Worse experience ever Royal Monica Hotel food posning no kettle no fridge old tellavion leaking water in restaurant roof

Location is amazing, close to the sea, and only cheap taxi to playa blanca. Great snorkeling on the private beach. The swimming at the pool is a decent size and plenty if beds, entertainment team work hard to get people involved in games throughout the day and all we're approachable and uplifting. The food generally was pretty good but lunch at the pool could have more variety but the option to go to the main restaurant is there. Experience with the staff was mixed, entertainment team were all excellent and there were a couple of decent waiters. We stayed all inclusive the beer was fine (Amstel) but only one option, the wine was cheap, Sangria was nice, cocktails low alcohol and cheap. This could be improved greatly and the bar stopping for all inclusive at 2300 could be later.

We arrived at Royal Monica quite late, at around 11pm. The hotel had kindly left some food available for us, which was much appreciated after travelling. It was a cold buffet with a limited selection, which was completely understandable at that time of night, but it was perfectly fine and a thoughtful touch.

The check-in process was quick and easy. Our room was exactly what I would expect from a three-star hotel. Like many hotel rooms abroad, it was a fairly simple rectangular room with beds and a bathroom. Was I expecting anything more luxurious? No. Was it clean? Yes. Did it comfortably do the job for our week away? Absolutely.

The rooms are cleaned five days a week, which was more than enough for us and helped keep everything tidy throughout the stay.

One area where the hotel could improve is by giving certain parts a little more TLC. A lick of paint here and there would make a noticeable difference, although this did not have any real impact on our holiday.

I would also like to see a fridge provided in the rooms. Even when staying all-inclusive, it is still nice to have a cold bottle of water or a couple of beers available in the room. I had read about the lack of a fridge before travelling, so I took a small portable mini fridge with me. It was light enough to travel with and held around six small cans, so it proved very useful throughout the week.

The following morning, we went down for breakfast and the selection was very good. To be completely honest, I have stayed in five-star hotels where the breakfast offering was much the same. There was plenty to choose from, including cooked breakfast items, cereals, pastries, yoghurt, pancakes, fruit and different breads.

The pancakes are available at breakfast and again from the pool bar during the afternoon, which brings me to one tongue-in-cheek criticism: the enormous bowl of Nutella does my waistline absolutely no favours. Nutella is my biggest weakness when it comes to food, so having a massive bowl of it available for me to help myself to for around four hours a day is definitely not good for me—no matter how delicious it is!

The pool area opens at 10am. There are plenty of sunbeds and the swimming pool is large. The pool bar also opens at 10am, with food available throughout most of the day. During the morning, there are breads, pastries and meats. At lunchtime, burgers, pizzas and chips are available, followed by pancakes and cakes later in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can visit the main restaurant at lunchtime for a much wider selection.

Overall, the food was better than at several other all-inclusive hotels I have stayed in. There was plenty of choice, food was available for most of the day and the quality was generally very good.

As a single parent travelling with my five-year-old daughter, I was really happy with the hotel. The kids’ club is open from 11am until 1pm and again from 3pm until 5pm. It was an absolute lifesaver. My daughter really enjoyed it, which gave me up to four hours each day to relax and enjoy some time by the pool.

This is a great hotel to visit with young children, mainly because the kids’ club is so good. It gives children something enjoyable to do while also allowing parents some proper time to relax.

All the staff were great throughout our stay, and they were especially good with the children. They were friendly, welcoming and always made an effort to speak to my daughter and make her feel comfortable.

The animation team also worked extremely hard throughout the day, providing plenty of activities for adults. These included aqua boxing, aqua dance, sangria making, dance lessons and several other activities.

Of the six nights when we were able to watch the evening entertainment, four nights were organised in-house and two featured outside acts. The in-house entertainment included things such as bingo, music quizzes and family games.

Personally, quizzes and similar games are not really my thing, but that is purely down to personal choice. We did enjoy the two outsourced shows, which featured an acrobatics act and a magic act. I generally prefer singers, dancers and visiting performers, so I would have liked to see a little more entertainment of that type.

However, I certainly would not let the evening entertainment stop me from booking the hotel again. A holiday is still much more about the people you are with and what you do during the other 90% of the day. The daytime facilities, kids’ club, pool, food and location more than made up for the entertainment not always being completely to my taste.

The all-inclusive drinks were absolutely fine. The lager tasted like lager and certainly did the job. It did not taste watered down, which is always a bonus. There was also a selection of basic cocktails, spirits, long drinks and soft drinks. Soft drinks were self-service, and there were also tea and coffee machines available.

Food was available from breakfast at 7:30am right through until around 9:30pm, so there was very little chance of going hungry.

There is also a shop on site which is open from 9am until 1pm and then again from 5pm until 9pm. It sells bottled water, food, other drinks, clothing, suncream, toys and other useful holiday essentials. Alternatively, there is a small basic supermarket around a 15-minute walk down the road.

The hotel also has a gym and spa, but I did not use either of them during our stay, so I cannot fairly comment on their quality or facilities.

One of the most impressive things about this hotel is the private beach areas. They are beautiful, peaceful spaces where you can sunbathe with more privacy while looking out over the sea. There is also direct access to the sea, which makes the area feel even more special.

The sea around the hotel is also very good for snorkelling, with plenty of fish to see beneath the water. Outside the hotel, you can explore the rocks looking for crabs, and there are also places where people can go fishing. These small activities are particularly enjoyable when travelling with children and provide something different to do away from the pool.

Playa Blanca is also easy and cheap to reach. The bus costs just €1.40, with the bus stop around a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Flamingo Beach costs the same amount to reach by bus, or you can walk there directly along the seafront from the hotel in around 20 to 25 minutes.

It is also worth mentioning that the hotel attracts guests from all over Europe, so do not arrive expecting everyone to be English. At the beginning of our stay, the hotel seemed to be dominated by French guests, with English, German, Italian and Polish guests also staying there, along with visitors from many other countries.

However, the mix changed noticeably as the week went on, with an obvious increase in both English and German guests arriving later in our stay. We stayed from Monday to Monday, and by Friday I was hearing English spoken more than any other language. The mix of nationalities may therefore depend heavily on the time of year, arrival days and the different school holiday dates across Europe.

Did this affect our holiday? Absolutely not. As you would expect in a tourist hotel, the staff all speak English, and English is still commonly used as the neutral language between guests and staff. We had no communication problems at all.

One significant negative, however, is for football and sports fans. If you visit while the football season is underway, you are unlikely to be able to watch the matches at the hotel. Luckily, I visited after the World Cup had finished and before the new football season started, so there was no sport that I particularly needed to watch anyway. However, this is worth knowing before booking if watching live football is an important part of your holiday.

Overall, I would happily recommend Royal Monica based on our stay. It is not a luxury five-star resort, but it does not claim to be. For a three-star all-inclusive hotel, it offers clean accommodation, good food, a large pool area, excellent facilities for children, friendly staff, useful on-site amenities, affordable transport links and beautiful sea views.

A little more maintenance, a fridge in the rooms and a wider range of evening entertainment would improve it further, but none of these issues would prevent me from staying here again.

The hotel aThe hotel and rooms were clean and tidy, and the staff was polite. The rooms were spacious and accommodated our family of four comfortably. The food was good, with a variety of options available for both us and the kids. However, the service could be slow at times, as we often had to wait for staff to bring out more food.

The hotel itself is in need of renovation, as it shows signs of aging, particularly the pool area. There was some daytime entertainment, but it was limited. The drinks were not very enjoyable; despite paying for an all-inclusive package, the cocktails were unappetizing, and the beer tasted watery.

During our stay, there was no kids' club available, and the evening entertainment was quite poor. As a result, we spent most of our days exploring outside the hotel and in Playa Blanca, as there wasn't much to do around the hotel itself. Overall, it wasn't the best place we've stayed at; we've experienced much better accommodations for a similar price.

I always write my reviews in the same manner. I always do my reviews half way through the holiday so I am still in the right frame of mind, and I always explain that our standards are not excessively high. We have been to Playa Blanca numerous times and know Lanzarote fairly well..
Royal Monica was classed as 3 star when we booked up. We always budget for a 3* -4* hotel and they are all very similar as regards rooms, entertainment and food. If one hotel is better in one aspect, you tend to find it will let itself down in others, so at the price we pay, we never expect perfection
Firstly, the room. We paid extra for a sea view which is definitely worth it. There are two levels of apartments on the sea front and the downstairs rooms hasve their own patio, which is less than a stones throw away from the sea. The location would be difficult to beat in that respect. Otherwise, the hotel itself is about a 45 minute walk along the seafront to the centre of the town, but we hired a car so we had the choice. There are closer shops and bars than this however.
Entertainment is available but limited. The 'Animation' team do games for kids and adults throughout the day, like boules, pool sports etc, and then bingo quizzes and disco on the night. There are two main pools and a smaller one for toddlers. Plenty of sunbeds are available including some on the hotels private beach (which is a small pebble beach)
The rooms themselves are fairly standard twin double. They were kept very clean throughout the stay and were cool from the heat outside. Some may think the decor is dated but I didn't think this. The mattress was too hard for my liking, but still able to sleep.
When people complain about these types of holiday, jt often involves food. The food is standard for your 3 or 4 style hotel. They have to cater for many nationalities, so it is a simple affair. A pork orr chicken dish most night.s Also, chips, rice or potatosj and warm vegetables. Always a plentiful variety of fruit and salads along with deserts.
The all inclusive here is a positive. Normally, drinks are limited in one way or another. But here, you can have cocktails which is not usual. Often the beer and wine along with soft drinks is self service, along with tea and coffee.
All staff we have met are friendly and eager to please,. The dining room staff work tirelessly to make sure there are always tables clean, and you can see the chefs prepare food. The animation team are proactive in getting people involved and the cleaners do a great job.
I would not describe this as a negative as such, but some of the complex is in need of modernising. There are people working on this and from what we noticed it is mainly cosmetic and not a big deal.
Again, not a negative, but a lot of the patrons are French. We always book with love holidays, and whilst they are by far the cheapest, we never end up in an English hotel. We prefer this. We find all nationalities to be polite my in general, and there are enough English families to socialise if you choose.
Finally, be aware that if you come in July, it is Lanzarote s windiest month. In previous hotels, this has rocked hazardous as we have come close to being impaled by sun umbrellas. But here, they are solid wood umbrellas so it is a lot safer.

For my first solo trip I definitely picked the right location. Beach literally on the doorstep with the most stunning views. Hotel however was very hit or miss, food seemed to be very repetitive but loved the pizza in the pool bar. But if you like fish plenty on offer, the two nights I got chicken it’s wasn’t cooked. Bar staff so friendly and accommodating. By far best thing of the week was Aqua Dance with Pedro it was so funny and a great experience. Day time experience otherwise was lacking no music by the pool during the day unless aqua dance was on.

Rooms were clean ,food ok ,fish had lots of bones in it apart from the fresh tuna which was nice as was the tinned tuna ,meat on offer was pork ,pork loin ,hog roast ,pork chops ,pork steaks ,beef stew ,on my arrival travelling solo ,I sat for evening meal ,around half eight ISH ,they served meals until 9 30 in the evenings I made the mistake of sitting at a table for five ,the restaurant assistant was rather rude ,telling me they had to clear up as they had to prep for breakfast ,after that I made sure I sat at a table for two ,so one evening same restaurant assistant came up to me ,pulled the chair up opposite as I was sitting down and said table for two I said no just me ,having lost my husband earlier this year to cancer ,I thought he was out of order the little sod ,all entertainment was aimed at the french ,plus the Germans well that's another story ,I found it too far out of center of playa blanca ,4 mile walk in same back ,not ideal in the heat ,plus an insect the size of a mouse running round my room on first night due to me opening the patio doors slightly to let some air in as Aircon didn't work and ceiling fan didn't work but if it had it would have been far to noisy ,as I could hear next doors ceiling fan ,would I stay here again not on your nelly

La comodidad de las camas, la comida del buffet y el servicio de los empleados. La comida exquisita, casera, variada, los postres, todo genial solo pondría más fruta en la mañana y no en la noche . Los empleados son estupendos, nombrar a Dan, Mohamed, Rahid, Massimo, Renato, Daniel ...los chicos del bar todos alegres,atentos ...el monitor Pedro es un crack nos lo ha hecho pasar genial. Hay una tienda en el hotel para apaños y si no hay cerca a nada un HiperDino. El paseo marítimo a pie para un largo paseo, cerca de varias playas hermosas andando o en coche . Hemos pasado unas vacaciones estupendas e inolvidables .

We stayed at this hotel in July and, while there were some positives, our experience was ultimately overshadowed by a very serious safety concern and the hotel’s disappointing response to it. The views are beautiful, the pool area is lovely, and some of the bar staff and reception staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, these positives do not outweigh the issues we experienced during our stay. The most concerning part of our holiday was when my mum and I were followed back to our room by a man. We were staying in one of the beach-view rooms, which are located beside a public walkway where anyone can walk past. The man followed us and then attempted to get into our room, damaging the door in the process. It was only when I screamed that he ran away. What made the situation even more alarming was that he later returned and appeared to be watching our room. He stood outside staring towards our room and only left when he saw that my mum’s fiancé’s sons had returned. As two women, this was an incredibly frightening experience and made us feel extremely unsafe. We reported the incident immediately by phone and in person at reception. Unfortunately, the response from the hotel was shocking. Rather than showing concern and taking the matter seriously, staff appeared dismissive. I was even told to “calm down”, despite being an 18-year-old woman who’s it’s her first time abroad who had just experienced a man attempting to enter our room. We were left feeling unsupported, unsafe, and as though our concerns were not being taken seriously. A situation involving a guest’s safety should never be handled this way. This raises serious concerns about guest security, particularly for women travelling alone, young female travellers, and families with children. A man attempting to gain access to a guest room and then returning to watch the occupants should have been treated with far greater urgency. There were also several other issues throughout our stay. Some of the food was regularly served cold, and while there was a reasonable selection available, the menus rarely changed. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner often felt like the same food being served repeatedly every day. After a few days it became very repetitive and quite sickening, especially for guests staying for longer periods. There was also no bath plug provided in our room, meaning the bath could not be used properly, which seems like a very basic requirement for a hotel room. The hotel is also not disability-friendly at all. Many of the pathways are uneven, bumpy, cracked, and unstable, making them difficult to navigate safely. In addition, the shower/bath was very high to step into, which could be challenging and potentially unsafe for elderly guests, people with mobility issues, or anyone requiring accessibility support. To make matters worse, we paid €50 to hire a wheelchair for five days, only to find that one of the tyres was flat and the wheelchair was uncomfortable to use. Because of this, it was barely used, making it a complete waste of money. Given the condition of the pathways around the hotel and our experience with the wheelchair, I would strongly recommend that anyone with mobility issues hire a mobility scooter instead if possible, as it would likely be much safer, more comfortable, and easier to get around the resort. What made this even more frustrating was that my mum’s fiancé, who relies on a mobility scooter, was told by one receptionist that he was not allowed to use the lift with it to get down to the restaurant. We found this completely ridiculous and extremely insensitive given that mobility aids are essential for many guests. Preventing or discouraging someone from using a lift to access facilities because they are using a mobility scooter is not what you would expect from a hotel that claims to accommodate all guests. Another issue was the lack of privacy around some of the beach-view rooms. Because they are situated beside public walkways, people can easily walk past and look directly towards the rooms, which became particularly concerning after the incident we experienced. It’s a shame because the hotel has beautiful surroundings and some genuinely lovely staff members. However, guest safety, accessibility, and guest welfare should always be the highest priorities. The frightening experience we had, combined with the dismissive response afterwards and the accessibility issues we encountered, completely overshadowed the positive aspects of our holiday. Another thing we noticed throughout our stay was that, as English and Irish guests, we often felt uncomfortable due to the behaviour of some other hotel guests. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, we experienced constant staring, dirty looks, and what felt like unfriendly attitudes from certain guests. Whether we were simply walking through the hotel, sitting by the pool, eating in the restaurant, or having a conversation amongst ourselves, we frequently noticed people staring at us for extended periods of time. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere and made us feel unwelcome during parts of our holiday. While we understand that the behaviour of other guests is not directly controlled by the hotel, it unfortunately added to the negative experience we had and contributed to us not feeling particularly comfortable or relaxed during our stay. I would strongly advise other guests, particularly women travelling alone, families with children, and those with mobility difficulties, to carefully consider these issues before booking. Personally my experience at this hotel has turned me off from going abroad for awhile.

I went to this hotel with a friend and her 10 year daughter and another friend .
The location is perfect . The sea just in front of the hotel and a 45 minute walk into the town . We had a sea facing room which was perfect . The rooms are lovely - a huge lounge with sofa bed / tv / table and chairs and balcony . Large bedroom with wardrobe and decent size bathroom with a good shower . Hairdryer provided . Rooms cleaned everyday except Wednesday and Sunday and towels change when ever you like .
The all inclusive drinks choice is huge . You name it they have it .
The pool bar is open all day / in the evening has entertainment . Nothing too much as the World Cup was on but usually
a tiny kid disco then we had one night a magician , another dancers and bingo . We took a few card games
The entertainment team are amazing especially Pedro and Amos
During the day we did Aqua Dance and there’s also table tennis contests / darts / paddle board and numerous other events .
We really enjoyed all the meals / served buffet style and a huge choice . The restaurant staff were lovely too.
If you want a quiet chilled location this location is perfect . I could lay on my sun lounger by the pool and also see the sea .
If your looking for more bars / eating places go nearer town
We would definitely go back to this hotel
People might say this hotel is tired and first impressions when you pull up it is but they are doing a lot of work to the exterior - painting and replacing outdoor lights etc
And in another year the exterior I’m sure will be perfect

Very good value for money and staff are nice and friendly, would definitely recommend it for a weeks get away, right on the sea front and hosting some stunning views, foods great and offers a wide range for vegetarian and vegan options.

Lovely room, amazing staff and lovely food!

Location is in a beautiful setting. A bit further away from the main town of Playa Blanca and a bit of a walk to access the sea. Lovely atmosphere albeit relatively quiet. Rooms are exactly as required, comfortable beds, good shower/bathroom and kept clean. Food was basic but accommodating. Entertainment was minimal however the World Cup was being shown which will have changed the timetable slightly. The entertainment team and the staff were exceptional with great energy and enthusiasm.

I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was excellent.
A special thank you to Pedro from Animation team. He was always energetic, welcoming, and made every activity fun and engaging. His positive attitude and enthusiasm really helped make the holiday more enjoyable and memorable.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to come back again in the future! Hopefully cya soon Lewandowski 😉

Fantastic entertainment… Pedro has made us feel so welcome and calls me his brother lol loved the nice relaxing atmosphere and the activities they have provided

We arrived yesterday 15 of June and checked out today on 16 of June was supposed to be a 7 day holiday do not waste your time or money this place is a 1star at best do not believe what you see in photos a complete con I do not believe anyone from love holiday either visited let alone stayed there or they wouldn’t be advertising it on their site now we’ve had to pay to stay in another hotel as there was no point in complaining the place is a complete dump even when we were getting shuttle from airport and told driver where we were staying he started laughing that should have told us something plus trying to contact love holiday to complain they don’t have email address but are quick to take your money every month hopefully they will see this and reach out to us
