Great breakfast, fantastic friendly staff, shuttles to ski hills were easy to book and pick up/ drop off from the hotel, great location and walking distance to great restaurants and bars. Loved the dry room for our gear and kelp soup after a big day on the slopes.
A coffee machine in the lobby would have been super handy. And some hooks or more hanging space in the rooms/ bathroom would be helpful.
The location and building architecture.
The carpet were stained and wasn’t clean.
The bed wasn’t too bad. The old part of hotel had very tasty interior design. There are washing machines and dryers available at a small cost inside the hotel, which is a big plus!
We booked this hotel through Booking.com for our family trip: a triple room for my parents and young son, and a double room for my husband and me. What should have been a smooth check-in turned into a nightmare that lasted over an hour, leaving my child and elderly parents exhausted and upset.
At check-in, the staff immediately claimed the amount I’d prepaid was only for two adults total, blaming the entire mix-up on Booking.com. They demanded an additional ~$300 on the spot for the extra guests. I had no choice but to pay immediately to avoid further issues, even though this felt like poor communication between the hotel and the booking platform.
Then came the breakfast fiasco. I’d clearly selected and paid for breakfast-inclusive rates (it was stated in my Booking.com confirmation email), but the staff insisted it wasn’t included and refused to honor it. No apology, no compromise—just flat denial.
The rooms themselves were a huge letdown. Poorly designed, the worst hair dryer I’ve ever used in Japan, and subpar amenities overall. To top it off, the rooms weren’t very clean—there was visible dust all over the towel hanging rails and other surfaces. After staying in at least 15 different hotels across Japan over five visits (in various cities), this was hands-down the worst service and quality I’ve encountered. The staff were unhelpful and dismissive throughout.
Such a shame, as the location in Otaru could have been great. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, especially families. Avoid if you want a reliable, comfortable, and fairly priced stay in Japan
