Pros:

Central location, the hotel was clean and great service.

Cons:

I felt the rate per night stay was a bit expensive. For travellers travelling by train or bus in the late evening, this could be an issue.

Everything was absolutely outstandig.
Pros:

We specifically booked the AJ Grand Hotel in Mangalore because we were so impressed by the Ranjitha Palace Hotel in Udupi. Both hotels belong to the AJ Group. The AJ Grand in Mangalore is equally well-managed; the staff is consistently attentive and kind, and the rooms are excellent. Everything is clean and well-maintained.
Just like the one in Udupi, the hotel’s vegetarian restaurant is sensational. All in all, it is a first-class hotel with a value for money that is hard to beat. We originally planned only a short stay in Udupi and Mangaluru, but thanks in no small part to these two great AJ Group hotels, we ended up staying two and a half weeks in Udupi and one and a half weeks in Mangaluru.

The female receptionist was great. The male manager treated me badly.

As a solo white woman traveller I got really bad rooms, next to list, across from household, under the disco. I had to change rooms four times.

Pros:

Reception greeting was warm. The manager was extremely helpful helping me get a taxi and also trying to help to get a Sim card which by the way in the state of Mangalore is almost impossible to get one unless you actually personally know somebody that lives there as they don’t accept your hotel as good enough , to give you a Sim card I mean an Indian SIM card, which presents quite a lot of problems for the tourist. I don’t know why it’s different rules in this state to GOA because when I got to GOa. I went straight to the Airtel office (offshoot office)I should say , I’ve got one as usual with no problem at all. No need to know anybody in India there.! I like the room and the view over the palm trees. It was a quiet room. You couldn’t open the windows and there was no balcony but the view was very nice. The bathroom was good. The restaurant attached to the hotel is very nice food.

Cons:

The waiter in the restaurant was very rude when he got the drink wrong and there was loads of sugar in it. It described it as a three different natural juices which I’ve been looking forward to on room service but room service only goes to about midnight so when I ordered it in the restaurant I was expecting three beautiful juices of natural healthy but it came absolutely loaded with sugar so I said to it was wrong it didn’t say it had sugar on the menu and it wasn’t very nice at all. He wouldn’t change it to give me my money back and he was glaring at me.
The breakfast was plentiful many different things but they might do better to focus on less things and do them better. I think there was natural yoghurt which I liked and fruits which I would’ve liked and probably some Indian breakfast which I think was included in the price which made it quite a good deal, which I also quite liked, but it wasn’t terribly exciting . The coffee was not as good as in the restaurant .
