We had high hopes for this hotel as it is effectively one of the best hotels in at Costa del Sol. However, just as we had our first breakfast we realized how wrong we were.
First the good things:
Spa Massage was amazing - Ascension had great skills and knew exactly what she was doing. Also they let families use the facilities over new year until 5pm which was very nice as a lot of families with toddlers were staying.
Now the bad things:
Breakfast staff was one of the worst we've ever experienced, even in lower standards.
They had a live pancake station where they did not prepare your pancakes or anything fresh at all. Not only that but the lady was so unfriendly towards guests asking for anything. Fresh berries? Some aggressive spanish mumbling and basically throwing a cup of berries at you. Ordering in english? Sorry no english (as if PANCAKE is so hard to understand).
Waiters were completely overwhelmed despite the room being half empty. When our table was full of stuff the waiter put the hot espresso I ordered on our toddlers playing book which was in front of him. Needless to say I immediately took it away and made some space myself as I didn't want my son to spill hot coffee over himself.
I could continue with slow service, sassy comments towards us when ordering etc. but honestly speaking I cannot recall a poorer trained 5-star breakfast staff ever (and we have stayed in many 5 star hotels)
Last but not least it took them 3 complaints to finally send someone to do something about the silver fish in one of our rooms but eventually they came and sprayed the room.
All in all I gotta say that this isn't at all on par with other European 5 star properties and we will probably avoid European Hyatt properties in the near future. Considering their premium room rate you can probably get much more value from lower classified properties - although the facilities and rooms are very well maintained.
Hyatt has brought back an incredible resort. La Zambra is an amazing experience, the spa and indoor pools are amazing. Even in December the outdoor pools call your name. The Spanish Staff members were amazing both elegant and kind. Smiles all the time and a can do attitude. The rooms were very clean and the Picador restaurant was very good as well.
Only suggestion would be that as it was our wedding anniversary we would have really appreciate a small bottle of wine or champagne. It was our 5 year wedding anniversary and though I know it can be hard to distinguish the genuine at least after meeting us it would have been nice that something be sent up. We received some nice andalusian snacks but it felt like a normal gift that anyone would get.
Again this should have no impact on visiting LA Zambra, it's amazing!
La Zambra is so much more than a hotel - it is an experience. The rooms and breakfast facilities were superb and the staff were super polite and helpful.
Very nice and quiet golf hotel with a huge spa, situated away from the seaside in the lovely hills. Nicely and elegantly refurbished former Byblos hotel icon. Courtesy short transfer to Mijas Golf, but also well situated to explore lots of other excellent courses. The best in the hotel is however the kindness and service mindedness of each and all members of the staff.
Only superlatives can be applied to La Zambra resort in Mijas, Spain. Beautiful architecture, landscaping and surround, tastefully appointed rooms, immaculately maintained, and staffed by the most personable, capable and professional staff imaginable. The two restaurants were excellent, the daily breakfast the freshest and most varied I’ve encountered in decades. Special shoutouts to the concierge and front desk staff Jorge, Tito, Neils, and Javier and to the engaging bartenders Jose and Jesus and Victoria in the spa where I was the beneficiary of the best deep tissue massage in my life from Ascension. Kudos to all.
Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. Staff all lovely. Spotlessly clean. Spacious rooms have wonderful bathrooms and terraces.
Absolutely exceptional - stunning hotel with such helpful staff. We loved every moment of our stay and will be returning! The spa was stunning, our room was just beautiful and the pool was relaxing. A very tranquil experience. Not a lot to do around the area, and no where to walk to/ eat out, but everything you need is in the hotel or a short drive away.
Excellent resort with outstanding service, great linens and bedding, excellent restaurant, good spa termal facilities and ample of spa services, beautiful golf course , close driving from Malaga airport, Marbella and Mijas Pueblos.
The most incredible family friendly hotels. The hotel and setting is beautiful. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, they cannot do enough for you. The pools were quiet with plenty of sun loungers and fresh towels. Our little girl loved the kids club which is great for getting them out of the sun for a bit. The food at the hotel was amazing. For us the menu was a bit limited for the full week to eat there every evening so we did venture out and hired a car to do this. Overall would absolutely recommend we loved it and will definitely be back!
great experience from start to finish- clean well laid out rooms plenty of space and everything worked. Nice decor, very calming effect, great job with plenty of quiet space to relax- well done
Positives:
- Nice views and location though not a five star experience.
- Decent sized rooms - decor plain and not fussy;
- Clean rooms and grounds.
Negatives:
- I had a reduced mobility room which was not comfortable to work from and an alternative could not be provided;
- Very noisy one of the nights with a group in reception into the early hours, which took almost an hour to disperse once I phoned reception;
- Also very poor service at the pool - any order seemed to be problematic and this view was shared by our group.
I have raised these issues with the hotel directly before posting here.
Overall would not recommend as a five star hotel stay.
Fantastic relaxing place ideally placed to day trip other major towns
Very quiet, chic resort, nice upgrade superior room for us.Breakfast every morning Outside with nice view of garden, golf course and lovely swimming pool but not heated, most people have sunbathing, courteous staffs ,receptionist very helpful for planning our Andalusia trips.Sorry no comments for spa,we don’t use it.Safe place but you need car for moving around, luckily my wife loves to use Bus 223 to central station in Fuengirola then you could get train directly to Torremolinos, Malaga,or using bus to Marbella, Estopena ect…Don’t forget to bring your racquets for tennis or padel only.
This is a fabulous hotel and the Duncurins were delighted to spend the week within its beautiful walls and among charming staff. We’d previously had a great experience of another Hyatt hotel in Baltimore and this gave us confidence that we would not be disappointed, and so it was. A couple of friends live within 10 minutes drive ,so location was perfect but even without this added attraction the hotel is within easy reach (not just of the golf of course) but the beach, the delightful old town of Mijas as well as other destinations such as Marbella, Benalmadena and so on.
We had upgraded our room to one with a golfcourse view and with this wonderful view came a lovely sunny terrace with table, chairs , lounger and of course the wonderful sunny aspect that was present for most of the day. Our room and in fact the whole hotel was very quiet even though there were plenty of guests and even the air conditioning was barely audible.
We had opted for B&B and the breakfasts are wonderful with everything that one could desire arranged within the dining room but in case there was anything missing the staff would ask you if you wanted the chefs to prepare something specific that was brought to the table within a few minutes.
Without doubt the Spanish are lovely people and we enjoyed chatting with everyone and learning of their time in LA, their relatives in Luton and their time spent in the Northwest of England. We’d also make mention of the ladies who kept our room spotless and also the chaps on the front desk and outside who always made sure we were attended to and given chilled cartons of water whenever we were waiting for our friends to arrive.
We dined in a couple of nights and as expected the food is wonderful and has a great range of options. If one requires a less substantial option then bar food is available. We asked the barman if he’d had a good day and he pointed to the beautiful sunset and asked if anyone could not have a good day when staring at such a wonderful scene from such a location and this little vignette sums the whole thing up.
The Duncurins are pretty certain to be returning as our friends have asked us to return next Spring. Well done team La Zambra

Wonderful experience , Really so excited and deserve every penny
Thanks carlos and all the staff of La zombra
Very happy and Gracias
Fabulour hotel in quiet area. Perfect for golfers. Pool great for relaxation or active swim. Amazing mountain views.
Breakfast had everything you’d need. Amazing service. All top quality. Rooms very spacious with view onto pool area had balcony for further seating to soak up the views.
Evening meal in main restaurant where breakfast is was also top quality and tasty.
Over all lovely hotel with no problems to report.
We have just returned from a ten-day stay at La Zambra, combined with golf at Mijas Golf. Having visited the Costa del Sol for the past five years, I can confidently say this is the best resort hotel in the region.
The entire property is stunning. Serene, impeccably maintained, and offering a sense of calm and comfort that feels almost zen-like. What truly sets La Zambra apart, however, is its exceptional service. Everywhere we went, be it for breakfast, lunch, bar, pool, gym, spa, or dinner, the service was consistently outstanding.
Dining:
La Bartola by the pool was perfect for a light lunch, and they offer at the sun loungers. Cheerful and attentive staff. Breakfast at Palmito offers a generous selection with the option to sit indoors or out on the verandah (it was warm enough even in September to sit outside). Dinner is also served at Palmito, with a good menu selection and generous portions (if anything, the starters are almost too large). Service here was flawless; Alejandro in particular stood out for his excellence, and another lady (whose name I unfortunately missed) impressed me with how gracefully she handled an extremely difficult guest on our last evening. She also went out of the way to make a cheese platter 'happen' for me one evening which was not the menu.
We dined once at Picador, which has an interesting wine list but the food and service fell short compared to the rest of the resort. The two men greeting and serving seemed indifferent and even grouchy, though the lady was friendly. Bread was served without asking and then charged which is fine, but it would be better to ask first, especially given the more exclusive atmosphere Picador aims to create. Perhaps we have missed the fineprint but it was prompted to the table a minute after we sat down. Its a cheap way of squeezing in some Euros. As opposed to Palmito where they ask every time whether you wish to have bread. It has potential, but didn’t entice us to return during this stay.
Spa:
The spa is simply beautiful. Our therapist (I believe her name was Laura) was exceptionally professional, and the overall ambience was relaxing and refined.
Concierge & Front-of-House:
This is where the hotel truly shines. From check-in to check-out, the concierge and door teams were flawless, easily the best service in the entire hotel. On our arrival at 4:30 a.m. (jetlag…), the night concierge personally guided me to the 24-hour gym and treated me like a VIP. Throughout our stay, the concierge team was consistently proactive, polished, and efficient. And a special thanks to the door concierge - super friendly.
Rooms:
We stayed in Junior Suite No. 8 — beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, and perfectly maintained throughout. It was blissfully quiet, with private outdoor loungers. The room is well worth the splurge.
As someone who travels extensively for both business and leisure, I can recommend La Zambra without hesitation for couples, families (there are two separate pools), golf aficionados (the hotel offers special booking rates), and even corporate events.
Tip: Rent a car. The hotel is about 20 minutes from Málaga Airport and sits on a hillside above the Mijas area. Having a car makes exploring the region (Marbella is about 30 minutes away) far easier than relying on taxis.
In summary:
La Zambra is a rare find and the only place we will stay should we visit the region again. It is a beautifully designed resort with quite a history and with world-class service and an atmosphere of calm. Management is clearly doing something right here: they have created not just a hotel, but a true culture of hospitality.
Very quiet, relaxed resort, nice pool but water a little cold for me because no heating, but my wife loves it.Perfect for golfer or outdoor tennis, padel.you need transportation for visiting Costa del Sol ,town near by like Mijas,Fuengirola, La Cala, Marbella…very good entry for Andalusia trip. You could use public transport like bus, train, uber …Very nice breakfast,we don’t use spa so no comment for the spa service.Friendly staff advise the local tours or maps for your information if necessary but goggle map is very helpful,a must to master or plan your trip.
