All the Staff Was Very friendly! Great top notch service! The Girl at check in was exceptional! Sadly don’t remember her name! Very clean and comfy! Loved the design and feel!
Adorable boutique hotel in the walkable vibey Union Market area. Subway was 10 minutes away. Easy train ride from DCA ~30 minutes and train swap plus a 10 minute walk— but well worth it! Has all sorts of workspaces and amazing artwork throughout. Even boasts a rooftop bar that is jungle themed with great views and food. Had a great happy hour deal on tacos. Staff is always kind and polite. Absolutely love staying in that area. They take great care of flight crews. I stay here for work and personal. A hidden gem in the big city.
First, our room (111?) was in the back where you took a door marked “parking.” The rooms in the back where you accessed via the “parking” door didn’t seem to be a part of the main hotel where most of the rooms are located. Then you make a turn and another turn to see a door that says “loading dock.” The room was next to the door marked “loading dock” and diagonal to the meeting rooms. When my husband walked into the room first, he went to close the curtain but literally saw 2 women looking into the room. It was due to the hotel room window being next to a narrow alley diagonal across a lounge with floor to ceiling glass walls where people sat on stools on a bar height table. We did ask the front desk if we could get a new room at this point but they said all the rooms were pre-assigned so there were no rooms available . Just so you have an idea of the of privacy on the room, the next day I opened the Curtain to get natural light and a man walked past my window in the alley.
We’ve never been to a hotel room with walls this thin. The other low reviews of this hotel mention the noise issue too, so I assume only certain rooms have this serious problem. I have unilateral deafness, so the neighbor room sounds weren’t too bothersome . My husband could hear the neighbor’s alarm clearly (whether it was their phone or hotel room clock alarm) which woke him up in the morning. He could hear their conversations non stop. Note that we only stayed in the room for about 10 hours since we checked in late for one night and went out for late dinner returning around midnight. The Tv didn’t work and had a hanging wire. Also the thermostat didn’t work for the heat . Next day we learned that, there was a remote control for the thermostat on a different wall (not eye level) high above next to sink vanity lights and this room may have even been the only room that didn’t have a thermostat that worked. There should’ve been a note next to the thermostat or front desk should’ve informed us upon checking in especially because the weather was freezing temperature that night. Also the TV on the wall had a hanging wire and it didn’t work. The TV was also much closer to the ceiling than the bed (maybe about 6 ft higher). The placement of the tv was very odd. We did complain to the front desk about the issues with the room but they weren’t helpful considering we only stayed in the room for 10 hours at night. This isn’t what I expected from a Charleston hotel group.
There is zero soundproofing. It’s horrible. The person in the adjacent room came in around 1am. Not only did I hear their door slam, but I can also hear every single noise in their room, even the rustling of a plastic bag. I can also hear all the traffic snd train noise outside. So that basically means I will not sleep tonight.
The room wasn’t cleaned properly. There were brown stains on the bathroom door, among other spots.
The thermostat has an absurdly convoluted and unintuitive interface, so it is impossible to use.
The cherry on the top is some kind of smart clock/device with a camera facing the center of the room. So whoever inevitably hacks these devices can watch everything guests do.
My wife and I stayed in DC for a surprise party. The hotel was close to the party venue, so this was a selection for convenience. We were pleased with the selection. The hotel looks amazing, and the staff were so nice. Parking is limited and expensive. Our room was one of the best we have stayed in while in DC. The Asian restaurant on the lower level was amazing. The hotel's food was just ok. We will select this hotel again!
I had a fabulous one night stay at Hotel Nell! I was in DC with a friend to go to a conference, and we decided to stay the night in the city rather than return to Baltimore. The hotel was an easy walk from the red line through the Union Market area. What a fun and lively part of DC! We checked in around 6, tired from a long day and with the intention to drop our things and find somewhere to get dinner.
The sweet woman at the front desk (sorry I can’t remember her name!) and the GM, Adam, were so nice and accommodating. They gave us vouchers for margaritas at the rooftop restaurant Treetop. After dropping our things off we decided we loved the stylish and relaxed atmosphere of the hotel so much, we might as well take advantage of the drink vouchers and have dinner there.
Treetop was great. It was a little chilly outside but a beautiful evening and we were comfortable enough with jackets, which was good because the view from outside of DC and the Capitol Building was stunning. We had chips and guacamole, I had tacos and my friend had a bowl. Both were delicious and fresh. The friendly staff checked in on us often, but mostly left us to enjoy our food and the view.
After dinner we weren’t quite ready to go to bed, but we didn’t want to go back out into the city. So we went to the bar in the basement called the Singing Tiger. I had heard good things about the cocktails, and they were fun and tasty. We split a dessert and enjoyed chatting with the bar tender for a while. Before going to our rooms we filled out papers to hang on a tree to symbolize something we wanted to give up. What a fun touch!
The room was small, yet comfortable. I liked the toiletries, and the keys being in seed packets was a cute touch. There was plenty of space to hang up my few clothes, and even from my room on the second floor I got a good amount of natural light. I’m so glad we could spend the evening in the hotel, have a great dinner and drinks and be relaxed in bed before 11pm.
Before checkout we enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby. There was a German school group eating breakfast at the same time and all of the tables were occupied, but we were able to be accommodated at one of the other tables in the lobby. The breakfast bowl was exactly what we needed to fuel ourselves for the day, and the mimosas and coffee were good, too. Again, the staff, the managers, everyone made us feel welcomed and taken care of.
Hotel Nell is a gem in a fun and popular area of the city. I felt safe and a little spoiled. The next time I want to get out of Baltimore for a night or two away I will be back!
I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Nell. The rooms are beautifully appointed and very comfortable. When I thought I had an issue with the thermostat (it had switched to heat instead of cool), I simply said “Alexa, call the front desk,” and a staff member came up to my room immediately and set it back to cool for me. Incredible service.
On the main floor, there are tables and chairs, a microwave for guest use, and plastic utensils. In the room, there is a Keurig coffee maker with pods and a refrigerator. In the shower, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are provided. At the sink, there is liquid hand soap and lotion.
Everything was clean, comfortable, and well thoughtfully set up for guests. Highly recommend Hotel Nell.
This was a cool hotel in a great location. I loved the history of the building and the decor, and the bed was super comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Loved everything about this hotel!!!
No microwave in the room, but there was one in the lobby. To get hot water in the sink, you had to run the shower. Small stuff!
It was clean, light and cozy
The parking was way to expensive and you could hear the other hotel guest and elevator through the door
Loved the atmosphere of the whole place! It wasn't just the cute, funky rooms (neat as a pin), but the hip, cozy, welcoming atmosphere of the staff, the way the foyer was set up; the hallways outside easily accessible elevators... it was the perfect place to stay- AND the price was amazing. My sister in law was going to DC one day after I left, and she paid for ONE NIGHT what I paid for THREE at Hotel Nell. She raised her eyebrows when I told her I booked this hotel- until I showed her the pictures of the cute hotel in a fun area! She was shocked at how gorgeous and chic everything was for the price. And it met my expectations and more when I stayed there. It was also quiet, as everyone there was respectful of the policy of STFU after I think 10 pm. It was really a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone!
The aesthetics were immaculate. The staff was helpful and delightful. The rooms were well cleaned and organized.
No issues.
Wonderful room, comfortable beds and pillows.
For a last minute stay, I liked the location. The staff were great, very friendly, and the room was neat and tidy.
Small spill on the bathroom wall when arrived.
Comfortable room, great breakfast and light dinner on the rooftop
