One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had in China.
Upon check-in we were told they could not find our reservation. We showed them our confirmation and what followed was a number of phone calls by the clerk with Booking.com customer service and (I think) their own management. All the time we felt they were trying to make it our problem instead of theirs.
Computer says no.
Booking first promised them to resend the confirmation, which I received by email but the hotel still didn’t. It clearly was a problem with the way the hotel’s system was hooked up to Booking. When they tried a third time I could already predict the result …
The hotel told us to cancel our booking but since we had a non-refundable booking we did not want to do that. However, as we were supposed to pay upon check-in, after 45 minutes I suggested they just give us a room for the price on the confirmation. After nearly an hour of frustration we were able to enter our room.
We did not like what we found there.
The windows were full of dirty stains. The bathroom had mold. The ventilator in the bathroom made as much noise as a farmer's tractor. The hotel clearly hadn’t heard of sustainability yet, with the towels and even paper cups being individually packaged in plastic.
The reception refused to give us two room keys. This created various problems. Because it acted as an electricity card but was also needed to activate the elevator, couples are forced to leave and come back at the same time. One person could not stay in the room, unless he/she would take the elevator down 11 floors to pick up the other one when they went out.
The only other option was to ask staff to activate the elevator when the other person was in the room. This clearly annoyed them, but suggestions they should give couples two cards eere met with: ‘We have more than 200 rooms, do you know what that would cost?
