Everything
Perfect location and beautifully decorated for the holidays
This small boutique hotel of 15 rooms is the perfect spot to stay if you visit Portsmouth. Close to bars and restaurants within walking distance, but off the beaten path so that you can enjoy the peace and quiet out of the main downtown area.
Each room is decorated with an elegant color pallet. We stayed in on of the smaller rooms, but it fit our needs for what we were in the area for. The beds are comfortable, showers beautiful and clean, and the hotel common area comfortable to hang out with friends.
The staff is super accommodating, and the service is run BnB style, curated to your personal arrival.
There’s a Japanese restaurant in the restaurant, Nichinan. We didn’t try it, but we plan to visit there the next time we are in town, we’ve heard great things!
Easy walk to main attractions of downtown Portsmouth. Great little Japanese restaurant in the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Valet parking ($40 per night).
Not their fault, but the weather forced us to reduce our stay to a single night with departure after breakfast.
I had a really nice stay at Hotel Thaxter! This place has such character. The room was clean and had great amenities such as a heated bathroom floor! I also really appreciated the sparkling water on tap in the lobby. The extra charge for parking was well worth it, as you park on the side of the building to unload and the staff moves your car for you. I will stay here again the next time I’m in the area.
A characterful older building with modern style rooms. Central location.
No hot water in our room. Ended up having to change rooms.
No parking on site. Hotel charges 40 dollars per night for off site parking.
Lovely hotel! Attentive staff. Comfortable rooms. Updated bathrooms. And great restaurant on site. Take the parking option!
Clean and comfortable. Nice Staff . Nice size room and bathroom. Extra towels . Large shower and bathroom . Walkable to restaurants and town.
No parking at hotel for larger car.
Staff was friendly, but not always available in person . . . contact thru text when not at desk
I can’t comment on the staff because their check-in just requires you to use your phone number to access the building and your room but the hotel was excellent. The rooms have no outside noise so if you’re a light sleeper, it’s the perfect spot. I got into Portsmouth long before my check-in time so I parked in a nearby garage which ended up costing the same amount that the hotel charges ($40/nt). You’re a block away from all the shops and restaurants and a short walk to Badger’s Island in Maine where you can get drinks and/or a bite to eat and a short walk to the town hall where they had a nice little farmers market Saturday morning
Great people, cute place, and a great night sleep! Parking is a little more difficult. Make sure to read all of your e-mails they send you. If you like Japanese food the restaurant that is attached is really good. They worked with us on all of my food allergies.
Room was dirty and ac was broken. Room smelled bad. Only someone at the desk from 8-8 so any problem is your problem. The manager was rude and unprofessional. Only stayed 1 of 2 nights booked. Would NOT recommend to anyone. Worst hotel experience of my life. Had to call my cc company to help get a refund. Disgusting
