The service was fantastic. All the staff were so lovely and friendly. The food was delicious. 100% will see me again! Stayed for some drinks afterwards with my friends to carry on the night. If you haven’t already been, I highly recommend going especially in the evening.
Wanted to have drinks on the terrace but despite plenty of non reserved tables available was told that we could only have drinks if we ordered food.
This business has recently reopened again and we we very surprised that they would turn away custom at 5 pm on a Sunday in October. We walked in into sandgate to another establishment that was happy to accept our custom.
During the pandemic, hotel cancelled my 2 nights booking for April 2020. I have tried to get in touch through phone leaving countless voice messages, emails and Booking.com. They never got back to me nor refund the money. This is really bad!
Excellent service good food rooms were clean and comfortable service in bar was excellent as well will be going back
The hotel has only recently reopened and has a few teething problems but has great potential.
We had a sea facing room with a lovely little balcony. When we booked I was told that the room was newly opened and it showed on a few areas. That was reflected in the price. The location is superb and we arrived on a Saturday c 3 pm, check in time, and had no issues parking.
The bar at the front of the hotel, with outside seating, is a great space to relax and have a drink.
We spoke to the owner and was assured that the issues will soon be rectified. As we have friends in the area we will return.
Great location - opposite the water
Friendly staff
Amazing coffee
Great deco
Enjoyed my stay however it was at the beginning of the Coronavirus so not all services were available but I’ll definitely be going back when things calm down.
Owner was very accommodating and Fonze the resident dog was gorgeous 💖
We had to go to Folkestone for a funeral. After looking on the website, very few hotels took dogs, so decided to book this hotel, as they were pet friendly.
On the website it said it did bed & breakfast, and also did evening meals. We arrived in bright sunshine and we were pleasantly impressed.
Luke ,who was on reception was very helpful, but surprised he didn’t show us to our room, just gave us our room key and told us where to go.
The room was warm, with a sea view, and sufficient.
After bringing our luggage in,I decided to take our dog for a walk.
On my return Luke told us there was no food available that evening, and that there was no chef, & for the whole time we were there.
We went to a local pub the first night ,and had a take away the following evening.
The breakfasts were adequate, but not inspiring.
This hotel could be so good ,if there was more variety available, with the choice of fresh fruit, fruit juice, porridge, yoghurt, cereals, cooked breakfast, toast and marmalade/jams.
Table set up for you with table cloths, butter, sugar, and serviettes would make it so much better.
It’s all down to detail, to bring back the customer. We unfortunately would not return as there was not enough shown.
I do hope they learn from my review.
We stayed here last year for a wedding nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is available on a first come first served basis on the esplanade, though in summer it is difficult to park close to the hotel.
I book hotels for employees who are working around the country. I always look for places that say they have parking and food as employees sometimes get in late evening. When they got there: No Parking, No Food and the bed mattresses sunk to the floor. They asked if they could change to rooms with a balcony, very happy to pay a little extra for this. They where told No they would have to pay the full amount for a room again. Embarassing for me as I expect our employees to at least have a comfortable bed. One to avoid in the future when they are next in the area. Dont advertise what you dont have.
Haven't been here for a couple of years as I've been away...
However on my return I have found the same warmth and hospitality you always receive at a small well run boutique Hotel in charming Sandgate.
People are always so quick to criticise and make snide remarks without knowing a story...
Been coming to Sandgate forever and the Sandgate Hotel terrace has been used for late boozy lunches, early bloody mary breakfasts and long lazy afternoons. It's the perfect place in the village to meet up with friends and watch the weather roll in, and the sun move around the sky. Yep it isn't perfect, but it has a management team who really care and do their very best for each and every customer.
It is what it is, but for a few beers in the sun looking at the sea in the middle of winter with friendly staff... how bad?

Took the family, just us 5, for Christmas lunch, food was excellent, staff very professional, enjoyed every moment, apart from one obnoxious man, on table near us, complaining about everything, including the dessert spoons, seriously, get a life, well done sandgate hotel,
We stayed here 5 years ago and the hotel was basic but nice. Had a nice bar area and breakfast room. We returned a few weeks ago, booked in on a Saturday night and the experience was very different. We had our 12 year old son with us and had booked the family room. While we were having a drink in the reception / bar area at 5pm a 'Deliveroo' driver had come down to the reception area and told the gentleman / owner ? that there were 2 men smoking drugs in the room next to ours. We had actually seen these men go to their room as they had passed us and they looked as though they were high at 11.00am that morning ! Instead of dealing with it as you would expect, the gentleman did nothing and did not even knock on the door to see what was going on. We obviously could not stay there and were not happy to have our son stay in that environment. When I told the gentleman that we would not be staying - he apologised but then said 'I wish you had told me earlier that you wouldn't be staying !' Please avoid. Such a shame as used to be a lovely hotel but now feels like it is in decline
We came in on a rainy, stormy, windy night. We did not know where to park a car but took a chance by parking in back, which ended up to be the place. They only have 3 parking spots! We checked in and got settled in our room. We went down to the bar/restaurant which is also the hotel lobby (one big room). We ordered food which was average but certainly nothing to complain about. We also had drinks. The beer was very good but the gin and tonics were amazing! Our room was clean and comfortable. We were only there for 1 night but loved this place. Wish the weather would have been nicer so we could have enjoyed the lovely outdoor dining area in front, overlooking the sea. The staff was super friendly and we immediately felt welcomed and special. Thank you so much!
We have just returned from a week at the sandgate hotel. We had read many reviews before we went, and I have to say after reading some of them We felt like we may have made the wrong choice. However we couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay, the rooms were good not high class luxury but clean and pleasant. The views were amazing, the road a little noisy but for the view it was worth it. The food was very nice, well cooked and enjoyable our only comment on this is that there was not a lot of choice on the dinner menu, and during the week they offered no lunch time menu, but apart from this the food we had was lovely. There was an extensive range on the breakfast menu and again plenty of food and very nice. The. Staff were all lovely and very accommodating, we had booked a twin room and asked if it could be changed to a balcony room and despite being nearly full they moved things around for us so we could have a balcony room, this was much appreciated. The staff were pleasant and courteous, they were very busy and worked very hard but nothing was too much trouble. You won’t find 5 star luxury but this is reflected in the price we had a good week for a reasonable rate, We had a pleasant stay and I’d like to reassure anyone that is considering booking that this is a very good hotel.
only stayed one night ok for the money we paid, the bedrooms are in need of a makeover, downstairs was lovely, all the staff were friendly especially the night porter, the breakfast was lovely. in a nice location overlooking the sea and a short walk to the shops
Brief stay. Hotel helpful getting a couple of rooms close together and with late check-in and early check-out
Basic but all you need... bed ok... bathroom generous size and actually lots of space to open out towels to dry on a rail! Unusual!
All fine - was quiet location and handy for ferry ports!
Booked a one night stay on our way back from the south of France. OMG do not book this horrible, dirty, disgusting hotel!!
The whole place was filthy, from the blinds on the windows going upstairs, which were covered in about 3 inches of dust, to the room we were given.
The bedding looked like it had not been washed for months, there was mould on the light shade hanging above the bed, no headboard only a dirty, stained, filthy wall behind the bed, not to mention the state of the mattress with springs poking through.
The carpet had numerous stains and looked like it needed a good hoover, thick dust on the furniture too.
The window was all damp with condensation and you could hear and feel the wind coming through.
My husband went to Reception to complain to which he was told that we couldn’t have a different room, they were fully booked WTF don’t know how???
We immediately gathered our stuff together and checked straight back out, with no apology from the staff. We would rather of slept in the car than that flea pit of an hotel!!!
Worse hotel we have ever booked, don’t know how booking.com are advertising this as a 3 star 😳
My son and I were really pleased with our overnight stay here. Even though the decor upstairs wasn’t as nice as the decor downstairs, we had a fabulous overnight stay. We were upgraded to a balcony room and this was a fantastic addition to our booked sea view only.
The staff were friendly, polite and helpful despite being extremely busy. I had a wonderful sherbet lemon cocktail in the evening and a beautifully cooked breakfast. Parking was right outside the hotel, although it could easily have been full, I was relieve to get a space outside the hotel. It was also free.
Busy road but the sea view and sea sounds made up for that.
Note to owner....an upgrade to the decor upstairs please.
Stopped here for a bite to eat and expected to pay a bit more as we had a nice view but the food was disappointing. The squid was anaemic and halloumi over done. Don’t mind small portions if the food is delicious but this for £18 and the baguette was sub standard too. Such a shame
Stayed at Sandgate for one night and thank god it was one night, check in very good, staff very nice, got to room and my god it was aweful, not clean at all, had to move bedside cabinet to plug in and it had never been cleaned in months litter, dust all round, so cleaners NOT doing their jobs, rooms so basic, and dated bathroom old fashioned, shower aweful. Went to look at food prices for a snack, we were told dont bother far too pricey and not very good so we did'nt bother, we had a pint of real ale it was well over priced and it tasted like i cannot not put it in words.
Will we stop there again NEVER, maybe basic accommodation but it should NOT be in that state
