We had high hopes for our stay at Arenal Roca Lodge, but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and concerning from the moment we arrived. Within just two hours of checking in, our room was overtaken by a swarm of large flying ants, especially in the bathroom, rendering it completely unusable.

We initially tried to remain optimistic despite spotting lizards and other bugs in the room. However, the situation became unacceptable when one of us was bitten by a gecko. We reported the issue to the front desk right away, and a maintenance worker was sent to remove a large number of insects—confirming just how uninhabitable the room had become.

We felt unsafe and extremely uncomfortable, and ultimately had to leave and find alternative accommodations that same night, paying out of pocket. The conditions were clearly unsuitable for guests, and we’ve since requested a full refund directly from the property.

This was a deeply disappointing experience, and we hope the lodge takes serious steps to improve the safety and cleanliness of their rooms going forward.

Large, clean, comfortable rooms with a great view at a great price. Close to everything, delicious breakfast.

The team is fantastic, well educated, always ready to assist with a smile. The facilities needs some repairs and upgrades for sure. It does not reflect the price at all. They were kept clean at all times, which is really appreciated. Loved the breakfast and we wouldn’t mind having a social area where guests could share the stories of the day. Like a small bar at the dinning area. The views were fantastic, really good.

Beautiful view of the volcano through big room windows. The rest is basic no frills. The breakfast was great! We also took advantage of the massages available right in your room for a reasonable price.

The views of the volcano and the peace of the surrounding mountains. This place is perfect for people who want adventures but some quiet and calm time at night.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was above and beyond (atleast Blaz and Nazareth) Super pleasant, helpful and quick. The view of the Arenal Volcano was breathtaking from my room. Excursions were less than 15 minutes away. Cute little ducks be sitting outside the restaurant/lobby everyday.

We really enjoyed our stay here! We stayed 4 nights, and our stay was so peaceful and beautiful with a view of the volcano! We had an issue with bugs in our room, I assume this was due to a small crack in the wood boards of the walls. The staff is so friendly, and they were so helpful and explained the area too. My only other complaint was that they ask you what time you want to have breakfast each day, but you have to check in and then wait 15 minutes for them to get it to you, so just be prepared to wait a bit. Overall we loved it and would stay here again!

View was excellent!!! The property was beautiful. Pool was closed but we weren't told that, so we hiked over there and had to hike back. Otherwise it was a great time

We booked in the cabins/villas and our room overlooked the Arenal volcano! The room was MASSIVE, very clean, modern bathroom, and the bed was comfortable. If you are going to either Arenal and/or La Fortuna, stay HERE. There are regular rooms in the hotel building, but the extra bit for the cabin was the best.

The free breakfast was delicious, plentiful, and cooked to order. The WiFi worked well. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and spoke enough English to do the job.

Shout out to Restaurant 1 block away - Raul Castano - fabulous dinner also facing the volcano.

We were there 3 nights and several times we requested the room to be cleaned and it never was, which is especially important due to the requirement to put toilet paper in the bin. Our toilet was not working properly and they never fixed it. The walls are very thin and neighbors and the road were noisy.

The view of Arenal from our room was unbelievable! We were lucky because it was not shrouded in clouds and it felt like we could reach out and touch it! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating; the breakfast was delicious.

Our room has a great view of Arenal mountains. The property is close to excursion points and great restaurants in the area.

My rating is this low only because I cannot select zero stars. I booked two rooms and a theft occurred in our room while staying in the Lodge. Someone, with a key, went in while we were out, opened a suitcase and stole jewelry. We spoke with another guest and the same thing happened to his wife at approximately the same time. We both complained to the manager and she said to "file a police report" before they would investigate. We both did and the police came and questioned the manager. She denied the theft even occurred. Our follow up with her received a blatant denial and refusal to even question her housekeeping staff.

If you value your security and safety, I caution you to think again before staying at the Arenal Roca Lodge & Bungalows.
