More like a guest house than a hotel.
Overall a pretty underwhelming experience.
Breakfast needs to be ordered in advance which is a pet hate. It was OK but not generous, 1 slice of bacon, well cooked but meagre.
We also had evening dinner, the menu was good and I thought since there were few choices it would be good. It was a huge disappointment which wasn't value for money by a long shot. The meal itself wasn't very good especially for the cost.
I'm also a bit funny about sauce bottles that are dirty.
I can't understand why everyone selling accommodation in the Highlands doesn't have their smart TVs Internet enabled.
This is my second stay and I was happy to return. The owners are friendly and welcoming.
My room was in a separate building but it was comfy and quiet. The bathroom was spacious and I learnt you needed to run the shower for a wee while to get the hot water running. However the water pressure was good.
There were options to eat in the hotel and opted for breakfast. It was cooked to order and was well presented.
The location is very central and you are close to the river and all the amenities of the town.
Very convenient to the ferry to Orkney
The room was fine, but the property could do with being redecorated, it was a bit tired.
Cooked breakfast was ok.
Overall very nice hotel. Beautiful inside and outside. The guy on the bar/reception a bit specific. Room clean and warm. Car park on the street but seams to be safe.
Wonderful dinner at the manor house, we arrived in Thurso early evening to discover all major restaurants were booked for the evening. Kindly, a local recommended the Manor House. Wow, our luck! Food and service were top class. As we were rushing to get back on the road we optioned for the curry and pasta specials and our only regret is that we don’t live close by because we would go there every chance we got, Very tasty ! Noticed with great envy that the fish and chips being served looked the best we had seen in our entire Scotland journey.
We enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff who were very happy to help with any enquiry.
The bar and restaurant was a great part of our choice to stay, and it was excellent.
Parking was easy and accessible. Never any issue with a close location.
Our room was on the ground floor as requested, which was greatly appreciated. Our bed was a large queen, with very firm mattress, but afforded a good nights’ sleep. Shower was good hot water a plenty.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much.
Food is excellent!
The restaurant downstairs was incredible and had a great range from pub classics to even lobster at a very reasonable price. Great family run accommodation and I had a great time there.
Unpretentious comfortable and clean family run hotel in Scotland’s most northern town. Warm welcome and a surprisingly delicious dinner: Chef Bishnu (from Nepal by way of Edinburgh and other places) can really cook!
We were in the accessible room on the front of the hotel, a handsome Victorian period detached house, which has a lovely plaster ceiling and was probably the original drawing room of the house. Plenty of room, a good comfortable Kingsize bed and a proper accessible wetroom. Access into the hotel is easy: no steps!
Dinner was from the Specials board: haggis “bon bons” hand made from good artisanal haggis, with a nice sauce, and really fresh haddock and hand cut skin on chips for my husband, in a light batter; not greasy! The haddock was landed at Scrabster, Thurso’s port. So less than 3 food miles from boat to plate. My chicken curry turned out to be a beautiful aromatic (cardamom, fenugreek ) but not spicy Nepalese “curry”: obviously made from scratch. Other options included venison with vegetables and a haggis burger: and the main menu featured local steak and other options. The curry could also be had as a vegetable version. Everything we ate was meticulously cooked to be just right,
Breakfast the following morning was a full Scottish if you wanted; again beautiful quality local ingredients cooked to order.
The following evening we ate in again: there was a large party for a 50th birthday in the back room so the hotel was noisy and very busy. But dinner was again meticulously prepared and cooked. We had scallops starter £8 gave us 3 locally fished scallops, one large and 2 slightly smaller; cooked to be just “done”. We followed with the seafood pasta which was outstanding: copious pieces of lobster, prawn, mussel and squid in a lovely light jus, on beautifully judged spaghetti, plus garlic bread. A sticky toffee pud followed; datey, walnutty and light with a well judged toffee sauce: but I was defeated!
I seriously recommend this place!
The staff are very helpful and the room was comfortable, clean and spacious.
Situated good. A few minutes walk from the town. Big room and big bathroom. Think the room is usually meant for older people or people with disabilities. The place does breakfasts and dinners.
They were very accommodating to our group of 6, very friendly, food was amazing!!! We loved our stay.
Good experience
A nice big room for 3 people
Great property, very well maintained, friendly & welcoming staff
Hotel has a breakfast included in our booking. Dinner can be purchased there as well. The room was bright and airy and bathroom clean. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were awful. Old and lumpy. The dining area and foyer looked a bit dirty and unkept though.
Staff and food was excellent. I think it would be helpful if they could get their wifi upgraded as very spotty which isn’t helpful when you are planning your next journey. Room was very cozy clean
Was very noisy with live band in the morning was first down for breakfast other people got theres first
went for a family dinner food was so good fish was cooked to perfection chips were nice and fluffy and everyone enjoyed their food, all in all great night had and lovely polite helpful staff
