It is possible that I have been to a worse hotel than el Secreto in my 49 years of professional flying, but if so, I cannot remember it. First of all, the hotels advertisement online is a total misrepresentation. A fabrication. Simply a lie. It is not an all inclusive hotel. It is a very dirty and unsanitary hovel. My bathroom was covered in mold and mildew. No hot water in the sink. No soap. No clothes iron. Toilet would not flush. Unreliable internet. My room had an insect infestation and I was bitten several times during the night. No television. Howling cats roam the halls at night.The “kitchen” is a converted metal oceangoing container set outside in the side yard. On the way to the kitchen you will negotiate dog vomit on the steps and then starving dogs around and inside the container/kitchen. Food was cold and poor quality. I suffered nausea and diarrhea. Trash is piled in areas within 200 feet of el Secreto. Rats and other rodents infest the garbage dumps. I have PHOTOS. HAPPY TO SHARE. I was scheduled for a four night stay on my business trip. I complained to the manager the first morning. He promised a refund the full amount for the remaining three nights. As of this writing, and after several attempts to contact the manager, I have received no refund.

We were informed by the property that our reservation was canceled. I am extremely upset and annoyed. We weren’t informed by Expedia about this “cancellation”.

La gente que hospedan es muy ruidosa y no hay nadie que cuide o ponga orden, no tienen suficiente personal, no hay bebidas, contraté todo incluido y no hay ese servicio, solo desayuno pero a partir de las 7:30 am

Everyone was so nice, welcoming, and hospitable! All the gentlemen and ladies working there are extra helpful and courteous, they really made our stay that much more enjoyable. The food was delicious, all hand made ro order. The hotel is in a perfect spot at the bottom of Bacalar Lagoon, not too far from the city or the Chetumal airport. It's peaceful and clean!

Excellent! Very quiet place with lagoon, friendly and helful staff, padle board and kayak service, breakfast included, restaurant, close to Bacalar town, free inside parking.
Special thanks to Esteban; there was an incident with booking one of our rooms, they worked out to gave us the refund in meals credit 👍

The name is misleading- it suggests you are staying in Bacalar, when in fact you are quite far away! Staff was very helpful but the apartments need a lot of work. Mold and mildew was rampant! Restaurant is overpriced!

Me gusto la ubicación del hotel, un lugar muy íntimo y frente al lago le da un toque especial. El personal es muy atento.

No pudimos dar con el hotel, las calles son brecha, sin alumbrado, la comunicación con el hotel por teléfono no era clara, NO pudimos dar con la entrada al hotel

It was ok but it was one of our one month travelling more expensive hotel we get and it was not the best batheroom doen t have hot water little musty some differente way in the shower clean but not great not easy swimming not really nice to go apperciate in the lagune best to go to bacalar the breakfast included is cheap but good ok but the less it s just near a big electric station who s make an noise all night and like the place are incredible nice view lake three is beautiful sure quiet you here at miles away this noise

The service was great, the food was good, and everyone was kind.

I rally like the property I fell like I was home. The only thing I will add more sighs how to get there

More like camping than a quality hotel. Don't be fooled by the pictures on the internet. Very minimal room with very little space. Complimentary breakfast was fruit and granola (expected more). Extremely hard to find. Frustrating because they changed the name but haven't changed their sign. Extremely overpriced for what you get.
