This B&B is truly lovely — the setting is peaceful, the rooms are charming, and we initially felt very welcome. In fact, despite deciding to leave two nights early (purely for personal reasons), we were still prepared to leave a 5-star review.

However, our experience took a turn when we informed the owners of our early departure. We did not ask for a refund or any compensation, yet the atmosphere noticeably changed. The owner, Ruud, made a point of telling us that only one other guest had ever left early and implied he was foolish for not reading about the terrain in advance. As someone with some mobility issues, I found his comments quite uncomfortable and unnecessary — especially since we were not complaining or requesting anything.

We also mentioned that we had mistakenly opened a bottle of wine from the honesty bar, thinking it was possible to have a glass. Only after opening it did we realise it was charged by the bottle. Of course, we paid the full €15, but considering we forfeited two nights (and two breakfasts) without complaint, we were surprised that wasn’t taken into account. We were told we could take the rest of the bottle with us, but declined — it just wasn’t the point.

This is a beautiful place with potential for a great stay, but the reaction to our perfectly polite decision to leave early left a sour impression.

Vréneli, Ruud, Estrella and Estela couldn’t have been better hosts.

This is a fabulous space to relax in mountains of Andalusia, after an hour or so driving from Málaga airport. We hired a car from the airport and were glad to have chosen an automatic with a little more power than the average entry level rental car. The drive is fairly straightforward from Málaga Airport.

By all accounts there are some amazing hikes, although the purpose of our trip was to switch off and relax as much as possible, and we had no intention of doing anything active.

It’s tough to beat a delightful breakfast, freshly prepared and beautifully presented by Estela or Estrella, either looking towards La Maroma (the highest peak of the Sierra de Tejeda) or, from the other side of the table, down the valley to the Mediterranean Sea. Made better still with quality coffee, (and Cava’s always an option).

Both Estrella and Estela were very patient with our extremely rudimentary Spanish conversations and have great local knowledge. Estrella very kindly made dinner reservations for us each night at different restaurants around Cómpeta, a short drive away. Our favourites were El Cortico Paco and for accommodating dietary requirements, the staff at El Pámpano were particularly helpful.

We have already recommended Málaga Hills to friends and colleagues since returning home.

Me and my girlfriend had a very pleasant time at Malaga hills. The hosts and staff are amazing people. It’s possible to choose out of a variety of different activities to make your stay as smooth and calmly as possible. You decide to make a Yoga lesson in the morning? Just let the staff via WhatsApp know and they arrange everything needed. Malaga Hills is located in a very beautiful place surrounded by hills, nature and lovely little villages like Cómpeta or Canillas de Albaida. So if you like to calm down from stress or just need a relaxing time, this is the perfect stay.

Fantastic stay, with unbelievable views in a peaceful location with lots of nature, but also easy access to Competa and great restaurants in the vicinity. Ruud, Vreneli and the team are great hosts. I can also highly recommend the massage by Isabel.

Aan een doodlopende weg, de Spaanse bouwstijl, het uitgebreide ontbijt wat met liefde is bereid, een fenomenaal uitzicht, zeer grote en comfortabele kamers met alle luxe die je verwacht en meer! Rustige locatie, Cómpeta is een gezellig dorp op 5 min met de auto, waar je heerlijk kan dineren. De persoonlijke touch van de eigenaren maken het tot een B&B waar je je meer dan welkom voelt!

Beautiful place! The location is stunning and the hotel itself is lovely with a relaxed vibe and wonderful breakfasts. The optional extra of yoga in the morning was a great addition.
The owners and staff are so kind and friendly, they give great recommendations about what to do/where to eat (no lunch/evening meals in the accommodation itself).
We booked very last minute and had a couple of travel issues, but via their handy WhatsApp communication they were incredibly accommodating for us.
We booked the smallest room but this was still plenty big enough and the main shared terrace space is perfect. As the hotel has only a few rooms we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves at times!

The perfect setting for a relaxing break. The hosts, Ruud and Vreinle, along with their team, are attentive to all your needs.

Malaga Hills is built into the mountains overlooking the coast. There are only 5 bedrooms, so the standard of service is maximum.

Looking out from the balcony in our room were peerless views of the mountains and the pretty, whitewashed village of Cómpeta.

We did yoga on our first morning, on an outdoor terrace.

Breakfast is served on the terrace by the pool and honesty bar.

There’s a sumptuous library, also hosting a massage chair for relaxing after a day of hiking.

There’s an extensive directory of hiking routes.

The food in the local restaurants is generous, inexpensive (by UK standards) and Ruud will recommend and make reservations for you.

We are so relaxed after our mini break here, that we wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Sehr ruhig gelegen in einer Sackgasse mit Blick auf die Berge - ganz toll zum Runterkommen.
Zimmer: individuell und einfach eingerichtet, ausreichend groß, Nespresso-Maschine- Kapseln werden jeden Tag nachgefüllt.
Frühstück: kontinentales Frühstück um 09:30 Uhr, Estella bereitet das Frühstück liebevoll mit Sekt zu und man kann sich alles nachbestellen. Wenig Abwechslung bei Wurst und Käse , kein frisches Brot, wenig Obst.
Infrarotkabine und Massagesessel sind super. Yogakurse können für 15 Euro pro Stunde gebucht werden.
Poolabdeckung mussten wir selbst abziehen und Liegen mussten wir selbst herrichten.
Supermarkt und einige Restaurants im Dorf vorhanden (ca. 20 Minuten zu Fuß). Mietwagen empfehlenswert.
Preis -/Leistung nicht so gut!

Virkelig dejligt B&B med lækker champagne morgenmad. Ingen børn og meget få værelser, hvilket gør, at man nemt kommer til at snakke med de andre par. Skønt værtspar, der altid kommer og snakker til morgenmaden og sørger for, at alle får gode fifs til, hvad man kan lave i løbet af dagen. Hotellet ligger for enden af en meget stejl bakke, så enten skal man køre op, eller også skal man ikke være gangbesværet

Lovely small friendly boutique hotel in the town of Competa. With a steep hill to climb each night if you’re up for a walk rather than a drive!
Great hosts. Always helpful & accommodating.
Breakfast is continental style, massive croissants! Ladies who prepare & serve are lovely.
Honesty bar for drinks.
Seems people use as a base more than to chill out. Great location for hiking & exploring.
Town of Competa deceivingly larger than looks so keep walking up the steps & slopes! Limited English spoken but menus are in English.
We would definitely go back, had a lovely few days.

Exceptional hosts and atmosphere.

Mycket fint B&B. Kändes som allt ingick, gym, bibliotek, dator, frukost med personlig service. Rummet var nytt och fräscht, välstädat och mysigt inrett. Toppklass!
