Maxwell Inn, Taiping, Perak, Malaysia is a good budget hotel in Taiping, opposite to Taiping Hospital: Good location, close to Taiping Railway Station and Bus Station. The room was spacious with all the basic amenities: air conditioning (inside the room), good, stainless steel electric kettle for heating water, a set of cups & saucers, mineral water bottles, coffee-tea sachets, refrigerator, hair-drier (on request), iron and board (in the corridor), shower room with hot water, bath soap, shampoo & shower-gel, toilet with faucet, washbasin, desk with chair, table lamp, closets, hangers and TV.
There is no lift (receptionist will assist on request). There is a garden outside.

I was in Kuala Kangsar over the weekend (Friday 4/8 until Sunday 6/8) for the Malay College Kuala Kangsar Old Boys Weekend 2023. As I was late to register for the OBW, all the hotels and homestays in Kuala Kangsar have been grabbed by other old boys. I decided to stay in Taiping and check out the Maxwell Inn.

Maxwell inn is a 3-star hotel located opposite Taiping Hospital in Taiping. The hotel offers seven (7) non-smoking, air-conditioned rooms with attached bathroom. 2 rooms on the ground floor and 5 rooms on the first floor. The hotel offers room service for simple meals and drinks.

I arrived Maxwell Inn on Friday 4 August 2023 around 5.00pm. Registration was swift and smooth. I was given Room 4 which is a Deluxe Double Room (that could accommodate up to 2 Adults and a Child) for my two nights.

The room is spacious and very clean. It has a wardrobe and lots of cabinets. The room also comes with a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator and a kettle with cups and saucers and 2 complimentary bottles drinking water. The staff are warm and friendly.

There are a few restaurants (mostly Indian Muslim) of walking distance from Maxwell Inn.

I could describe my two nights stay in the hotel as peaceful and quiet.

I hope everyone reads this review, take into account the scam of the hotel staff. One of my family members was admitted in Hospital Taiping. Since this hotel is located in front of the hospital main gate, my family decided to take a room for our convenience since our house is 40km away from Taiping. I walked in at the hotel lobby and asked for the price of the room hoping that i can get a last minute discount or fair price for a last minute booking. An Indian girl at the counter then asked the other Indian guy in Tamil and told me the price of their Deluxe Room is at RM250/night. For someone who has been traveling a lot, you'll know this low-end hotel wont cost you that much for a deluxe room. I then checked the price in Agoda and the price for a deluxe room was only RM103. The staff knows very well that we're desperate to get a room near to the hospital and wont storm off somewhere because their hotel is the nearest to the hospital hence they try their luck to charge me at higher price.

Been here twice, stayed in rooms 6 & 7, huge bed, very spacious room & also bath, WiFi is ok, location in town center, easy access to shopping & eating places, free parking space in hotel compound. For me, that's perfect!
