This is one of those hotels where you stay for the experience of feeling like you live in a vintage Victorian mansion. It is first a museum and second a hotel. There are so many cool and unique features to see, to read about and to just "feel throughout the property." Be sure to ask about the hidden speakeasy! The suites are expansive with views looking out to the Missouri River. The tall ceilings, vintage hardwood floors and large windows almost made it feel like a house instead of a hotel room. The bathrooms are also huge with beautiful claw-foot tubs. Antique furniture in the rooms is perfect. Ours did have a TV and a mini fridge which came in handy. The train station is within a stone's throw so you will get trains that run by in the middle of the night. We found it charming and it's only 2-3 times a night. Location puts you right in the heart of downtown. You can just walk out the back and go explore. There is a great coffee shop offering breakfast and lunch about 200 feet away and plenty of restaurants and shops to enjoy. There is even an ice cream joint next to the coffee shop. Keep in mind the rooms are up on the second floor so you do have to hike up a flight of stairs to get to them.
Honestly, there is nothing we did not like. We knew we were staying in an old hotel without all the modern amenities one typically thinks of so our expectations were very well met. if I had to critique anything, the bathroom down on the main level of the hotel could use better lighting.
it was in a beautiful historic hotel with lots of history!
nothing, it was beautiful
Absolutely stunning, the meticulous details and luxe 1860’s authentic furnishings were so over the top in the best way. This place is literally a museum so you can explore the other floors and hallways at your whim. There were few guests so the entire place feels like your own. We truly felt transported back in time. The hidden Jesse James speakeasy was so freaking cool. The quiet creak of the old wooden floors going up the stairs, and the soft glow of gas lamp style fixtures, with priceless antiques on every wall just elevated the whole stay. The copper soaking tub was unbelievable. I have stayed at a lot of places around the world and this is one of the best experiences ever. If you’re on the fence just do it already!!!!
From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcomed. The beauty and boutique feel of the hotel were simply amazing. Our bridal suite, beautifully done in pink, was stunning, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. and the location was close to many of the things we wanted to do. We will be back again!
Nothing, we really didn't have any complaints.
Mostly a museum. History was fabulous!
No elevator. We were on 3rd floor.
Loved it! We will definitely return
It’s a room in a museum. So much cool history. A great location close to everything in Hermann. The host gave us a short tour of the property and offered complimentary drinks. Be warned, the walls are a bit thin to outside noise but a fan helped mitigate it
Wonderful historic hotel with notes to read about past events. It can really help you imagine the 1800s, since it was lovingly restored with the goal of looking just like it did. Laurie was kind, helpful and thoughtful too. Room stayed cool and we enjoyed passing trains. Easy to walk around town with dining options and you could walk to it from the Amtrak station. The only suggestion would be to have a hanger or 2 in the room and maybe some bottles of water, although the room had a glass bottle filled with water in the room fridge, a Keurig, and some other drinks complimentary downstairs. Really lovely stay and no complaints. Hermann is a neat town and we felt safe.
We were the only guests in the hotel. There was no room service, house keeping. Yes it had the charm of being an 18th century hotel which was nice. But not worth the $500+ that I paid for 2 nights. We were disappointed!
This hotel is a museum of the guest house from the end of 19th century. absolutely unique and unforgettable experience.
Loved that it is like staying in a museum. Loved the atmosphere and everything about the White House Hotel.
Beautiful unique hotel with a lot of character and history. Very close to train track.
The staff was wonderful. Helpful about the area sites to see and explained the history of the hotel.
Understood due to keeping historically but an elevator would be nice for checking in and out.
Very nice place to stay. The biggest plus was our personal attention for our needs. The room had a view of the park and river. Extremly clean and well taken care of. The train does come right by but I personally love the sound of the train with no horn. Its just like stepping back in time as you are staying in a museum.
The White House is a wonderfully restored 1800s hotel. Very clean and comfortable. The manager Laurie was amazing. Our trip was a 14th wedding anniversary celebration. Laurie graciously took care of every detail for me including special flowers and a bottle of wine ready at our arrival.
We were traveling by train so the hotel being one block from the station was nice. We would definitely return.
Wonderful place. Our hostess was friendly & helpful. Made certain we could check in early. Gave us easy access to all the amenities.
The hotel is a period masterpiece & nicely done. You will feel like you are in the early 1800's, except of course you will have climate control (A/C & heating)
Loved our stay.
This is such a unique property, and feels like you're going back in time. Most of the property is preserved as it was in the late 19th century, yet the rooms have plenty of electrical outlets and good air conditioning. Plus easy access to the bike trails, wineries, restaurants, and downtown shopping. We will definitely be back.
My husband and I stayed for one night during the week and had the entire hotel to ourselves. The hotel was built in 1868 and has lots of history to read about with displays throughout the building. Our room, the bridal suite, was so cute and cozy. It was very convenient for us because it was across from the train station, and we used the Amtrak train to travel to Hermann. If you're a light sleeper, you might not like hearing the trains passing by in the middle of the night, but the hotel was kind enough to provide earplugs and a noise machine.
Could not have found a better place to stay. Hospitality was fantastic! Enjoyed hearing the history of the hotel.
