A very comfortable and civilised overnight stay, with very tasty dinners and breakfasts. We’d be very happy to book anot
Pros:

Good location for the Tank Musuem, and plenty of free parking. We were lucky enough to be staying on a ‘Friday Steak Night’, which provided a beautifully cooked 8oz fillet with tasty buttery mash. Staff were all very good and our twin room was very comfortable.

Cons:

Our bedroom window opened on to the main road (the clue is in the address!), but wasn’t too noisy after 11pm and a couple of pints of very tasty Butcombe Original amber ale.

A Hidden Gem by Durdle Door – Exceptional Stay at The Black Dog Inn
Pros:

We had the pleasure of staying at The Black Dog Inn for one night on 19th March 2026, and what a fantastic experience it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. The team kindly helped us gain early access to our room, which immediately set the tone for a warm and accommodating stay.

The manager and staff were genuinely attentive and welcoming throughout, striking that perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. Nothing felt like too much trouble, and their effort to make our stay comfortable did not go unnoticed.

The food deserves special praise. Dinner was absolutely delicious, clearly prepared with care and quality ingredients. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive – hearty, fresh, and exactly what you’d hope for before a day exploring the stunning nearby coastline.

Overall, The Black Dog Inn offers not just a place to stay, but a genuinely enjoyable experience. Thoughtful service, excellent food, and a cosy atmosphere make it somewhere we’d happily return to without hesitation. Highly recommended.

Cons:

Nothing.

Fantastic stay and staff were very accommodating! Nothing was too much trouble.
Pros:

The staff were all fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. We had food in the evening and also breakfast. Breakfast was delicious and great choice! Lots of options for the evening menu. Plenty of tea and coffee in the rooms. Overall, a very pleasant stay indeed. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Thank you for a great stay.

Cons:

The room was very hot - we didn't notice the thermostat until the morning - Doh! However, the room was equipped with a fan.
Food menu was provided in the room, but it wasn't an up to date menu - nonetheless, there was still lots of other great choices! I appreciate the menu does change, but would have been nice to have a more recent menu.

Good all round.
Pros:

Breakfast excellent and other food superb. Room very clean and warm, beds comfy. Good and comfortable community pub with lots of locals and community atmosphere. Lots of parking. Waiting staff in restaurant very helpful and friendly. Location excellent for easy access to places such as Lulworth, Durdle Door etc. No children with us but there was a very good and secure playground area. Also very dog friendly.

Cons:

Issue with no wifi in room - reported twice to on duty staff but not resolved until 3rd night. Better staff communication was needed.

Mostly OK but cold and noisy room and no breakfast when you need to leave early
Pros:

Great restaurant food and excellent beer, most of the staff were very pleasant and engaging.

Cons:

Room was basic but clean and tidy; unfortunately it was very noisy from the road and cold (no heating available).
Early breakfast seems to be a challenge; on my first morning I knew that I needed to be out before breakfast started and I was provided with a packed lunch in lieu which was fine. On the evening of day 1 the bearded guy behind the bar, the exception to my comment above about the staff, asked if I was having breakfast the next day. When I said yes he suggested 8:30. As I needed to leave for work by 7:30 I asked what time was the earliest, he told me 7:00 to 7:15 so I opted for 7:15 as this would be tight but he made me feel like I was being unreasonable to even ask.
In the morning I got down at about 07:05 to find the very pleasant breakfast hostess who told me the chef wouldn’t even arrive until 7:15 so I went without again as there simply wasn’t time to wait for the chef to get the kitchen ready, cook my food and for me to eat. I asked for breakfast at 7:15 and expected the kitchen to be ready to at least take my order and start cooking it at that time, not once everything had been warmed up.
