hmm...... I guess if you need a simple place to stay in the beautiful emmental region of Switzerland this is as good as it will get in the area. The food was good, the breakfast buffet was quite simple. Many of the newer rooms were theme rooms with very strange themes (See header) and other varieties, and unfortunately decorated for the theme. The View out the back was filled with a camping wagon other utility vehicles and this right in front of people's " Room with a View". And all this right next to the spa area. I guess it's okay to stay there and price quality ratio is okay but I wouldn't want to spend a long spa wellness weekend there as this is more for those who like to be in the Beautiful emmental nature instead and just need a place to sleep at night. Room was however clean and acceptable for a night's sleep.
In the spring of 2016 went for lunch with a friend in the Lueg. The atmosphere is beautiful.
After lunch, we ordered dessert and coffee. When the banana split arived, it smelled like garlic! The lovely waitress agreed and returned it to the kitchen. She then informed us it would be taken off the bill. The second time was dinner with a friend. We had asked for a cosy table when making the reservation 3 weeks before. We were placed in front of the door to entrance ( was nov. and chilly). We then asked to be moved which seemed to annoy service personal, even though only 3 tables were used in the gaststube the whole night. Meal was super in taste and presentation, but sadly my cordon bleu was soggy on the bottom and only warm. Service for the most is friendly. Was suprised that the personal was all german instead of swiss for such a deep in the heart of emmental restaurant.
We went home early as we could not face another night on the rock hard beds and empty pillows; we barely slept. The shower was really cramped like the bedroom and bathroom, which were like a motel. The massage appointment and first room booking were muddled up numerous times, which gave the impression that nobody knows what they are doing. Luckily, the massage was excellent when I finally got it, the staff were mostly friendly and they tried and the food was good and of generous portions. Found the constant clouds of smoke on the terrace really offputting when eating. There seems to be an intention to appeal to every possible kind of clientele, rather than concentrating on 1 sector and it felt overfilled. We also found it very remiss that after saying we wanted to leave a night early, we were not asked why!
The hotel and restaurant are a short 15 minute drive from the train station in Burgdorf. It is in the hills and in a very beautiful area! We did not stay at the hotel, we went up there for dinner at the hotel restaurant. It was one of the best meals we had in Burgdorf!
There were three of us dining and we all ordered the same dinners : a salad and a fresh fish dish that came with some potatoes and vegetables. The meal was beautiful, like a piece of art. Everything was delicious! The fish was cooked perfectly! Even the bread that came with the meal was excellent.
I would definitely like to return to their restaurant the next time we are in Burgdorf.
We stayed here two nights and enjoyed ourselves very much. They have a brand new wellness area which is very attractive and we spent several hours there on both days. We found the breakfast to be generous and delicious. Our room was in a recent functional building at the back. It had a "James Bond" theme, was clean and modern, but cramped. A double room should be larger. I noticed the previous comments about curtains. Perhaps those guests didn´t notice that there are roll blinds that you can close. In any case the room looks over woods and fields. There is an amphitheater attached to the hotel and we were afraid it would be noisy, but we barely heard what was going on. In fact we had total silence at night with the windows open. Another small complaint we had is that the wifi was weak. The staff was friendly and helpful however.
We stayed here for one night. The hotel was recommended to us... nothing I would have picked myself.
The check-in area is more a hall way and not occupied at all times. Our room was small and very dark. The windows were facing some courtyard and since the room was on ground floor, daylight barely made its way in.
The bathroom was clean but it didnt have a window and only an awful neon light above the sink. The soap in the shower was empty and the shower head wouldnt stay in place.
We had to sleep with the window open the whole night because our room was boiling hot. We were woke up by other guests who were walking by our window and shouting.
Breakfast and dinner both were good and service was well.
Overall though: the price value was very poor. I found nothing that justified the high price we paid.
We stayed here for one night in the same James Bond room as another reviewer. It's a bit of a trek to get there but in a nice peaceful location....clean, quiet and friendly. Breakfast was average but the coffee was superb. Definitely would go there again. No curtains in the room so don't stand about in your pants!
Travelling by car from Southern Switzerland to Germany we thought we would try a rural alpine inn in the German speaking part of the country. This was certainly an experience. It's 6 kilometers out of Burgdorf set by itself in the rolling hills amongst the cows, whose smells and bells were with us throughout our stay. Architecturally a combination of a motel and an alpine lodge it also boasts a large wooden shed used for conferences. It provides beer and snacks for walkers (of whom there seem to be quite a few in the Summer) and a bistro for meals. Although the main dining room was closed (no conference in session) this provided good hearty fare once we had navigated the very basic english of the waitstaff, who were well meaning and patient.
The rooms are reached via a walk along the terrace, which has good mountain views, or the short route, which involves walking through the staff smoking area. The real surprise was the room decor which was anything but 'rustic swiss' - based on film stars and movies. We had the James Bond room which was configured to minimise the available space to walk around and had no curtains!
Certainly the most unusual place we stayed at in our 5 weeks away and one of the more expensive. Not what we expected, but may suit those with a taste for the bizarre in a rural setting.
We had a business retreat at this place, and boy, was I surprised! It is a traditional Swiss Landgasthof, country style hotel, on top of a hill in the beautiful green Emmental region. Wonderful views, partly from the rooms, but definitely from the restaurant terrace.
All rooms are "theme" rooms, there is a wide choice, each room is unique and nicely decorated. Some rooms are in the old building, they are more charming, an old wooden building, but state of the art bathrooms, flat screen TV, minibar etc. Some rooms are in the new annex, they have nice views.
The hotel has a good restaurant, and a "country style" bar that is open in the evening only, a VERY unique place! The hotel can be recommended for business retreats, meetings, as well as for individual guests that are seeking a TYPICAL SWISS EXPERIENCE!
The location is near Burgdorf. There is public transport (bus) that stops in front of the hotel, the stop is called Lueg. By car it is approx. 20 minutes from the A1 highway Zürich-Berne, exit Lyssach/Burgdorf. If arriving by train, take train to Burgdorf and from there the bus.
