I’m just not a huge fan of a room that looks into an internal courtyard as I find them a bit darker and claustrophobic. It didn’t help that I was staying at the hotel during bad weather. Bathroom had a damp smell, from lack of ventilation. It was a good size and good shower though. Bed mattress was a little firm. The Turkish bath element was also not what I was expecting and was a sad looking little room. Overall wouldn’t rave about this hotel, but it was fine for a one night stay.

A wonderful Gem
Pros:

This place is unbelievably beautiful and wonderful. The hotel uses nautical flags instead of room numbers as a nod to the town’s history. The rooms are large, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was a very good European style breakfast. What really makes this place is the staff. Albert checked us in and then gave us a brief history of the hotel and explained different sites around town. After walking around a bit, we promptly booked a second night. This will be my go to when coming to Viana do Castelo
