We didn't have to sleep in our suv, but probably should have and spent the $250 on gasoline!
The bathtub drain was so slow when trying to take a shower, the water was up to the top ready to run on the floor!
I'm waiting for a return call after calling the front office. Also, can't leave a message as voice mail is FULL!!!!
No air conditioning just warm air blowing when turning on the fan!

Shell Beach is that effortlessly hip friend who shows up in sunglasses, hands you a drink, and somehow makes you feel cooler just for being there. It’s laid‑back, stylish, and has that California‑coastal confidence that whispers, “Yeah, I woke up like this.”
The vibe? Very nice. Very hip. Very cool.
Think boutique‑chic meets beach‑town charm, with just enough polish to feel elevated without ever tipping into pretentious.
The pool, however, deserves its own paragraph.
It’s… cozy. Intimate. Socially unavoidable. The kind of pool where you don’t just see the other guests—you learn their kids’ names, their favorite IPA, and the fact that they’re “thinking about getting into pickleball.” It’s less “private oasis” and more “instant community,” but honestly, that’s part of the charm.
Despite the tight splash zone, we genuinely loved our stay. The whole place has a breezy confidence that makes you want to stay longer, sip slower, and pretend you’re the kind of person who casually escapes to the coast on a random weekend.
Verdict: A stylish, memorable stay with personality for days.
Recommendation: Absolutely worth it—just be prepared to make a few new friends by the pool.
Enjoyed the room, comfortable and clean. Pool was a plus and enjoyable.
Location and amenities
Lovely room, quiet area, lovely vibe about the place
Nothing
The place was very clean, and the staff quite nice.
This place is an updated motel, with small rooms around the parking lot. It was fine, but overpriced for what it is. I understand summer is the high season, but it wasn’t worth the price.
Shell Beach Inn was excellent. We will stay here again. The staff was excellent and were very helpful.
Felt entirely misled about the freeway adjacent location of the SBI. The earplugs by the bed in the small dimly lit converted motel room was the final giveaway! The price was too high and I will never return to this poorly situated property.
Love the room, beds were comfy coffee was good shower was nice happened to be busy weekend with the annual Pismo car show so town was hopping, made some new acquaintances everyone was friendly . Heard it could be noisy at night due to the hwy but we did not find this to be true.hope to return and stay again when not so busy but we just went north to Avila and Cayucus and lots of restaurants within walking distance , really didnt want to review and share this gem
Our room was so cute and cozy. The inn is a 5 minute walk to the water and some of the best restaurants. Staff was super friendly and helpful and they have a heated pool.
Our stay at Shell Beach Inn was very comfortable. The area is quiet and yet still near Pismo Pier. Loved the park nearby, walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean and had treats waiting. Had small housekeeping issue, but it was immediately addressed. It was nothing that would keep me from returning. Rates are very affordable. Thank you Shell Beach Inn for giving us a relaxing getaway,
Great stay within walking distance of a few restaurants and ocean views, with very accommodating staff :)
The tide pools near Margo Dodd Park that I booked this location for no longer have access, but other than that great place to stay!
A couple blocks from the beach and Dinasour Park. Very comfortable and the pool was nice. The room was clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable considering the location. Check in was easy and personable.
Front desk staff - informative
Noise from highway. We didnt use the ear plugs provided
We enjoyed the suite at this small family owned motel. Large living room with comfortable sofa. Quaint, but well furnished...even had a small turntable in a suitcase with a stack of LPs, including Elvis and Barbra Streisand. Full sized kitchen appliances. Small pool was warm, but no lounge chairs for laying out. No jacuzzi.
Cozy, comfortable, clean and courteous!
One of the cleanest plays we have stayed. Not super fancy, only 9 or ten units. We stayed in number 3 for 1 night on our south. Not a single complaint
I was expecting a lot based on the reviews but I was overall disappointed. We had zero face to face interaction with the supposedly extra welcoming staff, the suite was not up to my personal standards as the plumbing was leaking, the street noise was bad, the bed was very uncomfortable, and the heat/ac situation was less than ideal. I'm a new parent of a CP student but I'm going to stay elsewhere next time.
