Short stay leaving long and happy memories.
Pros:

Wonderful, characterful rooms throughout the hotel. Individual designs and many of the fittings carried out by the owners and family members. Superb cooked breakfast. Superb staff who gave their time and shared some history of the building and previous uses. Loved our time here.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the dining room was not open on the day we stayed, so check that when booking. We did know in advance and it was not a problem.

Great hotel, yummy breakfast!
Pros:

The breakfast was great, although the portion size for the vegan breakfast was small. Tea and coffee was great, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Amazing rooms and splendid gardens.

Cons:

The hot water turned off half way through my shower. We didn’t have hot running water from 10:30pm onwards. I had to wait until the morning to shower. I didn’t get to use the lovely bath in our room. Hopefully next time!

Lovely place shame about the food and drink not being available. But we will try again.
Cons:

Restaurant and bar are closed on a Sunday evening, it’s run by an outside contractor and not under the control of the hotel which was very disappointing, if we’d known we wouldn’t have booked for a Sunday night stay.

We will book again but not on a Sunday it’s something guests should be made aware of before booking

Perfect escape - suites are gorgeous
Pros:

Just perfect, nestled out of the way in lively grounds it was the perfect escape, there was such a cute little sweet station you could help yourself too and the room was gorgeous! One of those places where it’s actually even better than the picture. We are already planning our next trip.

Afternoon Tea
Pros:

My daughter and I booked afternoon tea. It was delicious. There was a lovely mix of hot and cold, sweet and savoury. The staff were very accommodating of our dietary requirements and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were very welcoming and I would have no hesitation in recommending.

Poor 5* experience
Pros:

We booked this hotel in July for a special Christmas treat after two recommendations
It was not cheap but we expected more for a 5 star hotel - very disappointed
It appeared very disjointed when asked to pay the remainder of the room seperately
The suite was very grand in appearance showing good quality furnishings but very cold, the kettle was still half full of water from the previous inhabitant, the tea bags were loose in a jar but not in a wrapper as expected. Also soap and shampoo dispencers in the bathroom and shower had very little left in them
Dinner and drinks were OK but the menu was nothing special but being run by a different management to the main hotel
Break fast was poor and did not come up to the standards of even a Premier Inn
This was served in the lounge because it didnt come under the restaurant management.
This hot break fast was prebooked from the night before along with a choice of 3 cereals , orange and apple juice, toast and tea or coffee No fruit, no yoghurt, no croissants, no danish pastries or buns - Extremely Poor
Nowhere near a 5* more like a Three star only and would not recommend for the price paid

Beautiful place. Patchy customer experience.
Pros:

I booked 2 nights in The HIGHFIELD House 8 months ago as a birthday treat for my partner, following a previous visit. The house and grounds are really lovely. The room (Mallard), beautiful, comfortable and very stylish. We had a dog with us and she was given a lovely big bed, dishes and treats. The tea, coffee and snack facilities were great. Breakfast was okay but not on a par with our previous experience. The main gripe we had this time was that we couldn’t use the bar while we were there. We had been told only a couple of weeks ago as an afterthought, that the restaurant wouldn’t be open to us, because an external company now runs it and it only opens on certain days that didn’t happen to be the days we were there. We weren’t hugely happy about that but decided we would find somewhere else to eat for the birthday meal. We didn’t realise that this also includes the bar as it wasn’t made explicit to us in the slightly offhand email that informed us they were sorry we had ‘chosen’ to stay on days the restaurant wasn’t open. As well as the restaurant being shut, the bar was shut to us too. So despite we were celebrating a birthday, we couldn’t even sit in the bar after we’d been out for a meal, and this felt unfair from a paying customer perspective, especially as during the first night we were there, the bar and hotel were full of staff enjoying their Christmas do. We had even agreed to check in a bit late so that they could enjoy their Christmas meal. We were given a list of alternatives for food and drink which all happened to be 12 miles away in Beverley. If we’d wanted to go that far we’d have stayed in Beverley, rather than Driffield. We were told that the hotels operating procedure had changed in summer and that we should have been informed at this point. Shame really, it did spoil the experience somewhat.
