A place to call home.
The first feeling we had after arriving at this fantastic hotel was that the people working there truly love their jobs. They welcomed us with open hearts right away. Throughout our stay, the staff were very helpful and gave us great advice on what to do in Ella and even in the nearby areas around the hotel.
We had a fantastic stay and celebrated New Year’s Eve with a lovely party and fabulous food. The Sri Lankan dishes on the restaurant menu are excellent, and it is a wonderful experience to try them.
The rooms were clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The small traditional tea house located in the garden was a special place to find peace and harmony.
A place for complete relaxation away from hustle and bustle of city life. Amazing scenic views from all around the hotel and view points. View from the huge swimming pool is breathtaking. The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious, specially the local breakfast.
This NOT a 4 star hotel. Even the staff confirmed that. The room was tiny, no space at all and you have to open the shower doors to sit comfortably on the toilet. The bed has a pedestal on one side and the other is flush against the cupboard. There are plug point/ power outlets on the cupboard where your head rests.
The hotel is situated far away from the Town of Ella. However the location is set in beautiful surroundings of nature. The menu is limited and you have to make your choices on arrival.
There staff were very apologetic and were kind and courteous.
What a lovely place! Great team of people and Laheer makes it extra special. We were welcomed with traditional drink and snack. The room was lovely and they made us feel extra special by decorating it for our honeymoon ❤️ you have to book a meal and serving time, but thats ok. The food was great. They let us meet the dogs they ‘look after’. Breaks my heart the tragic situation with stray dogs in sri lanka. So at least these few beautiful dogs are safe. They need to be neutered! And have vet visits. 🙏🏻 but they are safe.
Our Guide didnt stay with us this time. His accommodation was a metal storage box!
The property is old and in need of complete renovation.
Dinner and breakfast are limited, but feature local products cooked to order and of excellent quality.
The reception and restaurant staff are exceptionally courteous and responsive to guests' requests. WELL DONE!
From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was simply wonderful. The staffs are truly exceptional—they made me feel right at home and took care of every detail with genuine warmth.
The property itself is a little slice of paradise as several beautiful peacocks were flying around. It's a place that will always hold a part of my heart. And yeah, totally forgot to ask the name of the manager, sitting by the pool, you're probably one of the most spectacular people I've ever met. Thank you.
Our room was spacious ,clean and comfortable with a big balcony with a stunning view. The food was delicious and fresh. The food from the Al carte menu was served in large portions. However the best aspect of this hotel were the staff. They always smile at you and their service was beyond any of our expectations. They were always very energetic and helpful from reception to the room service, to restaurant and to the bar. They went out of their way to provide us with the best experience. We highly recommend this hotel.
P.S don’t forget to try their beli mal drink with Sri Lankan sweets and wade.
The location is stunning - hence the 2 stars. The room was spacious and we had a duplex apartment with balcony. The staff were ok - they did try to charge us more for our room than we had secured to pay for it through Booking.com when we did arrive and this set the scene for our stay.
The food was average - evening meals have to be ordered 45 minutes in advance of arriving in the restaurant and these were clearly shipped in via Uber from a restaurant in Ella itself.
The breakfast was something I would have expected in the 1980’s in a 2 star establishment in Eastern Europe before tourism started
The best part of our stay was the location and views - the sound of animals and birds in the evening and morning were awesome. But, even our driver said this was the worst place he had ever taken someone to.
Hotel accommodation was very nice and staff amazing. Manager was gracious to guests. Gave us drinks and enjoyed wonderful conversations. Enjoyed the buffet and had gluten and dairy free options
Staying one night here was an experience I can never forget. The rooms, the food, the pool is nice and unique. The members here, especially Laheer, was amazing.
Superb location with excellent staff and good amenities. Restaurant reception and all other staff very helpful and ready to help we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend them and visit again
Enjoyed the rooftop sunrise
A great hotel in the hills close to Ella.
The hotel is exactly as it shows on the Internet,
the hot water worked, the AC worked, there was workable internet, the bed was comfortable, they served cold Beer and the restaurant food was good unfortunately I’ve found out that this is not automatic in Srilanka these days. There even was good driver accommodation
The room was amazing overlooking the infinity pool. If you want spectacular views there is no area of the hotel that doesn’t have a view. They even have a viewing deck on the roof for sunrises and sunsets.
We used the restaurant for all our meals and it really didn’t disappoint. Their Chicken Kottu was better than any that we’ve tried throughout Srilanka.
Service was impeccable and the free driver quarters for my driver was apparently very decent and they offered a very good breakfast lunch and dinner for him. The internet was the best we had in all the 2 weeks touring.
A Wonderful Stay at MOI Hotel Ella – Truly Memorable! 🤗
We have just returned from a 2-night stay at MOI Hotel Ella, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. Everything was beyond our expectations, and we’d love to share a few highlights:
📍 Location
Perfectly located with easy access to Ella town and nearby attractions, yet tucked away enough to offer peace and quiet with stunning views of the surrounding hills. Ideal for a relaxing getaway.
🙏 Warm Welcome & Service
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with herbal tea and delicious local bites, which were fresh and full of flavor.
The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel at home throughout our stay.
A special mention goes to the General Manager, who was attentive, welcoming, and took the time to recommend activities in the area.
🍽 Food
The food was absolutely delicious!
While the menu isn’t overly large, the hotel focuses on seasonal ingredients and supports local farmers, which we really appreciated. You can taste the care and quality in every dish.
🛏 Room & Facilities
Our room was clean, cozy, and offered breathtaking views of the Ella hills.
One of the biggest highlights was the large swimming pool – not something you often find in this area – making it great for both couples and families with kids.
💬 Final Thoughts
MOI Hotel Ella is a hidden gem and a place we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Ella.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape or a relaxing family stay, this place has something special to offer.
We can’t wait to come back again! 💚

The location of hotel is good, the staff is friendly. The view from rooms and hotels is superb. A great infinity pool. The place is at a distance from ella. The hotel.issurrounded by forest from all sides and this makes the place interesting.
Worth a rating 4 plus... very friendly staff
Excellent swimming pool
Enjoyable bar area
Good breakfast
The mangroves Gerry (spelling?) was very happy to engage in conversation and is very keen to ensure everyone enjoys the experience.
All of the team are attentive and helpful
The hotel middle of the forest above the mountain with peace and amazing view and a 15minute to walk to the temple ....with great foods and staff , Since we arrived until we left Sahiru answered alll our questions helped us with a smile he is amazing ... The hotel should be among the city's attractions in the middle of
If you’re looking for a peaceful and tranquil stay then Moi Ella is the place! We had such a lovely & relaxing stay here. The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive, we were greeted with some tea and delicious coconut pancake on arrival which was just what we needed after a long drive. The breakfast and dinner was also amazing. The hotel offers 360 views of the beautiful hills and mountains of Ella, and you can even head up to the top floor to catch sunrise - we did this one morning and it was absolutely breathtaking!!
If you’re looking to stay in/near Ella then you might want to find somewhere closer to the town as this hotel is about a 30 minute drive out of town so you’ll need transport. We didn’t mind though as we loved how peaceful and secluded the hotel was :)
This is not even close to a 4 star hotel.
Dirty, desolate, outdated & in disrepair, I strongly recommend to avoid at all costs.
The scenery is beautiful albeit a very remote location, so if you are looking for convenience to central attractions, this is not ideal.
The accommodation looks nothing like what is advertised, there is no ambience whatsoever & is absolutely not worth the money charged.
There was no choice but to eat in on our first & only night there but this lacked in quality & flavour.
Overall, an incredibly disappointing experience.
Stunning hotel set high in the mountains offering amazing views. Staff were exceptionally polite and attentive. Room was reasonable size and offered balcony with incredible view over pool and mountains. Breakfast was very good and evening meal was good. The hotel is a little dated and disconnected but the vast pool, stunning views and great staff more than make up for its decor. They also helped book rail tickets which were proving a challenge so thank you.
This hotel is basic. No duvet in the room, apparently you have to request one. Nice welcome tea and some local snacks while waiting to check in but beware there are still mosquitoes around despite the cooler temperature. I got bitten twice whilst waiting to check in. I was put on the ground floor with a view of the car park which was disappointing given the incredible views on offer of Ella from the rooms higher up. They have a swimming pool from what I can tell is a bit cold! The omelette at breakfast was good and they found me some green tea when I asked for it. The buffet at dinner was ok and included slices of pizza. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all I imagine this hotel offers great views but it is way too far out from the centre of Ella so if you plan to go into town in the evening you’re looking at paying around 5,000 rupees for a taxi to take you, wait there for you and bring you back. So unless you’re there for a specific reason I’d stay closer to all the shops and bars in town.
