We loved the location and also that we didn’t feel overwhelmed with pressure to purchase “tourist” stuff. It was a great place to walk around and wander around.
the one sad thing is - that with mobility challenges I would have loved to swim in the fjord - but with no railing in and out of the water - it was not possible.
We fell in love with this hotel’s seaside view, eclectic decor and community vibe. This hotel felt connected to Balestrand’s unique community in a way most hotels don’t. An easy walk from the ferry. Our room was basic but exceptionally clean, with comfortable beds, bedding, chairs, strong and stable WiFi, quirky local artwork, a balcony with two chairs plus table and an incredible view (upgrading to a sea view was worth every penny). Our bathroom was older looking but functional and very clean. The hotel provided body wash, packets of shampoo, hairdryer, earplugs (it’s an older building so rooms aren’t completely silent but we didn’t find it disruptive), two glasses, lots of shelving above the toilet, and a wardrobe. Bring conditioner, lotion, and an eye mask if you need to sleep in a dark room in summer months. No kettle, coffee maker (coffee is available in the lobby), or TV in room. Friendly and helpful hotel staff. There’s a private beach, sauna, parking, bar in the lobby, games, a pool table, indoor and outdoor seating, hammock, a small lending library by the hotel’s back door and a few kids toys, older but working elevator, and fresh croissants, coffee, jam, and butter in the morning. A partial voucher for breakfast at a neighboring hotel was offered at check in. We absolutely loved our stay here, it was a highlight of our Norway vacation, and we really want to go back to spend more time there. If you’re looking for a traditional generic hotel experience then this isn’t the hotel for you, but if you like a clean, comfortable, friendly, small-town hotel with a unique community vibe and incredible views then check this place out.
Nothing really. There wasn’t an option to book a time for the sauna at check in, the sauna website is only in Norwegian which makes booking tricker. No conditioner or washcloth, but those don’t seem to be commonly provided in Norwegian hotels overall. There’s no hotel or local souvenir merch available for sale in the lobby, something simple like postcards would be nice.
Veldig hyggelig betjening og god atmosfære
Ikke TV på rommet
Friendly staff. Beautiful view of fjord
Breakfast was just croissants
A practical, budget friendly motel - suited us a convenient night stop over motel on our from the Northern fjords south. hotel staff was friendly. super basic breakfast (a big croissant and surprisingly a good one). Good value for money
Great location and friendly staff
Not the fanciest hotel but a comfortable, relaxed hotel.
I wish that I had more time there. The view from our window was spectacular, fjord with mountain in the background. There was a sauna by the waters edge. We could go in the sauna and then take a dip in the sea, go back into the sauna repeat.
Balestrand itself was a wonderful town. A nice relaxed place to take a walk. I would be a repeat visitor if I lived closer. Staff members were very always helpful.
I don't mind a continental breakfast but just coffee and croissant is not enough. Greek yogurt and fruit salad in addition would have satisfied me.
