we appeared to have the only room in the hotel without a hammock in front. The buffet breakfast was served at the restaurant next door. Good variety of options and quality was okay, but not as good as other hotel breakfasts we had on this trip. Drinks were limited as well to one hot drink and one juice each which was bizarre. Location is great and just off 5th Avenue. It is opposite Coco Bongo so can get very noisy at night as other reviewers have said, but to be fair this was only an issue on one night out of the week we stayed here. Staff were overall quite friendly and pleasant, although there one or two slightly draconian rules which felt a little patronising e.g. we were left a slightly passive-aggressive note in the room asking us not to dry towels on the balcony. The spa had a good variety of treatments and was reasonable value after using the discount that we got for booking online. The facilities in the spa were very nice (e.g. indoor pool, jacuzzi), but it was a shame that they are not available to guests unless you pay a fee. This would've been good to use in our last few days where it was heavily raining. This is a bit misleading as this area is extensively photographed/promoted in the pictures of the hotel but it is not clear that this is not included. Overall not a bad stay but feels a bit misleading from the photos.

Excellent, an enjoyable stay
Pros:

We stayed at this lovely resort for one week. We found it very pleasant, very clean and very efficient. From the warm arrival to our departure we cannot fault it. The room was very spacious with a lovely king size bed. Everyday we had received clean towels and toiletries. The shower as mentioned before takes about one minute to run and you get endless hot water, it can be slippery so do please use the mat provided.
Breakfast is a buffet from an adjoining restaurant with plenty to eat, providing local cuisine to cereals, fresh fruit etc. The seating for hotel occupants is outside (covered), a tip do wear mosquito spray as we got stung here.
The pool area is clean and attractive, we never not got a sun bed. Beach towels are provided and yes you are warned if you lose them or your key card you will be charged, which is normal!
We had a problem with our air -con not working after a few days and immediately after reporting it was fixed. The manager was professional and courteous at all times, nothing was ever a problem. There is also a pool bar / restaurant which we used a few times, Daniel who worked there needs to be mentioned as he was an absolute delight and always had a smile! In fact every employee did. We also used the spa and had two amazing massages and a collagen facial, all excellent. I would highly recommend and definitely go there again. A famous club called Coco Bongo is located very near and as the reviews before mentioned you can hear some music until 3am but we just wore ear plugs and had 7 nights of blissful sleep. The location is central and a short walk to 5th Avenue.

Average hotel.
Pros:

I'd say this hotel is just average. While it looks beautiful in the photos and even when you first arrive, there are major disadvantages. We had 2 rooms and when we checked in they gave us one keycard for each room and had us sign a form saying they would charge us if we lost the room key. Who does that? The rooms all look like they are in tree houses with lounge furniture and hammocks in front of each room. It's very pretty but we were on the second floor and the stairs to our unit were uneven and tilted precariously to the side. I was very nervous walking up the stairs at night in the dark, afraid I would fall. When I went to take a shower there was no hot water and zero water pressure. The most I could get was a lukewarm trickle of water. There are way better places to stay in Playa del Carmen.

Thank you!
Pros:

Overall it's amazing.

The view, options, especially the service.

I got to talk to a staff member in the bar called Dani/Danu, he's the best. If you need a good time, a drink, a good laugh, true advice/information, actually a good friend, then he's your guy.

In general they're very kind and thoughtful people, I wish the best for them.

The location is spot on, and the length the hotel staff goes to make your trip more comfortable is incredible. I was with family, and I shared room with my mother, and it initially was a single large bed, plenty of space for two, but we wanted two separate beds, and we got that the same day. It was meant to be like that, but the company we booked through messed a lot of stuff up(NOT affiliated with the hotel)

Great ADULTS ONLY boutique hotel- a hidden gem!
Pros:

My sister and I did a week-long girl's trip and stayed at this hidden gem of a hotel! Even though the location is right in the heart of all the shopping and dining, it felt so private and secluded! The hotel has a beautiful spa right on premises and a Brazilian steakhouse restaurant as well, and our hotel stay gave us discounts at both. The rooms, pool, bar and green spaces were secured behind a glass door that required a room key to enter, and that door was right by the front desk, so there was always hotel staff present and available. It also felt very safe and quiet. We were assigned a concierge, Elieser, who was very helpful our entire stay. The front desk staff greeted us every time we passed through and were always attentive and helpful. We got great tips for nearby dining, shopping and attractions through them.

The guest rooms all wrap around the pool and bar area, and remind me of tree houses with all the dark wood. Each room has a hammock across the private porch. Our room was tucked away in the back and had 2 double beds, with double sinks and a spacious shower. There were many channels on the large screen TV, quite a few of which were in English which was nice. Getting hot water in the shower was challenging at certain times of day- when we asked the front desk about the best times to get hot water, they sent someone from maintenance over just to check and make sure everything was in working order. I really appreciated that.

The pool and pool deck were beautiful! Pool furniture was wooden with large cushions and pillows instead of those cheap plastic chairs, and there were plenty of umbrellas and side tables. My favorite place to perch was one of the 4 submerged loungers in the pool. The bar serves a variety of drinks and food, and was open for most of the day. Towel exchange was easy through the front desk staff. The hotel also partners with 2 clubs on the beach so we had the option to get chairs and an umbrella out there, but honestly we preferred the quiet and seclusion of the hotel pool for lounging. It was fun to walk along the beach as it is very active out there, even in October.

One of our favorite parts of the hotel was certainly the spa, which offered massages, facials and other services. It is beautiful and serene with a sauna, steam room, showers, cool plunge and hot tub. We were able to spend time in the wet areas daily if we desired. The prices were a good value and the masseurs were fabulous! My sister and I booked couples massages so we could have our services at the same time- quite the treat. I also enjoyed a facial.

The hotel also offers an excursion coordinator- Oscar booked reservations for a day trip to underground caverns and the pick up and drop off was right across the street from the hotel. He had so many options for adventures- tours, adventure parks, boats- it was hard to pick!

I want to add that I accidentally left my tablet behind in the room when we left. When I called the hotel they found it, sent me a picture to confirm it, then worked with me over the course of several days to ship it back to my home in the states, even taking it to local FedEx. Elieser, Brenda and Vanesa made sure it got back to me safely- service above and beyond! I would definitely come back here and stay with friends again; I would even feel safe doing a solo trip.

EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL IN PERSON
Pros:

The pictures don’t do it justice. It is so beautiful. Everyone is so helpful and really caring and taking care of you during your stay. Anytime I come to playa del Carmen I will book this hotel for sure. We had hydrotherapy included which was such a treat every night. Pool also has a nice warm jacuzzi.

This is the best boutique hotels iv ever been too
Pros:

I cannot rate this hotel enough. The staff are fantastic. The pool cleaned every day cheap cocktails on happy hour, buy one get one free 12 till 3, We had such a comfortable bed wow slept like baby and the air-conditioning is great, and it’s free in with the hotel not like when you go Europe. All the staff are so friendly the cleaners are great. You don’t need them in every day. But if you do tip them well, they work so hard. The location is absolutely fantastic, The boutique hotel itself is a little sun trap but you walk out the front. You have everything you need and want, Coco bongos is directly opposite the hotel. The Beach is five minute walk but not so nice unless you walk to the other end it’s got a lot of seaweed which they do clean every day and can smell sometimes. But as an adult only hotel I will highly recommend it probably one of the best hotels I’ve been to and I’ve travelled a lot.

Beautiful pool and grounds, and a wonderful experience
Pros:

Having read through more reviews than I care to admit, I decided it was best to go in with an open mind, but be prepared for a possible let down.
Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed, and was in fact pleasantly surprised by this property.
Arriving rather late, we were warmly greeted and checked in quickly before we were shown to our room. Despite the heat outside, the air conditioning kept the room cool and it was a welcomed reprieve. It kept up through the entire trip, which was great given the near 40 degree weather during our stay.
Our room was spacious and had more than enough storage for a weeks’ stay. The beds were very comfortable, and everything was clean. A couple of bottles of water were provided each day at no cost, and there was more available at a reasonable price. No noise issues due to thin walls was a great feature for light sleepers like myself.
The rooms surround the lush oasis of the pool and bar. Quiet and relaxing at all times, though at night you can hear the party going on at the Coco Bongo. Loungers wrap around the pool and are quite comfortable.
The staff continued to always be hospitable during our stay, and were happy to help any way they could.
The mosquitoes were quite bad during our stay, but that is pretty standard for a humid place. Ants were definitely active, but never interfered or showed up in the room. Bring insect repellent and relax, the ants will not eat you.
The attached restaurant, though tan independent of the hotel offered a wide array of breakfast options that never left you to go hungry. It was however a bit of a guessing game with some of the dishes, as there were no signs to tell you what you were loading your plate up with. Mexican influence reigned supreme so do not expect to see a mountain of shredded hash browns or piles of bacon, but there was more than enough to feed even the pickiest eaters. Yes, they do have cold cereals.
All around, this was a solid stay and I would happily return again. Its central location just off of the main strip, proximity to the beach, great service and beautiful pool area make it a winner for me.
Have reasonable expectations and you won’t be disappointed.

Bad customer service
Pros:

I ordered the suite for my girlfriends birthday, the only reason I upgraded the room was to enjoy the bath.
The bath drain was rusted and it released rust bits in to
the water to a point that we didn't use the bath.
Plus the room had ants.
We noticed that at night and a guy came to see it, he told us he cant do nothing at night but he will make sure
the manager will speak with us at the morning.
At the morning the manager came to see.
He said that the ants is jot normal and that he checked the bath yesterday and there was no rust (like rust developed in one hour) and basically said that it's our problem we noticed this only at night time, they said that because they are a small hotel they cant refund the difference between the suite and regular room or a free
breakfast.
We are totally disappointed and this ruined my
girlfriends birthday.

Nice hotel pleasant staff shame about the manager.
Pros:

Hotel is very central to Avenido 5, with all the shops, and restaurants but once inside it is very quiet. The rooms are all set around the pool and the grounds are lovely. The beds are very very high but very comfortable. Strange layout which I think is maybe common to Mexico with the wash basin in the bedroom. The shower room has a shower and toilet, shower takes a while to heat up but is quite good once it has. Towels were changed everyday and room was cleaned every day, not sure how many times bedding was changed but seemed quite regular. The areas around the pool were very clean, the sunbeds were comfortable but looked a bit manky as bring material not easy to clean, so definitely need a towel to go over them. Breakfast is in the restaurant attached to the hotel so still within the grounds. Typically mexican food, a little bit confusing as no labels to know what anything was. However there was cereal, toast and omelette. You could also have jelly, salad, fruit, different types of meat dishes and vegetables so no shortage of choice. The staff were friendly and helpful. My only problem with the hotel was the manager and the mosquitos!!! Whilst we were there they decided to I assume treat the wood that the rooms are built from and two guys came in whilst everyone is sitting around the pool and starting blasting the rooms with something which sent out clouds of smoke and fumes there was no prior warning of this!!!! On a similar theme one of the rooms was being refurbished and the dust and fumes coming from it was extremely unpleasant, after asking for the door to be kept closed with no luck I reported it to the reception. The manager came out and spoke to the workmen, but said to us it was for their safety, she didn't seem to take into account they had masks on, but we didn't!

Quiet, comfortable boutique hotel, however charged us excessive $ for old, worn pool towels that were taken from our pool chairs
Pros:

Quaint, adults only hotel with very comfortable beds, block from 5th Avenue...someone took our hotel pool towels from our pool chairs and we were charged $70.00 for them even though we were told we had the old towels that were not numbered. High price for old, very worn towels.

Great place to stay
Pros:

This is our second time staying at Magic Blue. Great location and close to 5th avenue. Rooms are very clean and adequate. It’s a smaller hotel and the rooms all face the central pool and garden. There’s enough trees to create some privacy on the balconies especially the upper level.

The hot water for the shower is slow to warm up. Like really slow. It can be noisy at night but hey, it’s playa del Carmen and close to the night life.
