Wonderful stay here.
Pros:

Live music, views, private access to beach.

Cons:

Price is expensive, as everything in Maui. I think I got the best value for the price I paid though.

Pros:

I love this resort and hope to return.

Location: This resort, shared with the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas (south), sits on a premier snorkeling beach. Our oceanfront studio villa 8108 was truly oceanfront, and we could hear the waves from the room and sit on the patio and watch the whales and the people walking the beach walk. (This is in contrast to complaints of the oceanfront studios of the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas (south) where some reviewers say it isn't truly oceanfront.

The beach in front of this resort in particular is my first choice for Maui. With calm seas, it is perfect for snorkeling from shore and swimming. This time, the ocean was rough and there was no snorkeling possible and it wasn't the best for swimming due to the reef. We still loved the beach and did some boogie boarding but in rough ocean, you need to be careful because of the reef and close to shore break. We drove to other beaches, which is the amazing choice of Maui.

We walked to Duke's at Honua Kai and walked to Whaler's Village. Short drive to Honokowai and Lahaina. Excellent for sunsets. My perfect location.

Facilities:
Lots of choice for pools, hot tubs, and restaurants because you can access the pools and facilities at the sister resort and the Nanea. Pailolo bar/reataurant has a live musician with guitar supposedly nightly 5-8 but didn't happen on a windier night. Wonderfully laid back next to the fire pit and hot tub, close to the beach walk with tiki torches. Excellent. The musicians are good.

Several barbecue clusters very pleasantly landscaped and clean with tiki torches. They were very clean and welcoming.

Pickleball, tennis, basketball: Make reservations at the South Lobby, equipment lent for free from south lobby front desk. To 10pm.

Gym: there are gyms at the north building and at the south building #2. They are both good. The south building #2 has some Pelotons,a large sauna, and large steam room, lockers where you set your own code, and stretching area and equipment. These gyms are excellent for a hotel gym.

Shuttle: It is part of the Kaanapali shuttle system. Fun to walk to Whalers Village for commercial, them take the trolley back.

Late departure lounge: If you have a later flught, when you check out, you can get cards to access this lounge. This was much better than I expected. It is a room in Building #2, next to the gym, and with access to the pool de k near the beach side. There are half size lockers outside where you can set your own code and store what you need for the day. You leave your luggage with the bell desk. The lounge has 2 couches and about 8 easy chairs and a tv. It is pleasant. It was quite busy though. However, you can use all the hotel facilities so you can still go to the pool and beach. You can use the showers at the gym. In the women's locker room, there are 2 showers and lockers in the shower area and lots of towels. It was also busy but I didn't wait when I needed the shower. It is shared with the gym and first come, first served.

Checkout day: Normally, I would book an extra night when I have a late flight but that was not possible this time. I called in advance and asked again at check in and check out to pay for a late check out or half day rate. The answer was consistent that they don't do this. But the facilities provided really did make the day after checkout okay. We had lunch at Aunties Kitchen (good), used the gym, beach, pools and were easily able to clean up with the facilities. I was impressed.

Bell desk: Excellent service throughout the stay. We arrived very late and they take you to your room and provide free valet parking the first night. I had grocercies delivered from Safeway a few hours before we arrived and they kept them and brought them to the room when we arrived. The bell desk staff were genuinely nice and helpful.

Loungers: We always found 2 lounge chairs together when we wanted one, at various times in the day. I heard it was 92% capacity when we arrived. The loungers have proper cushions, better than the Westin resort.

Studio room: typical Westin room up to standard -good bed, enough outlets, lots of TV channels, space for beach chairs, cushioned patio seating, window in the bathroom, line for drying bathing suits. The kitchenette has everything but quite tight and you need the step stool provided to reach things. The lighting is pot lights which are glaring for me. The landscaping is very nice. Building 8 is prime. The parking is not close to this building (if mobility is a factor).

I hope to return.

Unsanitary and dirty
Pros:

Arrived 9/20/25 @Westin Ka’anapli Villas South Tower. Dirty glasses outside our door for 2 days, dust on furniture, soap scum all around sink, no body wash in shower. You could tell it hasn’t been cleaned properly. Took 5 hours and multiple calls to get body wash and to have housekeeping manager respond. All Michael Martinez had to say was sorry. There has been a commode in the hallway outside our door since the morning of 9/21/25. It’s still there. No one will call back or take responsibility for the unsanitary conditions. Pans in the room dirty as well. No response from Marriott Bonvoy Management. Was told someone from property will be in contact. Still no response

Want something? That’s an extra $100…
Pros:

They will charge you for every last thing…use your Marriott points and then plan on paying for EVERYTHING ELSE…and at “Hawaii+” prices.

Then again Hawaii has gone the way of Vegas and they may rely on tourists but they feel tourists are the enemy…

Another Great Stay!
Pros:

Always enjoy the villas. My family has grown and this resort provides the perfect amenities for a family in every season of life. I’ve developed many friendships with others who return every year and even bring gifts for my kiddos. My 5, 4, and 3 year old love the pirate ship pool. All the pools are open from 6am-10pm. The jacuzzis are always hot…

Actually as I’m writing this a security guard politely came to tell me the pirate ship doesn’t open till 9am (the operator told me wrong info, oops). Marvin was super friendly and offered other pools open and took time to introduce himself to my kids! Wow. Aloha spirit at its finest.

Willy and Tyrone and Aqualani were super friendly and instinctively offered pool toys to our kids. They loved them!

Ben C. at bellmen greeted us in the lobby, pointed out activities we could do, and talked story for a bit which was nice.

Kehau M and Tiffany L at the north office are regular faces we see and they are perfect ambassadors for the property, representing the very best KOR has to offer. They took care of our family this trip and every time even down to the details of celebrating our special occasions.

Chris R and his team are doing a tremendous job and from what I hear from everyone at the pools the resort continues to improve and thrive.

Mahalo KOR!

Ocean front room is a scam
Pros:

I’m an owner at Westin/Marriott vacation club. My family made a reservation and was confirmed for an ocean front room. See the pictures for what this hotel consider an ocean front room.

Then, the next day they did this us. See the pictures of balcony renovation/painting. Keep in mind that there are no windows in this studio. This balcony was the only source of natural light to the room.

When we checked in they told us that they aren’t sure if the renovation would take place in our room but if it did, they said they would be able to move us. Once the renovation start, they told us they don’t have any availability to move. So family is stuck in this room w no windows and balcony - so called the ocean front room.
As an owner, I’m tired of this game the hotel
Front staff play with us. We are often at their mercy when they assign rooms. They say they have policy but who knows if they are even following their own policy. This practice must stop. The front desk needs to be transparent. I pay a lot of money to be an owner and get a poor treatment at the hotel and by its front desk staff. Your vacation experience is watered down bc you don’t get what you pay for or the hotel itself has confirmed. Marriott needs to do much better. All the current and future owners beware.

A Ka’anapali Gem.
Pros:

This beautiful resort on the beach is outstanding in every respect. The villas are truly complete with all the necessities of home - kitchens, washer/dryers, excellent living spaces and comfy, cosy bedrooms. They have tubs and separate showers, too.
The grounds are immaculate with loungers by the many pools. There is a special area for the children - a pirate ship pool and a quiet pool for those trying to de-stress.
A lively pool bar and an on-site restaurant, a spa and workout facilities complete the picture. All very good.
There is plenty of free parking and the resort even provides a free shuttle to get you to local shops and restaurants.
This has got to be one of Maui’s premium vacation resorts.

Poor reviews, absolutely not reflective of this fantastic resort
Pros:

I am an original timeshare owner at this resort. I have been an owner since 2001 and have seen many changes over the years. I will admit the last five years the resort was poorly managed and maintained, partly because of Covid, but I believe because of poor management as well. Facilities got rundown and staff morale was very poor. On this trip, however, that could not have been further from the truth. There are major renovations and upgrades being carried out throughout the resort, and it is extremely obvious that a new manager has been appointed who has an understanding of what people want and an appreciation for What What makes a resort appealing. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the facilities are in excellent shape and are being expanded, and they have added a luau, as well as several resort type activities that make it much more fun to stay here. Prior to this trip, we were really considering the value of our timeshare, but it is clear that both management and staff have determined to make this resort a great destination, and a joy to stay at. I especially want to highlight the efforts of smiley at the front desk consistently went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

Pros:

This property was one of the nicer properties in Maui that we saw while beach hopping. It was less busy and the beach access was great for snorkeling. Was centrally located to most shopping and dining. Just sad we had to leave.

Great family resort
Pros:

Great family resort and amazing location for snorkeling at the beach. Spacious villas are very convenient for larger families. Access to grill is limited and on first come basis, so don’t plan on grilling often. Resort could use some minor updates, starting to show its age.

Amazing stay
Pros:

We had a delayed honeymoon here and it was AMAZING! The room was beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous, and the staff was super helpful. We had a maintenance issue in our room and they came right away, took care of it, and made sure nothing else went wrong. I was worried going here because of all the bad reviews, but after spending a week I would go back tomorrow if I could! Very family friendly as well.

Westin for Quality…10 Stars
Pros:

This Westin and the south buildings never disappoint for any vacation. Honeymoon, family reunions or a solo stay, this resort is outstanding. From the lush, well-maintained tropical flowers, the gorgeous pools (four locations), a wide open grassy space for little ones to run and play, we’ve enjoyed this location for more than 15 years. BBQ grills are cleaned daily. Perfect for grilling and enjoying home cooked meals as alternative food options. The rooms have also been well maintained and kept up to Westin’s high standards. Unlike other hotels where we’ve stayed, the turnaround time for additional towels and extra supplies, the service is outstanding. From checkin to checkout, valet service, the front desk staff and the housekeeping assistance, consistently provide excellent hospitality and follow-up. This Maui property warrants a ten star rating. That’s why we continue to return and host our extended families.

I would not stay here again.
Pros:

Needs a remodel and a deep-cleaning. Walls, floors and shower are not in good shape. Both outlets had to be replaced by maintenance for us to even charge our phones. Looks great on the outside, but I was very disappointed. We had great stays in Oahu and Big Island. The staff was very friendly and the grounds were fine.

NO Westin Quality or Service here
Pros:

We were very disappointed in our stay at this resort. Our room was in major need of a revamp. Holes in the curtain, mold in the bathroom, the dishes in the kitchen were dirty, the carpet was frayed. That’s just the beginning - there was trash left in the hallways every day. We tried to avoid time in our room since it also overlooked the park where people were living but there were not enough pool chairs and it was very hard each day to find two together. We attended a timeshare presentation and they acted as if they really cared about the problems with our room. They had me write it all down. But, in the end they did absolutely nothing to make it better or make us happy. In fact, when I went to the front desk to ask if we could check out an hour later I was told “no” our room had been assigned to Mr and Mrs Reed and “they are owners”. Poor Mr and Mrs Reed, they are getting a really bad room and I guess Westin doesn’t want us to become owners!!!

Beware!!!! Book else where!
Pros:

BEWARE!!! I recently booked a 5 night stay at this timeshare hotel, expecting a relaxing getaway. Unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable.

Upon arrival, we faced a frustrating 1 hour long wait in the lobby. Many guests around us shared their own complaints, setting a negative tone right from the start. When we finally checked into our room, we were greeted by a noisy room from the jacuzzi and pool directly outside. It was unbearable!

To top it off, the room's cleanliness was severely lacking. We found the shower covered in mildew.… definitely not what we expect from a hotel. After trying to call the front desk to request a quieter room, we were met with refusal.

This trip has been a major disappointment, which is not at all what we anticipated. I do not recommend booking a vacation package here; it simply does not meet the standards we usually enjoy. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere! We were deceived.

Disappointed. This property has gone downhill.
Pros:

We have stayed at all three of the Westin properties in the Kaanapali area, this one being the most recent stay. This was by far the worst experience we have had with a Westin or Marriott branded resort. The room itself appeared as if it had not been cleaned in years. I am not exaggerating. Take a look at the photos – there are food crumbs on the kitchen floor underneath the appliances in plain sight. This is not something that was overlooked with one cleaning, but has accumulated overtime. The walls in the bathroom were streaked with water stains, every wall, not just next to the shower. There is mold growing in multiple areas in the shower. The door to both areas of the bathroom had so much dust on them that it was clear that they had not been wiped clean in a very long time. This just ruined the stay. You go on vacation to feel comfortable and enjoy yourself. You can’t do that in one of these rooms.

Additionally, the buildings mazes. You have to walk through endless hallways and winding turns to find your room again and it took us several days to figure out the correct directions. I would pick one of the other two Westin properties over this every day of the week.
