An oasis of comfort and luxury
Pros:

Nicely presented and unusual in style. Well appointed with quality fittings and amenities. Perfect down to the tiniest detail, such as neatly arranged cutlery in the drawer. Lots of information provided eg re food and services nearby. Entry with code so much more convenient than keys

Cons:

Can’t think of anything we didn’t like

Superb accomodation in Hokitika
Pros:

This accomodation was incredible. Beautiful space, deco so nice with nice touches to its original function as a fire station. Everything was super clean. Good kitchenette facilities. Location a minutes stroll to centre. Honestly couldn’t fault anything. The owners deserve the praise.

Cons:

Everything was super.

Lots of fun staying in a fire station!
Pros:

It was a great boutique hotel, the 3 bedroom apartment is well equipped and looks just like the photos. The extra finishing touches from the fire station are great! We really enjoyed our stay.

Pros:

Staying at Hokitika Fire Station Boutique Accommodation was honestly one of the most unique and memorable experiences of our trip. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this place is something special. The transformation of a historic fire station into a boutique stay has been done with incredible attention to detail—blending character, comfort, and a touch of luxury perfectly.

The space itself is beautifully designed. You still get that authentic, industrial feel of the original fire station, but it’s elevated with modern finishes, high-end furnishings, and thoughtful touches everywhere you look. It feels both cosy and impressive at the same time.

Everything was spotless and well-equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom felt like something out of a high-end hotel, and the little extras—like quality linens, great lighting, and stylish décor—made a big difference. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to spend time relaxing, not just sleeping.

The location is also ideal—close to the beach and right near Hokitika’s main spots, so you can easily walk around and explore without needing to drive.

What really stood out was how unique the whole experience felt. It’s not just accommodation—it’s somewhere with personality and history, but done in a way that still feels premium and comfortable.

If you’re looking for somewhere different, stylish, and memorable, I’d 100% recommend staying here. Easily one of the best places we’ve stayed.

It’s very high quality standard accommodation right in the centre of Hokitika. Would recommend.
Pros:

Very high quality of amenities and beautifully done with fire station memorabilia. We had an issue with the booking via Booking.com where our booking had not been registered with The Fire Stairion which meant the Fire station staff had to sort accommodation quickly- which they did very efficiently and with little disruption to us. We could not fault their attitude and professionalism.

Cons:

All good

Comfortable stay in converted historic fire station.
Pros:

Central location. Character historic heritage building converter to five self contained spaces. Stylish fit out in keeping with the character of the building. Quiet. Great architecture. Thoughtful touches. EV charging including “slow trickle charge point” ideal for PHEV overnight. Comfortable bed.

Cons:

Kitchenette facilities more limited than expected. No hot plate. Dim bedside lamps. TV screen located above top of bed head seems a bit strange and dysfunctional - looks like the bed was shifted from the wall opposite to make space for a large sofa bed?
