Small private hotel with friendly host

The host was very friendly and helpful and the English breakfast was excellent - a good place to spend a night or two

Cons:

If you are expecting the Ritz, then it's not for you - the carpets and doors have seen better days, but it is clean and looks like it has been painted recently

Great choice for comfort and price
Pros:

I am so glad we chose to stay at Durham House.
From the moment we stepped in we were welcome and felt comfortable like at home. Stuart was a great host, from giving us directions to town centre to cooking us a delicious breakfast next morning. The beds were very comfortable and the cleaning was top notch. We travelled from London to attend Northumbria university open day and the hotel was perfect for the three of us with the family room having a en-suite bathroom.

Cons:

The pillows were not very comfortable.
The bathroom had no toiletries e.g shower gel despite the property details listing toiletries. Luckily there is a corner shop just round the corner where we could buy shower gel.
