The staff were welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable with good tea and coffee making facilities. The restaurant had a good atmosphere and the food was excellent. Breakfast was also very good. The location was very convenient and the property was easy to find. The property was very dog friendly as well.
It was beautifully presented

Freezing breakfast room…full of smoke…no heat…! no Croissants,no fruit…..cold bedroom…coffee machine temperamental…
Fabulous pub. Arrived at Reception, they were very welcoming, took us to our room and made sure we were happy with everything. We had a lovely meal and a very relaxed evening. Our accommodation was brilliant, clean and very imaginatively thought out.
Breakfast was delicious.
If we're back in the area we'll definately book again and will definately recommend to all our family and friends.

The lion at Malpas was such a warm an inviting place to stay, the rooms was lovely and cosy with everything you needed. The pub had a wonderful Sunday Roast, Steak and burgers and I would highly recommend eating here. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar staff done some lovely cocktails.

Lovely pub restaurant with excellent food and friendly staff. Well decorated, well-stocked, comfortable rooms at the Inn with safe, free parking - very convenient for a short stay when travelling.
PUB: Although staff were very friendly, they seemed inexperienced or not particularly well trained. Small oversights in restaurant service (e.g. pot of tea served without milk, no cutlery or salt & pepper on the breakfast table, dirty plates & cups not cleared) slightly tarnished the otherwise aesthetically pleasing, warm, and comfortable pub restaurant experience. The chef deserves a special mention, though, as the food quality at dinner and breakfast was excellent.
ROOMS: Staff inexperience and an apparent inattention to detail or lack of oversight on the accommodation side of the business showed most here. There is no obvious reception area for check-in or check-out. The restaurant staff have to attend to you in between their busy food service duties. When booking, I specifically requested a room with a bath and to check in an hour early, so that we could rest immediately after enjoying lunch at the pub (as I explained in detail in my written request). An automated response on the Booking.com platform simply pointed to an additional £10 per hour booking fee for early check-in, not addressing my specific request. In the end, we stopped for a long lunch elsewhere on our trip down to Malpas to delay our arrival until the official check-in time, instead of our preferred option of enjoying lunch at The Lion Pub and retiring to our room immediately after lunch to rest. On arrival just after the official check-in time of 15:00, there was no longer a room with a bath available - my request had clearly not been read or considered. We were left with the uncomfortable choice of either twin beds or a shower, instead of a double bed (labelled as a King bed on the Booking.com platform) with a bath, as requested - further hampering our desire for a rejuvenating afternoon rest on our travels.
We enjoyed the location and beauty of the buildings and courtyard. The pub restaurant is also very lovely in decor!
Our sink was clogged unfortunately. We also found the food to be sub par for dinner (chips cold, burger menu outline not what the burger was given) but the breakfast was much better.
Lovely hotel and location. Friendly staff.
