Warm welcome to an extraordinary place with crazy characterful decor, very comfortable.
Pros:

A fabulously characterful place, the creation of the artist proprietor.

Cons:

I would have preferred a bath rather than shower in the bathroom, which some rooms have.

Exceptionnal stay - will definitely return there.
Pros:

Especially loved the interior decoration of the guest house. Philippe, the host, gave us a warm welcome, made restaurant suggestions, wonderful breakfast with everything you could like to start a perfect day. This exceptionnal place with it’s parklike backyard must be a dream in summer.

Really enjoyed the slightly bohemian atmosphere.
Pros:

Characterful decor by the artist owner. Bathroom has a great bathtub. Very friendly reception from the proprietor. I had to skip breakfast as I was in a hurry, but it looked great, everyone sitting round a nice big dining table. Will certainly stay there again.

Cons:

Location isn’t the best, but it’s worth going there as it’s quite special.

une halte parfaite dans une maison de rêve.
Pros:

une maison de maître comme une maison de rêve, à la décoration à la fois chaleureuse et contemporaine, avec un goût très sur. L'hôte est prévenant et passionné. Le petit déjeuner était délicieux, à la fois sucré et salé. idéal pour sillonner la région.

Absolutely brilliant place to stay and the polar opposite of chain hotels. Great value too.
Pros:

Location was what we wanted i.e. Valenciennes and near (15 minute walk) to the station for trains into Lille. Parking on the site is plentiful and very secure
Quiet in the house and garden despite being on a main road. Everything about the place was delightful. The building itself, the artwork and decor, the garden. Shower and bathroom facilities (room 3) are very good. Bed very good. The breakfast was great and the host/owner Philippe was so helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable.
Thoroughly recommend Le Grand Duc, if you like an old style building with a modern and creative approach to the decor and a very welcoming and comfortable approach from the host.

Cons:

Signage for the hotel on the road was difficult to see so we drove past it the first time.

We loved everything else.

Accès facile, chambre confortable et bien équipée.
Les 2 personnes qui m’ont accueilli (le soir à mon arrivée ou le matin lors du petit déjeuner et Check out) furent très agréables. Je recommande.
