The cab person at the Kottayam train station did even not recognize the name of the hotel at all. Reportedly he was a senior experienced driver living in Kottayam for many years. Somehow, after a few inquiries, we reached and the name Treebo did not appear in the signage. We were not even sure if this was a Treebo hotel. Access to front desk area was full of obstacles. It was disappointing that the room was in the basement or lower floor although hotel front desk person had told me on phone a couple of days earlier that there is an elevator. We found that there was NO elevator! Both of us are senior citizens with limited mobility and knee and feet problems. It was difficult to climb up and down from the floor where room was located to the lobby area. The stairs were almost pitch dark and stinking. Room itself had stinking smell. The booking system had mentioned that the breakfast would be special, but, it turned out to be totally disappointing. The breakfast area was sultry and hot. There were no fans, no coolers or no air conditioning. There was no staff in the breakfast area and we had to wait to find someone from reception to get inside the breakfast area. That staff told us that they had just roti and egg curry as breakfast! That shocked us. We were expecting at least the usual south Indian items like Idli, Dosa etc. I asked them to get coffee at least and it was disgusting indeed. It was a horrible disappointing stay indeed.
The front desk person could have been honest on phone about the non-availability of lift/elevator. Access to front desk could have been easier. Stairs could have been better lit and devoid of stench. Breakfast could have included items like idli, dosa and other south Indian items. The staff could have been more helpful and supportive
