We arrived early so were shown round the hotel by Andy who was brilliant with welcoming drink in hand and it was no trouble to leave our bags so after 3pm they would be in our room which was across the car park near the spa which wasn't ideal as there wasn't any connecting walkway through to breakfast room / main hotel. If weather was better this may not have been such an issue.
Room had a small lounge with TV , plenty of tea/ coffee which together with the Elemis branded toiletries were replenished daily when the room was cleaned around 15.30 each day. Bathroom was tiny and bedroom has adequate storage for a short stay. We were supplied with bathrobes - these are not complimentary but slippers were. Both were handy to wear to walk to the spa which was common practice with most guests. No booking needed whilst we were there and the place was never that crowded . Spa very dark but comfortably warm . Watch the steps getting into jacuzzi as several were stumbling in and out as push button for the tub near the sauna was on the wall not by the side of the tub so in and out every 5 mins. We didn't have any issues with the dim lighting but could have done with better lighting near all steps.
Food - Breakfast superb - choice and just left to help yourselves.
Muzumi Restaurant . Decor was beautiful but food lets it down . Vague guidance on what to order but as a couple we ordered 2 large mains and 3 sides to share and this was more than enough. Same one bowl was used for all food and lack of serving spoons . Thai fish dish and chicken dish with dark thigh meat seemed to have almost identical sauce . Sweet potato side was overcooked as was the rice which didn't have any coconut taste.Stir fried side veg dish was generous but again coated in a generic tasting sauce . Reasonably priced though and service was good although there was a struggle to find the booking . We chose not to have wine as we overheard another guest was discussing the quality of the bottle they had ordered. Very salty aftertaste of food the next morning .Both agreed an OD of soy sauce as a base.
Location - 5 min walk to lake /shops but hotel is on a hill so some guests could see this as an issue. Train station is a good 10 min drive . Order taxi early as there was severe shortage of them the morning we departed but receptionist was so helpful and phoned around for us so we didn't miss our train but taxi driver was over run with bookings - not helped by lots of temp traffic lights on journey.
Signage puts 5 stars by the logo but no clarity as to who had awarded such .
Average prices for the stay with reasonable bar tariff. We didn't have any bar food as so many good places to try nearby.
Staff were very presentable and they certainly enhance your stay .We paid for a basic room which for us gave good value as some guests seem to comment on rooms being expensive. We didn't feel the need to be charged extra for a hot tub as spa has 2 which we tried. Great views of lake from generous comfortable non smoking outside bar terrace.
